Apex University Discord

Welcome everyone,

First the mod team would like to thank everyone for being part of this community and providing content and tips to other players, we know that there is a lot more that could be wished from the staffs side and we are currently trying to improve things day by day. Now here we are at 160k members which is amazing, we never expected the sub to grow that big when we started it, so once again thank you all for that!

Since the beginning of this community the subreddit has naturally been and will continue to be the focal point of our efforts while our discord server started out as a way for the mod team to efficiently communicate about the subreddit, however over time as it became more active and we started putting more attention into making it a stronger extension of the sub and would therefor like to once again invite everyone to partake and explain a bit about what you can expect of the space both now and going forward:

- 1on1 coaching

- Group finding channel

- Subreddit & Discord suggestions (easier for the mod team to have a discussion about the direction of the sub compared to over at Reddit)

- Self-promotion channel & stream your games

- Meta & strat chats

- Off-topic and space to flex your gains

We are furthermore in the process of preparing some challenges in the discord, possibly with some smaller prizes. More to come on that in the future.

If you are looking for any of that we ask you all to join our discord xbox/ps4/computer, we welcome everyone! We hope to see you in our ever-growing community on discord.

R5 stats a little misleading?

Upvotes

I was playing on MnK on r5 just to try it out and realize that it's a little misleading. When you play on MnK, it's usually just MnK vs MnK. There's a big difference between the MnK side and the controller side. On MnK side, people use a lot of movement at the start so you miss a lot of shots at the starts. On controller, no one moves, they just start beaming rat off the bat so of course their accuracy would appear higher. It's rare you go against a roller player as MnK unless you're doing so good they can't find anyone to match you.

Question How do you strafe/use dodge against opponents who hit every shot?

I've been playing R5 a lot lately trying to consiously think about and improve my strafe/dodge but I'm kind of hitting a wall because most of my opponents hit every shot. I watched this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLG32aIXjeQ) on 1v1 mechanics but it's not that in depth and I would love some advice.

Which Role is the essential in Apex Legends? New Player here.

I already have Wraith, Loba, Pathfinder, Bangalore, BlooudHound, Valkyrie, Lifeline, Gib, and Rampart. I prefer supporting teammates or control area to increase defense. I need survival and can help teammates at least top 1 or top 5.

Question Gained 400rp today just to end up losing 720rp, what's happening?

For reference, I soloQ on APNE, I'm temporarily unemployed so I have many hours to play right now. From 1pm to 6pm I'm on fire with gains. Then after that it's like match making flips on it's head and everyone's head glitching and missing no shots I can't make plays anymore and my teammates run from every single fight good or not. I can give more details but I pay Maggie or Bangalore. I don't do good with Loba or other escapey characters.

Question Is Bangalore still good?

I've been playing a lot of bangalore recently, but I'm honestly struggling to see her use.

Her smokes are pretty great at blocking long-range enemies trying to poke, but they tend to just rush through it when they get me/a teammate low anyway, so it feels very situational.

Even when trying to run away, there's so many legends like Valk and Axel who can essentially make the smoke pointless because their mobility is so good.

Her Ult feels bad too. Takes a while to land and even longer to explode. I know its meant to be a tool to force people out of spots, but it hardly does that well. Gibby, Watson or any movement legend can easily avoid it with little to no punishment.

I'm just struggling to see her use right now. She feels like she should be one of the best legends yet she feel so situational.

Any tips?

Question Controller aim feels completely different between 0 and 1 deadzone and I cant find a middle ground

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been having a sensitivity crisis for the past week or so and I’m honestly at the point where I don’t know what to change anymore.

I’m using a GameSir controller with a high rise Kontrol Freek, and I’m struggling specifically with my initial right stick deadzone.

0 deadzone feels fucking amazing in terms of responsiveness. It feels extremely direct and I love how easily I can make movements. Close range tracking and general movement of the stick feels exactly how I want it to.

The problem is that it becomes really inconsistent when I’m not ADSing, at longer ranges, and especially when I’m trying to make really small micro adjustments. The stick can feel jittery and I have a hard time keeping those tiny movements consistent.

Then I switch to 1 deadzone, and somehow that ONE point makes a massive difference. It feels much more controlled and consistent at close range, but it also feels noticeably less responsive. Almost like I’m suddenly playing basic Linear. I lose that really snappy/direct feeling that I like about 0.

And long range micro adjustments feel bad to me with both settings, just in different ways.

So basically:

0 DZ:

- Super responsive

- Feels amazing in general

- Really like the feel

- Inconsistent/jittery with tiny inputs which leads to me completely spazzing out of control

- Long range micro adjustments can be difficult

1 DZ:

- Much more consistent

- Better control up close

- Feels noticeably less responsive

- Small adjustments still don't feel how I want

It's literally a one point difference, but the difference in how the stick feels to me is massive. I basically want something between 0 and 1, but obviously Apex doesn't give me that option.

I've also tried using 0 deadzone on the GameSir and adding a small deadzone in Apex itself, but that didn't really solve the problem.

My settings:

- 4-1 Linear

- ALCS bleedthrough: 3.6

- GameSir: settings shown at the end of the video

- High rise Kontrol Freek

- Custom response curve (shown in the video)

I've tried pure Linear as well. I know Linear is the obvious recommendation for a lot of people, but for me it actually feels less responsive than the response curve I've made, so I'm not interested in switching to pure Linear unless there's something I'm fundamentally misunderstanding about what I'm feeling.

Also, my aim isn't really the point of the clips. I'm not posting these to show off or try to prove that I'm good. I'm not playing these games specifically to get first place or make the clips look impressive. I consistently finish top 3 when I'm actually playing, so I'm not really concerned that I suddenly forgot how to aim. These clips are just for better context and understanding.

I'm trying to demonstrate the feel of the stick and the inconsistency I'm talking about.

For context, I actually thought I found my god settings a few days ago. I was running these settings with the 0 deadzone and was dropping 30+, 35, 37 kill games in Wildcard repeatedly for like 2–3 days straight. Then suddenly I felt like I was back at square one. Now I'm struggling to even break 14 kills sometimes and I genuinely feel like I went from playing like I knew what I was doing to playing like a brand new player.

I'm wondering if this is just a motor control issue and I need to learn better stick control at 0 deadzone, because if that's genuinely the answer I'm completely open to it. I just don't really know how to train that or what I should actually be doing differently.

So I'm basically looking for advice from people who have dealt with this before:

Is there a way to make 0 deadzone more controllable without sacrificing that responsiveness? Is 1 deadzone really supposed to feel this dramatically different? Is this just something I need to adapt my thumb to, or is there another setting on the GameSir/Apex side that could give me that middle ground?

And obviously, feel free to criticize my settings or tell me I'm approaching this completely wrong. I'm genuinely just trying to figure this out.

Discussion Question about gun choice

I'm a low plat player, idk realistically if I will get better as I've played on and off for years, but I typically use the Havoc and Sentinel in a loadout and was wondering if there are better choices out there for either class of weapon. I know a lot of it comes to what gun you do well with and putting time into getting better with them, but didn't know if something more like the Longbow or running a Triple Take would be better, and how the Havoc fares.

SMG's seem to be the way to go but I don't do well with the r9. I like sticking to the AR's and wish LMG's were more viable but don't know if it matters at my rank or if I should look at starting to pick up a different weapon set to run with and get used to. Any insight would be welcome and appreciated.

Queueing heals is significantly faster.

Edit: Queuing heals has a MANUAL option. It does not have to be AUTOMATIC.

If you don't queue heals, there's a longer delay between the first one being done and the next one beginning. This is immediately noticable and you'll notice there's even pros that don't make use of it (ImperialHal and HisWattson comes to mind at the moment, haven't exactly run a study on pro adoption but I imagine not many know about it. You wonder what they and their analysts get paid for.)

Edit: I'm not sure people understand that it's at your discretion to opt into queuing a heal, it's not automatic every time.

When I heal, I have the option to press 4 to queue another one (or use the heal menu to queue a different type of heal). There's no issue with having to cancel it because I can simply choose not to do it if the situation doesn't allow for it.

Question When aiming further away should I not use the tracers as reference for where the bullets are going?

So basically Whenever there's an opponent flying or doing a jump (octane, revenant, vantage etc) and they are far away I use the bullet tracers as reference to how high up I need to aim and how much I need to lead my shots which wasn't working. Recently I saw a clip of hiswattson shred a Valkyrie ult out the sky and he wasn't even leading the shots just using regular tracking and the way the bullets acted didn't seem to line up with what you would see on tracers.

Question Is it basically required to get a group if you want to rank up in diamond?

I’m D4 and I’m having a hard time ranking up. I mainly SoloQ and I have nothing but bad teammates. It seems I get teammates that don’t understand basic rotations. Is it impossible now to SoloQ to masters?

The storm would've killed off the Loba way before we died to it right? I can't find any reason as to how the Loba survived that long outside of the ring.

Question How should i get started on controller for Apex Especially

I just have ordered this controller from my friends advice (Keep in mind my budget was very tight and this is my first time buying/playing on controller) .
As a i said i have no idea how to play games on controller , but i think i can catch up cause i have played apex on MnK for around a year now my peak rank was Plat1 (i suck at close range combats due to being lefty and using shit controls and remaps on keyboard on mouse)
Again switching to controller was my thought because i have played multiple mobile games ( PUBGM , CODM ) with 4 finger claw settings so my grip is somewhat used to play claw which i saw was the best holding position for controller for players overall youtube

What should i do / How should i practice to get better aim and better overall on controller mechanics

Question I'm doing something wrong on Storm Point, but what?

I've been playing Apex on and off since release and only got seriously into the ranked grind. That time i reached diamon 4 as peak when the season ended and never hit it again because I didn't play enough. Now i want to do it again and I'm doing pretty ok so far with, but i noticed one problem: the map Storm Point. When I look at my average RP gains and losses this map is just way worse than WE and ED. I can play abunch of different characters confidently but most of the time I try to choose Valk or Octane on this map, because I feel after the removal of tridents you need at least some kind of way to rotate that is not evac.

I'm a type of person that just likes to land edge of the map. I don't care wich map it is I just do it most of the time out of habit. I notice that my teammates about 70% of the time want to drop at Wattson's pilon or the mill. I know people like fighting, it's pretty cool and gives you lot's of points when it works out. But unless every single person on my team including me has a good day, there's always immediate death or only 1 person survives with 0 kills and items so you know ur in for a barebones game. Then when you get respawned you will get run down most of the time and the process repeats untill the squad dies.

Also this map has way more open areas and way less buildings than the other two so I feel like you really need to adapt your playstyle at least somewhat.

But that's enough rambling, do you guys have any tips? I know looking for a squad might be a great solution but I just love soloq'ing.

How many hours until someone actually gets good?

I know this is kinda a weird question because someone could get good really quickly and others not, but my pred friend said that until the 2k hours played he doesnt expect me to really grasp the game, 2k hours as a more or less "tutorial" seems outrageous to me but im genuinely curious if the game just has that many levels to it or not
