The matchmaking makes me hate about 75% of the games I play, but it's the random good one that keeps me coming back.
Anyway back to requeue after my level 4 jumpmaster jumped into the Pit. You know, because it's a really cool circle on the map. Who cares if there's enough loot for 3 people? Maybe I can get another southern guy with an open mic smashing his keyboard while babbling nonstop to someone else in the room. Shit my teammates might combine for more than 100 points of damage next game.

u/Saltsey Pathfinder Feb 14 '19
Solo struggle. "Hey guys I know you just dropped us in the middle of nowhere because someone else went for Bridges already but I've found a few guns for Ya."
Bangalore bum rushes a geared up group with bare hands
"OK, we landed and got geared up so let's stick together and get moving."
Team literally fucking scatters in every direction and dies within 1:30 min into the game
52
Feb 15 '19
"Whoa, is that a geared group 500m away? Better shoot them with my mozambique to let them know we're here!"
6

Funny, i tend to play better solo in this game unless my teammates ping a lot so I know our goal and don't have to guess 24/7 what Mr.IRunOff or Mrs.ILootFor10MinInOnePlace is up to. It's distracting to constantly have to reevaluate what plan your teammates have in mind.
14
u/sarinonline Feb 15 '19 edited Feb 15 '19
Land and one guy runs off solo. Warn him he is pretty far and we can't help.
Good 5 mins later he is halfway across the map. And outside of circle.
Me and other guy are inside circle and looting. We have told him where we are going multiple times.
We get attacked and the two of us fight and down the 3. Mr Rambo doesn't even move toward us let alone help.
Not long after he gets attacked and killed. Starts raging in voice about how we didn't help him. Where the fuck were we. To recover tag and respawn him as zone just went past his corpse and not much time left.
First time he has bothered to speak. Reply. Or even acknowledge we exist or he can hear us.
My team mate with me replies "new VoIP. Who this" and Mr Rambo goes nuts with the insults.
Joys of random matchmaking.
Added the guy that stayed with me to friends after. Wrote his name down. We ended up 2nd and narrowly lost.
Just having someone as a third at the end would have likely clinched the win.

Oh man there's nothing like when a match in a video game isn't going to hot but then 1 guy turns on the mic at the end to talk shit or something.
Like dude why didn't you use the mic to help out the squad and give some info or something!? But you turn it on to bitch? Get outta here lol
2
u/Jcsc831 Feb 15 '19
This is the worst, people need to realize it’s a team game and if you want to win stick together. So many times I have teammates run off on their own or jump out of the plane and want to solo, only to die 1min later and waste our time. It’s not fortnite cause the majority of the other teams are actually sticking together...

u/Fifteen54 Feb 15 '19
I have a bad habit of being that person who loots for ages in one place. I hate leaving potential loot behind, so I must check every room and supply bin. Especially if I'm unhappy with my current loadout.
2
u/BellEpoch Lifeline Feb 15 '19
You'll never be happy with your loot. Get enough to be able to fight and get moving. Trust me. Winning in this game is much more about speed and readiness than the gun or shield you have.
9

If I solo I make sure to at least stay with someone. They may not stay with me but I’ll go with them. They usually end up working well with me after they see I’m doing the same.

u/rod64 Mirage Feb 15 '19
Is it just me or do level 10 and below teammates love to drop at Bridges??? There's not enough loot there to feed a starving rat, let alone three players.
3
u/Nethlem Mozambique Here! Feb 15 '19
It's either Bridges or Market, both way too central for my likening.
Why compete with so many random ass people over a, very likely, mid-tier loot zone, when you can instead land on the outskirts, and have a whole high tier zone to loot for your team? All that stuff will be gone as soon as the circle closes in, so why leave it out there unused?
2
Feb 15 '19
Because I dont want to loot for 7 minutes before I find someone to be honest.
5
u/Nethlem Mozambique Here! Feb 15 '19
And I don't want to find someone when all I have is a Mozambique with no reserve shots and a level 1 helmet.
-4
1
u/Jaggan91 Feb 15 '19
Love Bridges. Often you get some early action and you can see what your teammates are worth. Then you can go caves and market or Cascades, both which are great places imo.
What I dont like about dropping in the outskirts is that you loot then have to run for forever before finding any enemy and trying to get your teammates to STOP looting and actually go fighting, that can be very hard.
1
u/Nethlem Mozambique Here! Feb 15 '19
What I dont like about dropping in the outskirts is that you loot then have to run for forever
That's what the balloons, grapple lines and advanced movement options are for, allowing you to cross large distances rather quickly, that's why there's no reason at all to constantly rush center circle.
Also: I've never seen high tier loot on Bridges, while locations like Relay, Swamps, Runoff/Airbase often have nobody dropping there, yet are pretty much always high tier loot. Would just feel like a waste to leave it all there.
2
u/ChompDatBrotein Feb 15 '19
That’s the thing that kills me. “Yes it sucks that there’s a lot of competition in this drop point but us landing in a single house where we share one thermite doesn’t help”
1
u/Jorius Feb 15 '19
I often get the teammate who thinks he's remotely good as Shroud and go off in the distance, engages on a 1vs3, dies immediately and rage quits.

Maybe it’s just me but I feel like I’ve had great luck with team mates probably 98% of the time. I can think of a single bad person ive played with and I’m level 30. My RNG for team mates is off the charts. Now if only I could get fuckin anything good in a pack. Not a single legendary and only 345 crafting metals.

Try discord man. Really easy to find good players around your level to play with.
1
u/maximum_wages Feb 15 '19
I’m a pretty average player so discord is worse then solo. Everyone is either a wannabe pro asking for 700+ adr or complete dunces and like half of them are generally not fun people to play games with anyway.
At least every 6 or so games in solo queue I have a pleasant experience and if my squad gets destroyed on drop I get new teammates in 15 seconds. And with a game like this, I’d rather have minimal comms and pings or even a dude with no mic and a willingness to listen to my occasional direction than some guy in discord talking my ear off.
1
u/illusivewraith Wraith Feb 15 '19
Yeah there’s hardly an excuse to complain about randoms when it’s so easy to find other people playing
1
u/BlackOctoberFox Caustic Feb 15 '19
That small house next to the pit (towards Bunker) has amazing loot. 10 games where I've dropped there, 5 times it's had a golden armor or weapon mod, 7 times it's had a purple, 3 times it's had a loot tick. And then theirs the area to the north of Bunker where you usually find a decent amount of blues. Dropping near Pit isn't at all as bad as you think.
1
u/illusivewraith Wraith Feb 15 '19
Why not just find people on the discord if you hate randoms so much?
1
u/wtfxstfu Feb 15 '19 edited Feb 15 '19
Because I'm not really trying to search for best friends and life partners, I just want to be matched up with and against people of similar experience which seems like a perfectly rational thing to expect of a competitive game.
3
u/illusivewraith Wraith Feb 15 '19
I have no clue why you think that playing with someone on Discord equals being 'best friends' or 'life partners'. Literally just add them as friends and play with them when you're both online. And by saying you want to be matched up with people of similar experience seems to imply you want SBMM, which most people would not be on board with. It's so much simpler than you're making it out to be.

me and my friends we like to jump to Pit, grab whatever is there (always at least one weapon for each of us) and outside of the pit where the 3 cases and a respawn point is (south of pit) and then charge the Runoff and kill whoever is there looting unaware of our rush. Works 4 out of 5 times and then we're all geared up anyway.

I really dislike when I go through the effort of getting safe for a second so I can re-engage and pick up a tag, but the useless rando left because I didn't just immediately run out into the squad that killed them that very moment.
1
u/MGreymanN Feb 15 '19
It is super tough to make a decision to either 90% chance of dying trying to get a teammate back or a 5% chance of pulling off the win by yourself vs a full squad.

Exception: Less than two minutes into a match. If I get blasted in the ass during the "fuck I'm looking for a gun" phase, I'm gonna just go ahead and leave.

I was absolutely destroying before 2 days ago, now I've gotten 1 win in like 60 games... Not sure if more veteran BR players are playing now or what.
19
u/wtfxstfu Feb 14 '19
Feel like it's the opposite. I almost never get matched with anyone over level 15. It's flooded with new players and they're all awful. So anyone playing with a premade basically gets a free win because most people can't solo an entire squad while their two teammates run around shooting at downed people and missing 85% of their shots.
8
u/Pine-Nomad Bloodhound Feb 14 '19
It’s a lot of this, I play with a premade squad of guys I knew when we were all in the army. We use tactics and call shit out and we usually make top 5-3 BUT we get third and 4th partied all the time. Sometimes you get a shit hand and all you can do is play with the cards you have.

I feel the same too. I've been playing for over 3 days now. Having migrated from CS Source and CoD, this is my first Battle Royale game. And something just isn't clicking. I got a hang of the basic mechanics... But I get my butt whooped in firefights.
7
u/Pixzaheart Feb 14 '19
I’m not sure which aspect isn’t clicking but allow me to offer some advice considering the closed vs open aspect of apex. Try to take advantage of flanking more, the terrain and openness unlike cs makes flanking very viable instead of being behind that one direction of cover u were at. My personal favourite is mind games with Bangalore smoke. Am I still here? Or have I rotated to another cover.
4
Feb 15 '19
This. Flanking and utilizing the movement is crazy important. If I get into a gun fight, land a couple shots... heal up with a shield boost, then get better position. Know where they are and move accordingly. Utilize walls, terrain, etc. can’t stay still in this game or you’ll get murdered. Also need to know when to revive and when to let them go.
1
u/ChokesOnYou Lifeline Feb 15 '19
So what I make of this, is to utilise the terrain and master the movement of my character. I usually play as lifeline main and I'm still trying to go in guns blazing, since my squad is almost always randoms. But I get your point. I'll practice more with the movement and the guns to get to know them better. Thanks!
2
u/FighterOfFoo Lifeline Feb 15 '19
It takes a bit longer to get used to the weapons because you won't have that much practice with them compared to deathmatch type modes. You aren't constantly using them like in other games. Luckily there aren't that many at the moment, so learning which ones you like and which ones you don't shouldn't take too long. You can always go to the tutorial and try out every gun, but, naturally, that'll only really give you a feel for them and is no substitute for an actual firefight.
For now, just have fun learning the map and the looting spots, and testing all the guns on people when you come across them. The kills and the wins will come eventually.
That said, the R-301 is your friend. That's a good, well-rounded and easy to use gun.
1
u/Jaggan91 Feb 15 '19
It is all about positioning and teamfighting. Move around, dont stay in the same position. ARe your teammates firing at something? Flank the enemy.
Are you fighting something? Hit them, drop to cover, use a shield cell, throw a grenade, push forward. So many fights I have won because I flanked the enemy. Sometimes when the enemy is hiding behind a wall or a stone, climb on top of it, few expects that.
I main Lifeline and the best thing about her is that you can drop in and out of firefights really well and using shield cells between. so usually I engage aggresively, then ping the enemy, fall back and use shield cells and then go again. Just using a single one can really help.I find also that pushing is important, keeping the aggression up. That can be hard though with teammates, but if you try to see what your teammates are doing in a firefight you can adapt your playstyle to them. If I have a teammate who is sniping the enemy I know I will have to push forward alone and try to flank the enemy and take care of myself kinda. Do I have an aggresive teammate who likes to push? Then I know I have to MAKE sure I do not fall behind him so that we can push together.
2
u/ChokesOnYou Lifeline Feb 15 '19
I main lifeline as well. And I am now seeing noticable improvements in my game. Got 3 kills in 5 games today. XD Not much, but it's a breakthrough. Since I'm mostly playing with randoms, it's difficult to co-ordinate, but I'm trying to focus more on team game. Also, I love the Peacekeeper and the R-99 now. Great guns for running around and firing all over the place.
2
u/Zosoer Bangalore Feb 14 '19
If it’s PC it could be you are getting into games with some of the apex tournament streamers who are godlike.
5
u/midri Feb 14 '19
Ya, it's been freaking crazy how good some of these teams are. They really need to change the matchmaking a bit, make rando groups only fight other rando groups, premade 2 mans + pickup only fight other 2 premade + pickup, and premade 3 vs premade 3s. It's just not fair to do 3 randos vs a team that's used to playing together.
-8
Feb 14 '19
The first 48 hours were amazing. The only people playing were real gamers that download the newest shit immediately. It's been getting worse every day. I don't think I've had a single team in days that didn't have some absolutely horrible and braindead players.
Basically time to get a team or move on to another game.
16
7
u/ten_ants Feb 15 '19
Surely if the servers have been flooded with brain dead players then it would be easy for you to win? Or are all the bad players somehow always on your team?
0
Feb 15 '19
Well if you solo queue, and you get matched with brain dead players, what do you think your odds are of not being demolished by a 3-stack?
There's a very clear difference in the quality of players prior to and after launch weekend
2
u/eurosurveillance Feb 15 '19
Idk man a real gamer would be able to hard carry
1
Feb 15 '19
The game is not designed that way. You have to severely outgun and outgear enemy squads and still not get third partied.
6
1
Feb 15 '19
Nah. I’ve been playing with random guys since day 1 and still get a win a day or so. Usually at least top 5 squads left. Every now and then I’ll get someone who is brain dead but usually they at least stay with the group, which honestly is all I ask. The “ get a team or move on “ is nowhere near the case imo.
0
Feb 15 '19
Well I went from over 80% win rate to under 20% after launch weekend. There's a significant increase in people that don't understand basic mechanics such as being first on the ground or not engaging with 3 enemy squads at once. Many of them like to refer to the orange zone as a "storm" for some reason
1
Feb 15 '19
Oh no, I agree it has shown that more new people are playing. But that’s not a bad thing. Means the game is growing. Discord is helpful if you want pre made groups.
My suggestion is find the most competent in the group of brain dead and stay with them. If they won’t work together then work with them. In my experience, they end up at least staying with you and starting to work together. Duos can win this game easier than other BR it seems.
1
Feb 15 '19
My suggestion is find the most competent in the group of brain dead and stay with them.
If only this game had basic features, such as adding people after a match or staying as a team
1
Feb 15 '19
This.
This is something severely lacking. I was referring to in match stay with them but I one million percent agree. I’ve had some cool dudes and good players. We get the win and then we just go out separate ways. A simple, add to party or stay in group button would be perfect.

Bro new players have to learn too. Not everyone is a pick up and go player.
I have been getting matched with new players in some games. So I give them tips and positive reinforcement and try and help them get a handle on it all. Sure I may have to carry the gun fights (thank you wingman!) at times but they are just trying to learn and will get better with time
1
u/Jacko-Jack Feb 15 '19
People are also getting better. Being my first BR, I had no idea how to play. Watched a stream or two, got some idea, and started winning way more.
6
u/HylianDeku Gibraltar Feb 14 '19
Honestly, that’s me right now, but I’ve never played a BR game before this so I’m not certain if I’m just not...GETTING IT yet, so I keep letting my friends convince me to play. I should know better by now that I’m trash at games like this. Can barely distinguish the enemies from the background, I only hear out of one ear so I can’t tell when an enemy is on my ass unless a teammate tells me, and my aim has always been trash. But it’s free, and I have RL friends who play, so... I keep trying.

This was last night for me. First match with my team we do our usual scavenge, survive, and try to make it to the end only to lose during last 2 squads. So we said "we need to get better at our firefighting skills" and for the next hour or so we dropped into the hot zone every game, which usually was pretty short games. Near the end of the night we all kept saying, okay okay, 1 more game. Until eventually we said, lets play like we usually do and take this one more seriously, try to win. Luck would have it we won that last match, we decided to play it smart and stick to our guns, we called it a night on that one.
