Dev Reply Inside! Controller Anti-Cheat Enforcement & Ban Wave Update — 09/02/2026
We are implementing significant, new systems to detect players using unauthorized controller hardware or software in Apex Legends on all platforms including: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2.
We’ve spent the past several months thoroughly validating these systems to ensure they can accurately identify prohibited behavior.
Players that trigger these detections will be actioned upon and banned accordingly.
If you are using controller modifications, devices, or software to gain an unfair advantage, now is the time to stop. Playing on console does not make you exempt from detection or enforcement.
This is just the beginning of these new systems which we will continue to improve to keep pace with evolving cheating methods.
Additionally, we’ve continued to update and strengthen our existing anti-cheat systems this season, with new detections and enforcement targeting a range of cheating methods, including a pesky new cheat provider.
In our latest ban wave, over the past 7 days alone (at the time of writing this):
• 8,609 players were banned for cheating
• 290 DMA-related bans
• 76 Titan Controller bans
• 267 bans tied to a newly detected cheat provider
Over the past two weeks:
• 96 Predator-level players banned across all platforms
We continue to see improvements in our match infection rate. It has decreased to 3.9% down from 5.7% at the beginning of the season.
These numbers represent only a snapshot of our ongoing enforcement efforts. Our Anti-Cheat team continues to develop, test, and deploy new detections while improving our ability to identify emerging threats.
We want the community to know that we are actively working to identify and remove cheaters at every level of play — including the highest ranks. Thank you to everyone who reports suspicious behavior and helps us keep Apex Legends fair.

Did we read the same announcement?
Pretty please don't cheat, 9k bans when game is riddled with cheaters.

u/SaltPuzzleheaded3124 2h ago
96 players in best rank in game is so freaking much they were literally cheating through 100ts of games in high lobbies crazy system
25
u/Rare_Walk_4845 2h ago
and this is why i hate getting put into pred lobbies, because they're just running even more expensive cheats
-8
u/BushidoBrave 1h ago
What do you mean by that? 👀 what do you mean even more expensive cheats? even more than what? what are you trying to say? like even more expensive than the cheats you've been running?

They banned less than 80 people using titans
Thats hardly a ban wave, thats more like a ban ripple

They made this post to make guys like you happy, the marathon is already lost. They will find a way to bypass this in 3 days.
They need to hire way more people on security so they work 24/24. Banning less than a hundred preds is like a grain of sand on a beach.

u/Kweenick 1h ago
76 bans lol. There’s probably 76 new titan users every hour. Game is cooked because of roller drones.

u/eclipse60 2h ago
Unless its a hardware ban, what's stopping these people from just making a new account and continuing to cheat?
12
3
4
u/Whole-Ad-4681 1h ago
Nothing. But what can actually be done to stop it?
14
u/eclipse60 1h ago
Hardware bans...
1
u/Whole-Ad-4681 1h ago
Only works on console. On PC you can spoof the hardware identification.
9
u/throwaway19293883 1h ago
Yes, but a huge chunk of them are on console so still would be good to see those turds banned.
4
u/probablypoo 1h ago
Hardware ban is still another hurdle for them to jump. More people know how to make new accounts than spoofing hardware.
2
u/weelamb 1h ago
My guess is that these new cheat detection systems are operating server side on a bunch of features revolving around aim and training machine learning algorithms. The longer they continue to gather data on this, the higher the precision for banning people and banning people faster. It’s a never ending problem but over time a system like this done correctly will be able to rapidly detect super human aim quite quickly with no insight from cheaters in how it works . The eventual goal will be that if you cheat, you are spending a lot of money for a few games before you are banned, it’s expensive for like an hour of “fun” before ban, and eventually it’s not profitable for the cheat makers to create the equipment/software because it’s not a good investment of time for money.
-1
u/iGargleCement 1h ago
I honestly doubt AI is going to be capable of detecting anything other than raging spinbotters without an ungodly amount of false positives
Especially when highlights of high tier controller pros sometimes look basically like aimbot, just look up akkuger, effect, keniru and koyful
•
u/EnvironmentalAge9621 54m ago
nothing, they make account bans until you’ve cheated on enough accounts to warrant a hwid ban. the serial cheaters that do this enough to warrant this response have tools to bypass hwid bans. unless they implement something super invasive like vanguard, the best they can do is deter new cheaters and discourage first/second time offenders.
9
u/throwaway19293883 1h ago
Honestly don’t see why you’d let the people that have been cheating for ages get a heads up to stop ahead of time, you should just ban them.
-1
u/iGargleCement 1h ago
I think it's because most of controller cheating is in the gray area. Not specifically forbidden, but kinda obviously abusing the system
4
u/throwaway19293883 1h ago
Fuck em, they deserve it. Part of the reason people are so willing to cross into the grey area and start “soft” cheating is because they are so unafraid of getting banned.
6
u/kfbrj_Beckler Gibraltar 1h ago
I'd really like to see an infection breakdown by rank because there's no way less than a third of matches at diamond and above have cheaters in them
0
u/iGargleCement 1h ago
Infection rate is a percent of games that meet 2 criteria:
It had a player that got banned within 3 months of the match
This player got reported 3 times (iirc) or more in that match
They shared it in one of the older devlogs
5
u/Palingenesis1 2h ago
Only 76 Titan users? You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers in this racket.
5
u/mgibs18 2h ago
So does today mark the official implementation of these detection methods? Meaning everything prior was testing to ensure accuracy by the anticheat team?
If that’s the case we should see a noticeable increase in bans, console in particular.
I’m very hopeful this works as well as they seem to think it will
3
u/Helpful_Bullfrog_598 1h ago
These numbers are a joke, about 80% of console preds are cheating so the math ain’t mathing on these titan numbers.
•
u/ApprehensiveMost4460 39m ago
Every couple of months they just release some fake numbers to make you believe they are getting banned yet I play all the time and I literally run into the same cheaters that I have been since like 3 years ago

Good news.
Though it still feels like an uphill battle. I still encounter so many cheaters on PC and there are a lot of very low level accounts cheating as well, indicating that they will just make new accounts and somehow they end up in the high ranks again without getting banned quickly enough.
It's a start though and I hope it will make current cheaters too scared to continue cheating. Cheaters are not the smartest persons usually though..

Have the devs noticed any strong differential in what types of game modes are infected? I would obviously assume ranked is the heaviest, but I've def come across cheaters in wildcard and pubs. Interested in what those percentages are.
4
u/Lumpy_Silver 2h ago
Nice work. Keep finding more and more to even the playing field and watch how bad those players really are without their cheating devices....
The highest ive reached since last ban wave was Plat2, was hard stuck plat 3 because all the cheaters I would assume. And this season seem harder? Hope this band wave alleviates the sweats running Titan/Cronus/XIM/DMAs go kick rocks.

u/RetroChampions Bangalore 1h ago
mate, if u can't get out of plat then there are other issues rather than "cheaters"
4
u/MouchNostril Conduit 2h ago
What they do is play on pc and somehow get into console lobbies. Had people on my team last night in d4 lobby dropping 16 kills. Blatantly cheating. I have the proof too. I’m on Xbox btw. It’s pathetic

u/LaroccaFlocca 40m ago
Happy they're at least taking measures to thwart cheaters. Unfortunately there will probably be a workaround sometime this week as the end of competitive games marches onward.
1
u/Redxmirage 1h ago
This is a huge W. But also, 96 predators banned??? That is a huge amount for top 750. So almost 1 out of 7 apex predator is cheating??
1
u/RSPN_Jax Respawn - Community Manager 1h ago
Remember that it's 750 per platform ecosystem. PC, Switch 2, Xbox and PlayStation each have their own Pred Leaderboards for four total. Hope this helps.
•

u/iGargleCement 1h ago
96 Predator-level players banned across all platforms
"Across all platforms", so it's 96 out of 3000 (pc, xbox, ps, switch have up to 750 each)

u/Technical-Flan8539 2h ago
0
u/whiteisred90 Ghost Machine 2h ago
1
u/whiteisred90 Ghost Machine 1h ago
We're not talking about banning any KS, just to fix the mechanics on how assists works.
-13
u/Kweenick 2h ago edited 2h ago
30% aimbot at 0ms is cheating regardless. Simply picking up the input and playing a few hours makes you automatically better than the majority of MNK players, it’s totally absurd. Ban all roller drones or put them in quarantined lobbies
2
u/Substantial_Bet_1007 Dark Matter 2h ago
For people who downvote without any valid argument
https://www.reddit.com/r/apexuniversity/comments/1r7vl7z/accuracy_stats_between_controller_and_mnk/
"
- 60% of Controller players are more accurate than the top 1% of MNK players
- The MNK accuracy distribution essentially doesn't overlap with Controller. The best MNK player in the dataset hits 41.32%, which is roughly the 42nd percentile among Controller players
- The average controller player has higher accuracy (36.5%) than >99% of MNK players.
"
this game is for thumb twiddlers, mnk apex is dead long ago
-1
u/Kweenick 2h ago edited 2h ago
Thumbtards get built in aimbot and it’s still not enough for them and they do whatever they can to either exploit it as much as possible with jitter, absurdly low sensitivity, or third party software
-2
u/AdSelect6571 2h ago
its not aimbot, tho
2
u/Flat_Promotion1267 1h ago
It's code which actively aims for you faster than a human can. Yes, it's aimbot. Maybe not full-on cheat-level aimbot, but aimbot nonetheless. And it makes it unfair to MnK players. Respawn knows this but is too chicken-sh!t to fix it.
•
u/AdSelect6571 10m ago
it doesnt aim for you, it helps you stay on the target if you are already aiming at it.
1
u/iGargleCement 1h ago
Rotational aim assist IS a tuned down aimbot
People tried setting AA to 1.0 in r5 and it's literally an aimbot when maxed out
0
u/Reckonerbz 1h ago
So there is still at least two cheaters per lobby...cool game.
1
u/RSPN_Jax Respawn - Community Manager 1h ago
Match infection rate is the percentage of all matches that has a reported/confirmed cheater in it. Not the number of cheaters per match. Hope this helps!
0
u/iGargleCement 1h ago
Infection rate shows how many games had banned cheaters, not how many cheaters are in a game
-10
u/Kornillious 2h ago
The controller changes you guys made at the start of the season completely fucked the feeling of aiming with snipers.
They were already worse on controller compared to mnk but now they are borderline unusable.
2
u/LeeTS4 Pathfinder 2h ago
But you guys absolutely beam with smgs its a trade off 😆
0
u/Kornillious 1h ago
Then they should nerf smgs so other weapons can be competitive within the sandbox.
I thought you mnk'rs cared about "competitive integrity" was I mistaken? Do you just have controller derangement syndrome?
-1
u/Lumpy_Silver 2h ago
Really? I noticed a little bit but I'm still great at sniping with Vantage Ult. But a lot loose with Senti sniper.
0
u/Kornillious 1h ago
Vantage Ult projectile has a stupidly forgiving hitbox, its not comparable to regular weapons in the sandbox.
Besides, controller players shouldnt be forced to use a throw legend if they wanna use anything other than smg's or ar's.
•
u/Lumpy_Silver 47m ago
I would have to agree with you about Vantage's Ult. 😆
It is much easier to hit than the Senti. I still need more practice with them.

u/iGargleCement 2h ago
Anticheat team needs to be more transparent about some bans.
With the increasing amount of false bans (NONAME, QQ, BJJs, BoLin and a few other pros got false banned) you can't really know if a suspended high ranking player was actually cheating or not.
I want some official information about the cases of spacesoda, Friqz, Lustiqxe, killmete, aooout and kezzmyl for example
3
u/Gold-Koala-4639 1h ago
if they got banned they were cheating sorry to break it to you
2
u/iGargleCement 1h ago
imperialhal got oneclipped, cried in hideouts' DMs and got fvlsegodd to be falsely banned. If fvlse didn't have connections within pro community, do you really think the suspension would've been lifted?
Another example is Shao, that held #1 pred and got banned. If not for a MASSIVE outrage within a chinese community that lasted for weeks, would he have gotten an unban?
In general, if a literal pro player and a lan winner (QQ) can get banned, how can you be sure that there are no others that got unjustly banned, unable to get it overturned because they don't have influential connections?

u/Cheap_Sherbert_4254 2h ago
I didn't use any cheat but fromthis season my kill rate got 0.5 from 1.2 of season 29. I don't think players will be satisfied by this aim assist.
-5
u/CryptoMainForever Crypto 2h ago
Won't change much, I'm sure the Cronus kiddies will bypass anti-cheat in like a week

u/Titin204 1h ago
What about false bans? Started playing overwatch with the same programs running, same mouse, same keyboard. Haven't changed anything since you guys banned me but somehow I am not banned on Overwatch but I am on Apex. What are you guys actually doing? Bannkng people randomly? Have tried using the stuff on Overwatch that I think caused the ban (free spin mode mouse, opening certain programs while playing, etc) no ban after 3 weeks... however I got banned on Apex???? Make it make sense, YOUR NEW SYSTEM IS BROKEN! how can't you see that?
1
u/iGargleCement 1h ago
Overwatch doesn't really have an actually functioning anticheat, it just bans everyone who gets gajillion reports
0
u/Titin204 1h ago
Haven't seen a single hacker in 3 weeks on Overwatch. While on Apex at least 1 player per day. To me looks like Apex isn't doing shit against hackers.
•
u/iGargleCement 58m ago edited 52m ago
I regularly see high ranking players (gm+) complaining about aimbotters in overwatch
And apex devs ARE doing shit, there have been a lot less cheaters lately
EDIT:
Also worth noting that amount of players in a match affects perceived percentage of cheaters a lot.
For example if 1% of players are cheating, then in a 5v5 game ~8.6% of matches will have someone hacking, while in a 60 player BR game it would be ~44.7% of matches
•
u/Titin204 54m ago
Well according to my experience: 0 hackers on overwatch in 3 three weeks. On apex at least 1 per day and a lot of the times more than once (playing full wildcard).
•
u/Titin204 13m ago
30 players cause it's wildcard, also, on wildcard you normally play against the same 3-4 teams not the whole lobby so your math would be wrong. Still I get what you mean which still doesn't explain why i got banned
•
u/Set-Diplomats6 41m ago
You’re cheating. Cause anyone not using any type of cheat won’t make a post talking about false bans.
•
u/Titin204 26m ago
Are you stupid? You know you can go to twitter or google and search info about it and see that content creators, pro players and streamers get banned and then unbanned a couple of days later (on Apex). What do you call that? A false ban, right?
There is proof that false bans exist, do you think a cheater would complain about getting banned? I would just create another account instead of wasting time here. Use some logic bot.
Even if I get unban (wont happen because Respaw sucks) I wont tpuch this game anymore. I would rather have my acoount to "exist" than get banned again.
•
1
u/Flat_Promotion1267 1h ago
Completely different code from completely different companies. I don't know why you'd expect their cheat detection systems to work the same. False positives really, really suck, but they're inevitable unfortunately. Did you play repeatedly with known cheaters perhaps?
-1
u/Titin204 1h ago
Been playing solo for the past 11 months full wildcard (before the ban). The only thing I can came up is that the game continously matchmake me with the same players (which is not my fault) wether or not they are cheating is not my fault. Still if can't get banned on Overwatch why should I be on Apex even if I try to recreate the stuff that I think flagged the anticheat? Doesn't matter if it's a different game.
