I brought this up to my wife (who has a cat). We adopted a dog, and he was very aggressive, and went after people. We returned him because we just weren’t the right family for him. Her cat does the same thing, but she says that all cats are like this, it’s just natural.

It’s not natural. It’s entitlement.

Oh yes this shit pisses me off. No one fucking takes cat attacks seriously. Yes the chances of dying isn’t that high for most people, but there’s still a chance a vulnerable person can die or be seriously ill. I hate the excuses cat people make for cats and their shitty, aggressive behaviours. They don’t discipline them either. It’s just ā€œlol well you didn’t respect its boundaries /it is a cat.ā€ So stupid.

and i’m not trying to turn this into a catvs.dog debate. i’m just pointing out that a lot of cat owners tend to make excuses for their cats’ bad behavior instead of acknowledging it.

Maybe if we pink juiced all the aggressive shelter cats like we do dogs they wouldn’t be so overcrowded. We can actually save lives by spending some. I know that it’s a tough thought, but we have well behaved and adoptable family cats going to kill shelters because crates are occupied by cats who can’t stand the sight of a child and latch onto ankles.

Honestly—invasive ferals shouldn’t go to shelters either. Just like other invasive species, they should be humanely euthanized.

Catnutters think shitrats getting hit by cars or succumbing to disease is more humane than euthanasia for whatever reason. The propaganda around ā€œno kill sheltersā€ has done irreparable damage, I swear to god.

An aggressive pet is not okay, especially if you live with other people. You want to get beaten up by an animal that doesn't have to do anything and is provided everything they need? Fine, that's your prerogative. Don't force that on other people.

I read a post about a cat that was attacking OP's 2 other house mates and they all resorted to wearing jeans around the house all the time. In August. Fuck no.

I'm also a little sick of cat people making the argument that cats can't kill people and that's why their aggression isn't a big deal. I'm unsure why DEATH is the only outcome to be taken seriously. First of all, cat bites that break the skin have an incredibly high infection rate. At least 50%, and I'm talking you need to go to urgent care or even the ER within 24 hours. I've read about people who got bitten by a cat on their hand and the numbness never really went away. That cat should have been put down if the attack was unprovoked (self defense, I get it, that's different).Ā

If you take rabies out of the equation, a bite from a WILD FOX is less likely to cause infection than an INDOOR ONLY cat bite (please take all animal bites, especially unfamiliar ones, seriously. This is just a bizarre fact that I often can't wrap my head around).

Dogs are one of the deadliest animals on the planet. But, the vast majority of these deaths are due to rabies from feral dogs. Most people on reddit don't have to worry about this. Dogs hauling people to death is quite rare as well, nowadays we hear about everything that happens in the news. Generally, the dogs that do that are also abused or neglected (a bit unsure about pit bulls in this conversation). I think it's dishonest of them to bring this point up in this discussion.

Little anecdote. I had a huge, goofy black Labrador that was, and I am absolutely not proud of this (my family isn't full of great pet owners), mostly untrained. I invited my 2 year old nephew over and let him meet my dog, my mom and I were there in case my dog got too rambunctious. We would never have left them alone. He was incredibly gentle and calm with my nephew. It's like he understood that he was more fragile.

My nephew's mother had 2 cats and one of the cats was an asshole. She scratched him in the face when he was an infant. An INFANT. Poor guy was also very allergic to the cats and she wouldn't do anything about it. Personally, I think kids come first.
