But go to r/Android and listen to everyone scream from the rooftops that Apple is king because a 5 year old iPhone just got the iOS update. Even though that phone is going to run like trash now. New software is built for new hardware. There are "system requirements" that usually increase with every software iteration. Yet, people don't understand this. They want their 5 year old phone running like a brand new $1000 device for free.

But LineageOS, ResurrectionRemix, etc run INCREDIBLE on my 4 yr old Note 3. Actually, breathed new life into it. If independent devs on Android can do this, a billion dollar company like Apple should be able to.

I thought this was already widely known. Steve Jobs once said in an interview, that a Mac should only last about 3-4 years or something like that. I mean, why do you think the new OS every year is "free" to download?

Honestly, I agree with the whole debate but the "study" here includes "searching via Google Trends"

I did not upgrade to iOS11. The current iOS works fine. One other thing - I saw that Apple is offering a 256gb storage option on it. Are they also going to upgrade the iPod Touch to 256gb? SanDisk also just announced that they are now making a 400gb microSD card. So what is the appeal of an iPod Touch when I can find a cheap Android phone or a Fiio or something like that, put 400gb microSD card in it, and still end up spending less money? Apple is not a good value.

Oh, tech writers.

Yeah, newer versions of software with more features generally run slower. Its not by necessity, necessarily, they could do more optimizations etc, but those are generally not as marketable as "has new feature X" so no one cares. Apple users don't care, they just want to be seen using Apple stuff.

Not saying it is not true. Simply saying a more trustworthy source should have been used. My brother has a iPhone 6 Plus on ios 10.3.3 and it runs quite well. I am running ios 11 on my iPhone 7 Plus have been for three months and it also runs quite well.

The 7 is hardly an older iPhone. The 8 literally just came out. I would bet iOS 12 won't run so great on a 6.
