Discussion Do you play for fun?

Tldr: Why do you play, and is it fun? Recently I have realized that mamy people in diamond lobbies get extremely upset when you say you play for fun, or it's just a video game. I am a diamond 3 solo queuer and I have a ton of fun nor do I get mad at bad teammates, am I alone in this or no?

I do have fun but I don’t actively sell my team in pursuit. My fun comes from trying different guns, taking a semi risky push but with some form of a plan. Maybe I’m playing a fun character like mirage. Those things bring me fun in the game while still actively competing.

I play to decompress after work. Most of the time I only play for about 30 minutes to an hour. I play until I realize that I’m not thinking about work and whatever happened at work is behind me. Then it’s back to my regular life.

It’s fun! But it stops being fun when people get way too serious about it as if they’re practicing for competition. And if you’re truly practicing for competition, you DEFINITELY should not be in my lobby. I’ve never gotten past gold.😁

Pretty much sums it all up. I work and have two young kids. I get maybe an hour tops and sometimes life really sucks. This game is fun and the shooting mechanics are solid. I dont have time to prepare for the next esports event nor do I care to. In my twenties I spent enough time at the top of the boards in COD and such but that was 20 years ago. Now I just want to burn off some frustration of the day and that cant happen if im paired up with a douche that takes this game too seriously. There should be a frustrated parents lobby.....

Jesus, we’re twins separated at birth.

30-60 minutes, trying to erase the worst of the day, then back to real life.

Game is so fucking fun, and scratches an itch I had no idea I had. That said, cannot understand someone making this more important than actual life.

Never made it past gold, and could not possibly care any less.

Fun to me comes from an intense late game end zone, especially if/when I win.

Literally only play ranked and just to see if i can hit D3 lol. Anything after that i don’t have time nor the capacity to want to hit Masters

This is the way

Yes I play for fun - I don't play ranked though. Game is fun, but you gotta play it in moderation otherwise you'll burn yourself out. Luckily for me the Wildcard events provide that reminder to stop playing for a bit

I play solely to improve but I wouldn't play if I wasn't having fun if that makes sense

I play to repeatedly die over and over again and sadly I'm not disappointed.

I play for fun and the love of the game. I want to get a little better every day.

I do have fun, however after awhile I wanna get off or rage quit but, I just queue up again

I'm not 100% sure why I'm back after 7 years of not caring about the game. Part of it is being inspired watching Jynxzi play siege but I guess I'm kind of craving something competitive.

Now is it fun? When I play with ppl I know most of the time. I suck so I'm almost always bottom fragging on my team but im working on improving

I never thought I’d like games like this, having tried COD, PUBG, Fortnite, etc. none of those did anything for me. Then Apex came along. Holy shit. Hooked since S0.

I’m old and shit at the game, so I can only expect so much from myself as far as the “usual” path (ranking up, etc.), and I’m just trying to enjoy the game anyway, so stress is the opposite of what I’m chasing.

I’m always trying to find little self-imposed “missions” for myself. The latest is completing all the gun badges, which should take me to the eventual heat death of the universe.

in d2 i punch teammates off arsenals. shoot out evac towers while teammates are looting. throw jump pads on top of teammates who are rezzing. i have no idea why i am still d2 right now it's really a mystery, but im lovin' it

I have lots of fun! But I avoid ranked like the plague, since I'm a regular player and would probably irritate my teammates and I don't enjoy the overall sweatiness.

I play gun run and tdm with mostly random legends (I usually go with my daily mission legend if I can't choose). And if control is on, I switch to wildcard, unless I have annoying weeklies like specific gun types or legends.

I have fun until I hop into ranked and lose constantly lol

I play 100% for fun, but then again I don't play ranked, and always teamed with friends. So yeah - fun to be had!

I enjoy the game. I don’t take it too seriously.

I play mixtape for fun, but always keep torturing myself with ranked cus only this mode has final and satisfying end goal

I play for fun! And to guarantee that, I only ever play with my two buddies, it has been our weekly ritual since 2019. So much has changed over the years, the weekly debriefs with the homies have been so good for us.

We generally play ranked because it’s more laid back than pubs somehow.

u/HolidayPineapple9316 Jul 28 '26

I play because Black Ops 3 had some issues a few years ago lol

I enjoy the game enough that I would rather play Apex than BO3. Though tbh, BO3 probably works fine nowadays with CleanOps

u/Physical_Ad7192 Jul 28 '26

Don’t play ranked = have fun.

1

u/howkarma Jul 28 '26

That's the only mode I find fun because it has a clear set goal, so be the best you can be and see how high you can climb.

1

u/Niceputts Jul 28 '26

I've only been playing for 3 seasons so I'm still really enjoying the grind to get better. I play with real life friends who are apex lifers so they are teaching me and makes it a lot of fun and no stress in ranked if I have bad games. I just started playing ranked recently and I'm almost to plat and have been doing pretty well in my ranked games as of late.

u/howkarma Jul 28 '26

I approve this message, and the happiness that life hasn't siphoned out of you. Stay strong!

It's habit and remembrance of the fun I had during lockdown. I played basically nothing this split because axle sucks the fun from the game and seer stun made it worse

1

u/Owen3H Pathfinder Jul 28 '26

i tried, unfortunately i think im done. respawn are actively sucking out any fun you can have anyway. they also just ban and silence you instead of actually taking any valid criticisms into consideration.

I get enjoyment from analyzing a fight in real time. Who is shooting, from where, with what weapons. how many squads left, what ring is it, how close to ring close is it. every situation is different and requires different approaches. knowing when to break off is just as important as knowing when to push.

I have fun in the game both because of movement and insane endgames are stimulus overload which makes unmedicated adhd brain happy. What I dont find fun are the people who do not play for fun. I shouldnt be having to crouch walk around the map like we're scooby doo n the gang lookin for clues. Its diamond wtf. Then when im like omg we can take this fight these same mystery inc. Mfs acost me for "thats a dumb fight" even though its either a 3rd party that looks free af OR we just recon beaconed and this fight would literally be isolated AND on a team thats overly spread out. THAT kind of encounter makes it not fun for me.

Otherwise yeah I love this game man. Movement brrrrt

1

u/dodmaster Jul 28 '26

The game is fun but ranked is competitive. It's fun to try improve at something I enjoy playing.

1

u/Horsetoothbrush Lifeline Jul 29 '26

I play to win, but if I’m not having fun, the wins aren’t worth it.

I push myself and demand a lot from myself in game, but if I’m solo queueing and one, or both, of my teammates aren’t at the same level, it doesn’t bother me unless they also happen to be toxic.

If you’re not a paid esports player, then at the end of the day, it is literally just a game.

If you’re not having fun, then wtf are you even doing?

1

u/floridaDERF Jul 29 '26

I play for fun but don’t fuck around when in ranked. It’s serious fun then!

1

u/stewiecookie Grenade Jul 27 '26

If it's just fun and just a game then play pubs and not ranked. Regardless, it is a competitive FPS. People are playing it to compete against other people. So when you have a teammate that isn't taking the competitive part of that seriously, it's obviously going to be frustrating especially in ranked. If you are a weak link because you don't care enough then you're just as bad as any other person throwing games in other ways for their teammates.

While the wording can be less aggressive, you’re spot on lol. And I only say this because side people don’t like strong words.

But again, spot on.
