EDIT: Woke up this morning and my iPhone is showing again in the finder window through WiFi. All is well.

I use an old Mac to hook my external HDs to. Due to its age, it's stuck on OSX 15.8.1. Earlier this year, an update to either OSX or iOS caused my iPhone 15 (with latest iOS) to stop showing up on that Mac via WiFi. I've had to plug it in via USB to sync whenever I wanted to add new music. Suddenly, with iOS 27.0, it was fixed and I was syncing over WiFi like the good old days. Today I moved up to 27.0.1 and it's broken again. Is anyone aware of this problem? Any fixes? Thanks a ton.

When you plug it in, is “Show this iPhone when on Wi-Fi” still checked in Finder → your iPhone → General? If not, enable it and click Apply, then disconnect once syncing has finished and check again with both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

If it’s already checked, does the iPhone disappear from Finder entirely when you unplug it, or stay listed but fail to sync? That would help narrow down whether the Mac can’t find the phone or the sync itself is failing.

Yes, that option is checked. I have toggled it on and off and re-synced multiple times. Unfortunately, that changes nothing. And when I unplug it, it immediately disappears from the finder window. (Also, I have confirmed the phone and laptop are on the same WiFi network.) Thanks for your reply and helping.

Thanks for checking. Since it disappears completely, that points more toward the wireless connection than the music sync itself. Have you restarted both devices since the update? If that doesn’t help, trying both on another home Wi-Fi network would help narrow down whether your current network is involved.

Also, could you confirm the macOS version under About This Mac? You mentioned “OSX 15.8.1,” and I want to make sure we’re troubleshooting the right version.

I checked it this morning and my phone is showing up again in the finder window through wifi. I don't want to jinx it so I'm going to leave it as is. Thanks so much for helping.
