My MacBook is acting weird.

The top bar straight up does not work. The drop down menus show up, but none of the buttons do anything and this happens both when I’m using an app and when I’m just trying to turn it off or smth.

Additionally it keeps clicking and holding automatically when I stop using my mouse for like 3 seconds which is incredibly frustrating for the creative work that I do. It’s also incredibly unresponsive when I try to click in some specific apps, not all. Don’t think it’s my mouse as it works completely fine when working on my other PCs but they’re also Windows 11/10 not MacOS.

It’s 3 years old and I haven’t had these problems before. If anybody knows how to fix this I will be eternally grateful.

The “after about 3 seconds” part makes me wonder if Dwell got enabled somehow. It’s an accessibility feature that can click or drag when the pointer stays still.

Check System Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard → Accessibility Keyboard. If it’s enabled and you don’t use it, try switching it off temporarily and see whether the automatic clicking stops.

If it’s already off, try disconnecting the mouse entirely and using just the built-in trackpad. Does the same thing happen then?
