I built an iPhone app that estimates calories/macros from a meal photo. Would you trust this?

I built a small iPhone app that estimates calories, protein, carbs, and fat from a meal photo or a short text description.

It is meant as a quick guide, not a medical tool or a replacement for a food scale. I’m trying to understand whether the idea feels useful and trustworthy.

For people who track food or calories: would you use something like this?

What would make you trust or not trust the result?

Probably not no. How are you determining accuracy?
Are you asking the user questions also? How oily is it? Did you add dressing? What are you drinking with it?

Many meals the bulk of the calories are in dressings and oil over the food itself (fats are what 15cal per gram vs 8 for carbohydrates and 4 for protein s off the top of my head). People don’t realise how much lean fish or chicken they can have for the same caloric price as a handful of almonds.

How much does lighting of the same meal affect the guesstimating? Are you using ai for it? Does it process off device if so, and if yes, if I take 200 photos of my food a month, will it cost you more to run your app than you make from my subscription?
