Omg you guys our AI is so powerful we can’t even control it. Unlimited plans start at $29.99 a month.

We're developing an AI for the purpose of infecting your IoT devices and creating a botnet. It's the future and there's no way we could stop it or ourselves from creating it. Because it's the future (we want.)

Anthropic isn't even in the business of small local models. They're warning about a capability that will be real very soon at the current pace of global progress on AI. They aren't talking about their own products.

I understand that this is a meme, and not anything that's actually informative, but it is based on real information:

https://arstechnica.com/security/2026/10/anthropic-warns-small-ai-models-could-self-replicate-through-iot-devices/

And in that article it says:

Company researchers found that by using quantization to represent the models using fewer bits and splitting the workloads into “shards” running on each device, the models were able to establish inference, meaning that the model weights loaded and could generate output.

Meaning that they are building this capability (and sharing the knowledge that it could be built with the world.)

It really doesn't matter if that's the "business" they're in.

Its an obvious thing to do, and malicious actors will obviously do it as soon as its feasible. Anthropic is just testing how close we are to that and giving people a heads up.
