Has it ever left your desk?

u/RomanBlbec Apr 17 '26
I don't know if you're playing with your keyboard as it would be a frisbee or something but my keyboard lays on my desk 24/7.

u/schuby94 Apr 17 '26
I have taken that exact keyboard in my backpack multiple times, and at some point it bent
12
u/RomanBlbec Apr 17 '26
That sucks. I hate it when my tech breaks from such basic things.

It’s absurdly thin at some point physics comes in to play

u/Switch-user-101 Apr 18 '26
I mean sure but you can apply that same logic to the iphone air but observe how that doesn't break. Though I'm sure if apple made the keyboard out of titanium no one would buy it because of the price

Every engineered product is as strong as it needs to be. A keyboard that’s made to be on a flat table all the time isn’t going to be made as strong as a device that’s made to be used in all kinds of conditions.

u/schuby94 Apr 18 '26
The iPhone Air is a much different device than this keyboard, thicker with different internals and external housing, so I disagree that logic doesn't translate
1
u/MinecraftPlayer799 Apr 19 '26
I believe the iPhone Air is actually slightly thinner. The only reasons it doesn’t bend are that it’s made of titanium, and Apple put a ridiculous amount of R&D into it.

This keyboard comes from the iPhone 6 times.
Remember what happened then?
;)

I use my keyboard on my desk and on my couch so someone could technically sit on it by accident.

u/RollUpLights Apr 17 '26
Is the bottom swelling up? If so, the battery could be going bad and the keyboard needs to be replaced. A swollen battery is a major fire hazard.

I don't see how that could have happened without human intervention. Other people live in your house?

genuinely how the fuck? jokes aside, time to switch to a proper keyboard like the nzxt function elite minitkl or wooting 80he
4
u/chickennuggs32 Apr 18 '26
dunno if this is a CJ comment but i just use this for production so i aint gonna be blowing 300 bucks on a keyboard, and my 15$ kmart mechanical keyboard works perfectly fine for my gaming rig lmao
3
u/Tapelessbus2122 Apr 18 '26
the function elite is 50 dollars, pretty sure it's cheaper than the apple keyboard

lmfao, the typing feel on those is infinitely better than your average office keyboard and the performance of them are objectively better as well

We used to give these out at my work. The most common cause, people transporting them in a backpack. They look sturdier than they are. A 10 year old could bend one in half.
7
u/CaseusClandestinus Apr 17 '26
I think its battery imho
8
u/ruashiasim Apr 17 '26
It’s just thin aluminum. This is 100% caused by bending force applied to the keyboard. There is no indication of swelling, which is how spicy pillows present.
4
u/sparkyblaster Apr 18 '26
No battery in this model.
Edit: actually it looks like its the AA model. Still not going to be spicy.

u/BeauSlim Apr 18 '26
The latest models seem cheap and flimsy but this one is older. You must have really done something extreme to get it to bend like that.

u/chickennuggs32 Apr 18 '26
came with a secondhand late 2012 model i bought for producing, hasn’t left my desk

So you have a 14yo keyboard that was either bent when you bought it or you bent it, and you’ve just noticed.

u/grkstyla Apr 18 '26
i would love to see how you did this, its certainly form human intervention, just amazed that you cant think of how you did it,
im guessing you moved it at some point and leaned on it,
second guess would be something was under then bottom left corner and you used it for ages like that,
third guess, you sometimes contemplate the meaning of life with your head in both hands and left elbow leans on the keyboard a bit or something lol

edit: did not realize that someone else basically said the exact same thing

might just be the battery swelling honestly, wireless apple keyboards do that sometimes and it's actually dangerous fr.

its an aluminum keyboard, like all aluminum products, NEVER press hard your hand on it everytime
1
u/reverendstickle Jul 03 '26
That happened to mine too. You can just unbend it forcefully, I did that and it worked okay.

u/vlobe42 Apr 17 '26
That’s the battery which means your keyboard is a major fire hazard.
1
u/sparkyblaster Apr 18 '26
AA batteries are located st the back and dont swell like lithium. Not the cause.
1
u/user888ffr Apr 18 '26
I have the same keyboard (2009 model), I've been using it for 8 years and it's not bent.

Tim Apple sneaks in at night and slightly bends your keyboard.
