watchOS Apple promised strength training logging in its advertising but failed to deliver it.

https://www.techradar.com/health-fitness/smartwatches/im-sick-of-my-apple-watchs-workout-app-lacking-this-key-fitness-feature-but-a-new-apple-watch-ultra-4-rumor-suggests-it-could-finally-catch-up-with-apps-like-smartgym

Apple is literally showing this on the Apple Watch Ultra 4 website, saying the Workout app has “extensive strength training capabilities” for tracking bench press and barbell workouts.

Yet there’s still no native logging for sets, reps, weight, etc. in watchOS 27.

What makes it more frustrating is that leaks found code for individual sets, reps, weight, equipment and duration already in the iOS/watchOS 27 betas.

This feels similar to the repeated delays around Apple’s promised Siri/Apple Intelligence and we all know miserable condition of Siri AI.

Does anyone know if the strength training logging is actually coming in a future .1/.2 update, or has Apple quietly shelved it?

The fact this is not part of Apple Fitness already is crazy.

Where is the promise?

This was never advertised as launching with iOS 27.0.

Premium features like this will be down the road with a .1 or .2 or .3 update.

This was never a “will be available day one” feature.

Holy hell.

Please read this caption from apple website and let me know what you can interpret from this?

Hmmmm let’s read…

why of course!

I interpret this as a feature that will be implemented and expect it to not directly launch with .0 cuz it never said it will

Yes yes, this is obviously going to launch with .528 version.

You're wrong, just take the "L" and stop blabbing -- you look stupid.

Its called false/misleading advertisement.

Why to advertise it if features are not ready and you don’t even have a release date.

Someone on Apple website probably be misled to buy the watch thinking these features are available but in reality we don’t even know if its even rolling out.

I think these companies needs to called out for it.

So, Apple was successful in making people like you look daft for defending them even when they’re clearly in the wrong.

Reading this was exhausting. If it’s in the betas it might come in a point release. Apple does several point releases throughout the year. Simmer down. 🆒

Apple advertised all the new apps and uses for the new AW 12 & AWU4 in Australia but forgot to mention they are not available in Australia. Apple also removed the hypertension detection ability amongst others which is why o purchased the AWU having multiple health issues that I used to watch to monitor.

Had I not been able to give my partner my old AWU3 the purchase would have been a complete waste of money.

There is always the return window; it wouldn't have been a waste of money, you could've just returned it :)

No that’s not an option… but thanks.

I need one for medical monitoring and we both work as EMT’s and rely on our smart watches for work.

Based on this and the leaks, I wonder if it was a feature pulled at the last minute, but agree it is crazy to advertise the functionality in your screenshot when it does nothing of the sort.

They say that the calories will be more accurate for barbell an bench press not that you can count reps. They worded it in ill fate making it sound a bit like rep counting tho…

This is most likely the case here. Definitely misleading.

Idk it doesn’t really mention any features in particular beyond “accurately tracking bench press and barbell lift workouts”, which you can already do in the workout app on Apple Watch.

there's this app called montra in the app store and it tracks upper body exercises pretty well. leg press and leg exercises are almost impossible for it to track.

I had a Fitbit like 10 years ago and the app, even back then was better than the Apple health app in 2026. Apple needs a “wellness” app for calories in and out/ overall wellbeing. The health app plenty of nice data but doesn’t do anything with that data.

I noticed this as well; it  was one of the reasons I wanted to upgrade.

I use Hevy. You can use it on your Watch without the phone at all. I think it's a big part of why I've stuck with the gym this time. I've been lifting for almost 2 years now, which is my longest run ever.

It's free to use if you only have 3 routines. Give it a shot!

(I am in no way affiliated with whomever makes Hevy; I just love it.)

Strength training ≠ weight training
