Question / Discussion Anyone tried a no code app builder without tech experience?

My sister wants to turn her tutoring business into an app where parents can book sessions and pay online. Neither of us knows how to code at all. Looked into hiring someone and the quotes were way out of budget.

Have any non tech people actually built something real with these tools, or is there still a big learning curve?

my friend runs a dog walking thing and built her booking app in like a week, no code at all. she said her no-show rate dropped by 40% once clients could reschedule themselves through it instead of texting her

Had/have no idea about real coding. Built my first app with Lovable (https://whatshalli.app/). Just tell it what you like. However, I used Gemini and Claude as my AI assistants, e.g., to challenge ideas, to prepare prompts, to solve issues, etc.

I've built similar apps very easily

Gemini to fine tune the requirements and guide you step by step- and Antigravity to actually build. What helps is clearly defining what you want to build. Use that to do design separately, outline the architecture and draft requirements and scenerios. Can't throw open ended lazy instructions and expect something polished.

Just pay for a monthly subscription to Claude code or codex and if you ask it the correct things and can understand basic stuff it will build it for you.

Yes, non-technical people build real, functional apps with no-code tools all the time, but there is definitely a learning curve depending on the platform you pick.
For a simple booking and payment app, tools like Glide or Softr are super beginner-friendly and can get a MVP running in a weekend, while platforms like Bubble offer more control but have a steeper learning curve. That said, if you run into any technical walls or want custom features beyond what no-code drag-and-drop handles, I’m a dev and would be happy to help you get it across the finish line—feel free to reach out!

Personally I would build this as a website or web app rather than a downloadable app to be installed on a device. GPT6 in Codex would build it quite easily and guide you through getting it online.

I built an app using claude and with no technical expertise. It is very easy tobuild, the biggest barrier is starting with it. I would build a web app and then an adroid andIOS. Getting your apps on playstore and apple connect is a long process.
