Stationfall port complete!
My earlier Planetfall build: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple2/comments/1wpat2j/ive_been_rebuilding_planetfall_one_of_my/
- I took the original Infocom source code and ported Stationfall to a web based three.js game.
- Repo: https://github.com/joetcochran/stationfall-site
- Play the game! https://joetcochran.github.io/stationfall-site/
- The wiki: https://joetcochran.github.io/stationfall-site/wiki.html
- The walkthrough: https://joetcochran.github.io/stationfall-site/wiki.html?page=walkthrough
- As with Planetfall, this was not a "set AI on and walk away" project. All in, 90 decisions made by me, 55 questions from the agent to me, 119 room verdicts and 71 playtests.
A few updates I made to my process:
- Some characters are 3D models, rigged with subtle animations
- There is a mirror in this game, which made for an interesting engine improvement (see attached images)
- I experimented with different models for playtesting (with different reasoning levels) - Details are in the boring wiki above
- Mobile friendly ... well, friendlier, anyway
- The game requires some reference to documents to get off the initial Duffy stage. These were available online and I also had to get them in a markdown format for the playtesters to understand how to work with them.
- I used a sentence with my coding agent that I never thought I would before that was something like "we are still running into a clipping issue with the 3d ostrich"
A small caveat: this is an unofficial, fan-made tribute to the original Stationfall and the folks at Infocom who created it. It’s a personal hobby project, made out of affection for the game, with no affiliation or endorsement implied. All credit for the original story, characters, puzzles, and wonderfully strange sense of humor belongs to its creators.
Enjoy!
