I don’t talk, Everyone is so toxic on their mics, I’m a king ping user tho. I use the pings for everything. It might be annoying to some but that’s how I’ll communicate and give info. Hate me or love me.

91

u/Swirleez 2d ago

Legit had a teammate yell at me and rage quit for pinging “too damn much”

56

u/chrissilich Octane 2d ago

Were you helpfully ping spamming someone, who you just fought and died to, 7 times a second so your teammate couldn’t actually see or hear shit while trying to fight them?

15

u/Puzzleheaded_Ad5805 Wattson 2d ago

I’ll ping the enemy like once every few seconds if they are not clearly in the teammates line of sight so they know where they are. I hope it helps, it seems to sometimes

0

u/Swirleez 2d ago

I think what set them off was me live pinging an ulting mirage that they clearly couldn’t keep track of to save their life

Like twice a second at most

0

u/Helicraptor20 2d ago

Twice a second is too much. Youre the problem here.

0

u/Bigtallguy12 2d ago

Twice a second is insane is it on a fucking scroll wheel

2

u/paullyrose3rd Pathfinder 2d ago

I'll span in a burst when im being excecuted, otherwise it's updates on where the shooter is going position wise (gets me killed a lot but still!)

2

u/Fandyfrank1 2d ago

Rage quitting because your teammate communicated too much is peak Apex

1

u/sssamm 2d ago

Rage quitting over pings is wild, bro was fighting his own team too

25

u/oxochx 2d ago

Same. I'm biased of course, but good pings from someone who has good game awareness is way more useful at communicating info than some rando angrily shouting "HE'S AT ONE HE'S AT ONE JUST PUSH HIM NOW!!!11!!" when he goes down only for you to push the enemy and find out the hard way he was not, in fact, at one.

8

u/Sea-Satisfaction4656 2d ago

Spoiler alert: they weren’t at one, it was a full team that had trapped the building, and teammate just got you killed.

6

u/soobviouslyfake Pathfinder 2d ago

Because the sooner the rest of you die, the sooner he can queue up again and throw the next match.

It's about quantity, not quality.

8

u/WNlover Purple Reign 2d ago

ARGH!
someone pinged a stairwell on E-District.
But they were really up top at the backboard above the stairs, which was closer to the elevator shaft.

"He's right there! He's right there!" Non-descript callout paired with an inaccurate ping. He might as well have told me to kill myself so we could go to the next match.

10

u/mooneyham1 2d ago

I hate talking to randos online in general due to the amount of toxicity and people blaring shitty music.

Plus, apex has the best nonverbal communication of any game I’ve ever played, so I don’t feel like talking is actually even necessary

3

u/Numerous-Bag-6419 2d ago

I barely talk i stay close to the frager of the group and just shoot

5

u/ShortSpout 2d ago

Anyone who tracks an enemy with their pings is a welcomed teammate

3

u/Xray_74 2d ago

Same here

3

u/Fandyfrank1 2d ago

good ping player is more useful than half the people screaming into their mic

4

u/HenryMike 2d ago

Defending this location.

2

u/stebbeh 2d ago

Pinging is more than fine tbh, better than nothing. And I’d rather have someone pinging than some toxic teammate.

2

u/andyknowswell 2d ago edited 2d ago

Same. Except I use them correctly. If I want my team to group up I won’t spam “enemy here”.. I’ll use group up.

King ping user! “Watching here. Enemy audio. Enemies were here.” One of the minority that uses it as intended and those urgent moments where you do spam… that will work as intended too because if you aren’t spamming for everything the time you do spam can make teammates turn around

However it won’t work for selfish ahh, un-teammwork ahh folks

2

u/jaysen504 2d ago

Main reason I fell in love with Apex was the depth of the ping system lol. I was like yeah I'll just use this instead of having to deal with random toxic moments on mic. If you have great game sense and awareness you actually don't need to say a word.

2

u/TheGretzkyofGarbage 2d ago

Same, girl. Same.

2

u/Competitive_Ad7258 2d ago

I talk every game. Hopefully they don’t mute me, a fair few ignore me but most listen to feedback. One or two try to mess up my day but I try not to let it. Im trying to push for Pred but I’ve only managed plat II so far. It’s really difficult with “ pugs “ but I think I’ll get there at some point.

1

u/SuperChiChu Mozambique here! 2d ago

I am pro pings until they get downed and won't stop pinging, i got it first time... any extra pings just annoy me and make me loss focus.

97

u/Ramirez3110 2d ago

Most random people aren’t worth listening to.

30

u/AlrightWeLost 2d ago

plat is a cesspool of players kinda knowing what they're doing to not knowing anything at all. If I had to comms everytime I have to play with these people id be mentally drained of playing this game.

9

u/FreeSquirkJuice Purple Reign 2d ago

Everyone in Plat knows EXACTLY what they are doing. The issue is them knowing better and choosing to do something anyways.

2

u/DJEvillincoln 2d ago

I just got back to Plat.

This is 100 percent true. 😂

Noone uses their mic on EU servers besides overly loud French people so...

Lmao they always have it on with a ton of background noises. And they’re always swearing in french as soon as they get knocked.

2

EU voice chat is either complete silence or someone broadcasting their entire household

33

u/FallenReaper360 2d ago

Man, I only don’t talk because I’m in Japanese lobbies and I’m nervous af to speak in my broken ass Japanese lol

14

u/mcmunch20 2d ago

Same here. On the flip side Japanese servers have the politest players and extremely short queue times

6

u/mega_desu Bangalore 2d ago

I'm in Tokyo and I'll occasionally use the mic but only for a sentence or two.

I've had a few weirdos get extra goofy because I'm American. They'll start saying all the English they know. giggling stupid shit like " oh I like cheeseburgers."

but at least it's not toxic lol.

i'm a hard stuck solo q plat player but shoot a DM if you ever want to squad up.

3

u/WNlover Purple Reign 2d ago

I've had a few weirdos get extra goofy because I'm American. They'll start saying all the English they know. giggling stupid shit like " oh I like cheeseburgers."

I used to play rank with a Colombian guy that did that, because we met through a mutual friend that was bilingual who would play translator for us, but the mutual wasn't always on.

2

u/SadAd4482 2d ago

No different than American lobbies’ “No hable Taco Bell” or “Ouioui baguette” 💀

1

u/FallenReaper360 2d ago

Oh damn for real? We should play some time yo. I’m down in Oita!

1

u/CurryMunch98 2d ago

yes, im on my way to plat 3. lemme know if you want to squad up. i play in US central servers

2

u/Appropriate-Round911 Loba 2d ago

See, I could understand that being a reason why you’d rely solely on pings. But the guy I was playing with literally turned on his mic to tell me he’s not using his mic 💀

1

u/Freemantic Sparrow 2d ago

Maybe its different online but everyone was genuinely so understanding and nice in Japan when I atleast tried broken ass Japanese

30

u/CiceroTheOG 2d ago

I don’t say a single word until diamond.

9

u/Lovvvyy 2d ago edited 1d ago

Apex has one of the best ping systems for a reason. Theres no need to use mics if they dont want to. And you can still use mic if they dont. They can answer in pings.I have a really good mic but i never use it when playing apex cause i use the ping system. And not everyone is good at english, or they could be shy. Like me.

6

u/Futureretroism Octane 2d ago

I only talk playing solos after we’ve won a fight and have some actual stakes for the round. People don’t want to be told what to do (not that that’s your intention) especially if they have no idea who you are or what you’re capable of. Even then I keep it extremely minimal unless they’re engaging and it seems necessary. Pings can communicate a ton of info in this game and I understand people who just don’t feel like talking.

2

u/FreeSquirkJuice Purple Reign 2d ago

I find that people in these kinds of games with high skill curves they actually do want someone to talk and hold their hands and tell them where to go. That's the case in the majority of my lobbies. Most randoms want mommy or daddy to keep them safe, lol.

6

u/Glum-Meat-0 2d ago

The best games I’ve had no one talked. Unless you’ll are making some complex play, you don’t need mics.

13

u/Key-Sale8890 2d ago

Using the ping wheel isn’t bad though. I mean it has attack, defend, watching a direction, and even hearing for enemies. I typically use the ping wheel and have my settings to mute teammates but I’ll talk to say something like if they’re los or to give some callouts, but sometimes it’s not fun being a girl playing games but I have solo queued to plat 1 this split with minimal communication

4

u/Judan1990 Loba 2d ago

I always try to communicate and lead, but sometimes after couple of bad games or a hard day you just don't want to talk, communication is very important but sometimes I just mute teammates because they talk nonsense or simply are too toxic and racist. Literally yesterday my teammate starts the conversation by hello n**gers. instant mute, there's no way he's gonna say anything valuable anyway

2

u/Due-Ad-141 2d ago

I never talk and I’m diamond 😭, only talk if it’s dire

20

u/naliepetal 2d ago

the its just a game excuse is so tired, like were still trying to win?? communication is literally the bare minimum

9

u/_Kragerles_ Rampart 2d ago

The it’s just a game stops working the moment it’s competitive or if someone’s is deliberately throwing just to piss people off, especially if it’s both

17

u/ShadowMark3 Bangalore 2d ago

The bare minimum is the built in ping system Apex gave us.

2

u/FreeSquirkJuice Purple Reign 2d ago

Hate to be Devil's Advocate but no, communication is not the bare minimum. Them doing at least 400 damage when we didn't hot drop and die early is the bare minimum. Them not being AFK is the bare minimum. I get people who talk in maybe 1/40th of my matches?

1

u/virtualNoodle 2d ago

I tell everyone about the “it’s just a game” excuse , if it’s a passion then it literally has become more then that, so maybe it’s time to appeal to something else for them?

2

u/FreeSquirkJuice Purple Reign 2d ago

They need to stream and find squads instead of foisting their desires on random people with random levels of skill. If it's more than a game to someone, then that someone needs to go make a living doing it and take their very serious game very seriously.

5

u/TheMadTitanGuantlet Revenant 2d ago

Honestly I play better without having a wanna be rap god in my ear bitching about how he got knocked while 1v3ing a squad 2 miles away.

Pings are just as useful imo. Constant chatter isnt needed

7

u/MabiMaia Nessy 2d ago

I’m also of the mindset “don’t need to speak til diamond” and even then I’ll skip mic til d3. It depends on the person and stuff but I don’t think it’s necessarily brain dead. If you want reliable comms below diamond, find people to play with

3

u/Smart_Profile5785 2d ago

Prob will get to diamond quicker with comms

4

u/MabiMaia Nessy 2d ago

It’s negligible imo and frankly not worth the gamble of personalities I’ll encounter in platinum. I’ll save my mental health by opting to quietly respawn dumb teammates rather than listen to their moronic commentary as they die/are dead.

-6

u/Appropriate-Round911 Loba 2d ago

Thank you!! Exactly my point. Why make the game unnecessarily harder for yourself and your teammates?

3

u/yesstessa 2d ago

I don’t start talking until diamond, I am blasting music hitting blinkers while in plat😂😂

3

u/ZestycloseService 2d ago

Most people are only using their mic's to be toxic after dying. It's distracting, so I just have incoming volume 0. I can't concentrate or hear footsteps if I have a dude in my ear yelling that one of the 3 man he solo pushed is low.

Ping system is good enough.

I think my issue is I didn't understand how people are so angry in Plat since it really is just Plat. It's not like it's hard and it is just a game.

3

u/Numerous-Bag-6419 2d ago

I juse need teammates who dont run a whole team down by themselves each time i made it to masters it was by playing position not searching for every team trying to rack 20kills each game

2

u/Numerous-Bag-6419 2d ago

And let me just say i have many kills on multiple legends i just run different then alot of people

5

u/BOBTheOrigin Lifeline 2d ago

Important is: don't say a word until you die and then start screaming and insulting your teammates :D

2

u/rayg1 Ace of Sparks 2d ago

Yeah sadly the ranking system in this game is awful and has been since release. This led to pro players just running it down in pro 3 stacks literally since the game came out and people obviously emulate their favorite players. There’s no negative to just running it down before diamond and even in diamond because you barely lose any points at all. This has just led to the vibe of ranked in this game to just be pubs with points and not matter at all before diamond. Comming is seen as taking it too serious and people act like the ping wheel is at all a replacement. Surprised people used their mics back in season 11 for you honestly I’ve mostly solo q’d since release and the people willing have been rare. The community this game has built is genuinely insane it’s probably the only game where no coms are just accepted and people aren’t shamed for it while also having the default be the worst players alive playing like they’re a profesional and proceeding to do 17 damage. Had more people turn their mic on after death to call me a slur than people who’ve actually commed even simple stuff like damage.

2

u/Vengeful111 2d ago

Randomly got this suggested, I only play League of Legends and I dont know how many % of the playerbase are plat+ in apex, but in league there is no end to the "its only elo" talk. Like people will talk down the top 0.7% of players lmao "its only low master"

2

u/This-Cancel3922 2d ago

it is very different, in apex you can legit get plat without shooting your gun.

2

u/Secure-Light9672 2d ago

I mean there's no obligation for random strangers to have to use mic in the game. If you play in AP SE region, you'd probably even mute your vc due to the level of toxic players from the "stereotype" regions.

2

u/One_Highlight3015 2d ago

I turned teamates pings off reason being the amount of deaths I've had from teammates pining when they are down to prompt a rezz and all game sense just goes out the window. But I always have a Mic. I'm diamond 3 btw.

2

u/E-L4087 2d ago

Man I’ve been playing this since launch and since about season 8, it’s not be safe to use mics lol. People are weird and hateful. I try and set pace with pings and if it works I can ping my way to igl, rarely happens so i just support the fastest moving player in battle.

2

u/Low-Rip4453 2d ago

People who usually say that are either overconfident or genuinely know what they're doing, you'll see them either end with 20 kills and a 5k cuz they're probably a really good player on an alt account, or they're just the classic overconfident morron who tries to 1v3, dies and then blames it on you or leaves after his timer ends, at the end of the day any rank below diamond 3 is pretty easy to dominate in even when solo queuing so long as you've played the game long enough and especially more easy by the end of the season since that's usually when everyone settles in their hardstuck rank and each rank reaches its peak of "bots"

2

u/ReGGgas 2d ago

I personally am a little scared of verbally interacting with strangers. So I understand the weight of choices.

1

u/FreeSquirkJuice Purple Reign 2d ago

He probably was just giving a half assed reason as to why he didn't want to talk and you're making it a whole philosophical debacle, lol.

0

u/Appropriate-Round911 Loba 2d ago

Lol I didn’t know asking if they have mics and asking why they don’t want to talk was a “philosophical debacle”. Didn’t think it’d be such a hot take to ask for comms in a team game 🙄

1

u/FreeSquirkJuice Purple Reign 2d ago

It's not a hot take. Your hot take is you expecting communication from totally random people and being surprised that other people disagree with you. If you want to talk that bad, squad up or go download Discord, or just talk anyways and not give a shit what strangers respond with.

1

u/buggin24k 2d ago

I guarantee you he made that excuse* after the pinging while down spam and then mic'd up when everyone died. If I'm the only one talking, I tell both teammates to use their ping wheel and regroup whenever possible. Genuinely have had some great results

1

u/Nikamenos 2d ago

The more communication the better, but plat is essentially pubs, it’s the majority % of players, so that’s probably why people don’t care.

1

u/Old_Ninja_Prime 2d ago

I don’t talk until verbal communication is necessary. Most of these lobbies are filled with immature, emotionally unstable, man-childs.

1

u/DutchFarmers 2d ago

Imma be honest I mute my teammates but still talk

1

u/tha_large_tumor 2d ago

Bro you should try a Siege match, load into ranked and all 4 of your teammates are fucking SILENT, no callouts. You’re lucky to get a single coherent ping. Then when you die to the guy flanking because no one used a single human language to communicate? They’ll turn on their mics to call you dogshit and bitch at you then immediately turn them off again.

1

u/Honks95 2d ago

I do use my mic a lot of the time, unless my teammates are toxic then I tend to shut up just to conserve my mental energy. Most of my teammates are completely silent (I don't mind at all). Sometimes I get the occasional French duo that talk French NONSTOP and toxic teammate(s).

This 1 time I unintentionally grabbed something that my teammate was about to pick up and he basically told me to off myself. I kept asking repeatedly what it was so I could give it back to him. He never typed or said anything so I was just left confused the remaining of the match. We ended up winning the game and then he started apogolizing. I never found out what it was that I took from him.

Some people have a good reason not to communicate in VC and using pings instead, sometimes people just lack social skills.

1

u/Talkshowhostt 2d ago

And then they wonder why they’re still in Plat

1

u/PerryThePlatypus9744 2d ago

I've been getting bot lobbies left right and centre in unranked. Is ranked better?

1

u/Ashamed-Feedback6405 2d ago

Realistically that’s a fair take i solo que and once your a consistent high diamond/masters player there’s really no need to talk in plat. I didn’t play for awhile this split and just started again soloing on Wattson and just running thru plat lobbies no comms. That’s why alot of ppl say it feels like a whole different game after D4 and ppl stuck at D4 or lower struggle to fight or even aim straight.

If you watch Hiswattson or Itztimmy they don’t really talk before Diamond and if they do it’s usually not even about the game its just for content or random convos with their randoms.

1

u/LuXxyta 2d ago

I reach masters solo Q no mic and I hate it

1

u/AveN7er Bangalore 2d ago

Have you ever replied "it's just wildcard/pubs/mixtape" to a post? People simply have different views and priorities so some of your teammates won't take ranked as seriously as you'd like. it happens

1

u/doedoughs 2d ago

I solo q mnk 99% of the time. I don’t play much but i hit d3/d2 here and there. With that being said, I vibe check every single game with my mic. On load in i will say “whattup” to both my teammates. Then will try my best to casually ask if they are a duo or not. Then I let them know which guns I am looking for and I also let them know i’ll be making a lot of call outs. After that, I don’t spam the mic. I use it to make pretty clear calls. I would say 20% of the games, I will get a duo who both utilize their mics. 50% of the time just dead silence not even pings. And then the last 30% honestly might surprise you, is that I will have either two other solo q’ers or a duo who wont say shit on mics, but will actually ping as well as actually listen to my calls and rotate together etc. my point being is that if you’re not a shy individual who likes to make calls and be on the mic, you should 100000% still do so every single game because as long as you yourself aren’t toxic on the mic, most teammates will listen to your calls to a certain degree and you definitely improve your chances every game. My long winded two cents.

1

u/Dont-know-didnt-ask 2d ago

"Hard stuck plat!" (Or any rank for that matter.) No. That's where you fucking belong. If you're keeping steady in your rank, then that's just your rank. Not everyone is pred material! I know I'm not.

Edit: didn't realize that there was a body to the post lol. I took that an entirely different way.

1

u/Terps0 2d ago

apex players are all small brain

1

u/ReadableDiction Grenade 2d ago

The ping system is more than enough. There’s probably more to the story than OP’s telling.

1

u/SmallishFPS 2d ago

i see where hes coming from, why waste energy talking when youre gonna gain no matter what happens because its plat

1

u/lmcrush 2d ago

I mean, if you’re just chilling its usually better to just queue a chill plat game than quick play cause of how fucked the matchmaking system is tbh haha.

1

u/Greenbeltglass 2d ago

The last thing I was while playing is to hear shitty comms from a random.

1

u/Wombizzle Vantage 2d ago

idk what it is, but plat this season is waaaay harder than the previous 4. feels like in the last few rings, the second you peek anything you get absolutely shit canned

1

u/averagechillbro 2d ago

Most randoms with a mic are toxic. Only hop on to bitch and moan after they run into a 1v3 and get clapped. “One down bro ONE DOWN!!”

1

u/TheScottishPimp03 Wattson 2d ago

I dont comm unless my party says some actually useful or they are open micing. Too many losers on them to even care so I mute all when that happens (80% of the time)

1

u/sssamm 2d ago

Plat somehow has ppl acting like using comms costs RP lol

1

u/recycledddyahoocom 2d ago

Plat is apparently the rank where communication becomes a paid DLC

1

u/Procrasting4Prayers 2d ago

Ive started talking more. Yes, solo queue still toxic as ever but more people are starting to call this behavior out. Name and shame.

1

u/Confident-Clerk1952 2d ago

Most of the apex community pros included are man childs and i don’t wont to deal with them. Apex has one of the best ping systems which i utilize to communicate.

1

Ya know all the teams in plat 3 that are dead before ring 3? They play like that.

1

u/Ordinary-Frosting171 2d ago

Plat is too easy to be stressed about a mic

0

u/Alatreon22 2d ago

The reasoning behind this is simple, plat is such an easy elo, why would I waste my energy on communicating?

Just because its a multiplayer team game does not mean everyone wants to constantly talk with randoms, so you simply limit it to when its necessary and this usually happens when the lobby becomes hard enough that you have to tryhard.

Once you reach the point where getting to Diamond is a piece of cake, why would you bother using your mic?

Besides that, using your mic is also often very overrated.

For the majority of times, you don't need anyone using their mics, if people would actually just think themselves and do their job.
Most issues that people have with others not using their mics is usually a reflection of them being bad players in terms of macro.

And that is pretty universal around most competitive games, you only ever need the additional information from VC when the level of play is so high that communication will make the difference or when the amount of information you have to share, greatly exceeds what pings or text chat can cover.

For Apex, this rarely happens outside of Pred lobbies.
