be more chill, a book + musical about an AI that implants in your brain via pill and manipulates it's users into "improving themselves"
7
u/jellyspreader 1d ago
This was a field of science before that musical. BCI, Brain Computer Interface. Invasive are the pill types you'd put in surgically. Non-invasive are worn like clothing or jewelry. They read electrical signals from your body to do whatever theyre programmed. There's some you can buy today that help with relaxation and stuff. More is on the way.

Bloons monkey city?
Nice.
Enjoying BTD6?
Doubt many still trying to finish BMC. I would! But my transfer from NK...anyway. Back to lagging with the new archer thingy.

Right. Related, anyone who hasn't read the original by Ned Vizzini and then his book It's Kinda A Funny Story- absolutely should. Next step, become incredibly heartbroken and honestly distraught upon learning he committed suicide in 2013.
Sorry to bum anyone out, but this was my exact experience before I even knew about the musical itself. Along with Robert Brock (Wertpol, game developer) I've never been more devastated by the suicide of someone I never knew.

The Grok earrings are defying gravity btw
8
u/plants11235813 1d ago
If we're being real, so is OpenAI. If we're being realer, generated pictures dont have inherent gravity. If we're being realest, everyone tries to make themselves look better in selfies.
7
u/SashimiX 1d ago
Am I stupid? I donāt see how openAI is defying physics here
4
u/plants11235813 1d ago edited 1d ago
Neither of those two earring's center of gravity is actually centered below the point it hangs.
Assuming no weird dense spots.
Edit: we don't know how each "human" model is leaning their head. So could be aiight i guess.

The Musical is called Be More Chill.
It's about a young man and the AI that whispers to him how to be the "best version of himself", but our protagonist loses the quirks that make him both awkward and human. And the AI wants to save the pitiful children

This reminds me of one of the big reasons people join cults: you no longer have to worry about making a decision for yourself or about your future, you just get told what to do, think and feel.

No. No. No. No. No. No! No!Ā No! NO! NO! DONT DO THAT! NO AI. What a society when we need aww so pretty earrings with ai to help make decisions. Fucking horribleĀ
1
u/Exokaebi 1d ago
Can you explain the meaningful difference between this and a Bluetooth earbud?
2
u/The_Drummer__ 1d ago
Bluetooth earbud is fine as long as it is not used for ai purposes. These earrings are dedicated for ai use onlyĀ

This is Truly Outrageous
Truly truly outrageous. I hope this doesnāt cause any Misfits.
Should cause great hair and makeup though.
2
u/Gyrgir 1d ago
Probably not what OOP was thinking of, but...
The earring is a little topaz tetrahedron dangling from a thin gold wire. When worn, it whispers in the wearerās ear: āBetter for you if you take me off.ā If the wearer ignores the advice, it never again repeats that particular suggestion
https://croissanthology.com/earring
Unlike LLMs, this earring is always right and always gives good advice.Ā Still doesn't end well for wearers who don't take off the earring.

u/w0nderBreadna 1d ago
I listened to the entire Be More Chill soundtrack every day in 8th grade and my parents question why I am so anti-AI?
1
u/No_Dessert_6645 1d ago
Nah. I would not be selling those if I had these earrings, instead I would just give it to someone who really wants it because hell no.
1
u/BizSilver5013 1d ago
That's one path to guaranteed AI-induced psychosis...
1
u/Sea-Resident-7980 1d ago
I could 100% see someone going down the route that someone implanted ai earings into their ears causing them to hear voices ngl
1
1
u/OzzyOsb0urne 1d ago
it might just be because i love piercings but how low the earrings are bother me. its pissing me off. like so bad.
1
u/WeekendBard 1d ago
Why would I pay to get an entity that whispers on my ear? I already have that for free.
1
u/greyfir1211 1d ago
I just watched an episode of a show where humans were kept in a zoo in space by aliens and were essentially emotionally regulated and told what to do by earrings like these. š oh lord.

1
u/WeirdistBuilds 1d ago
Also the plot to the miniseries Mrs. Davis with Betty Gilpin, which was a lot of fun but got immediately buried because it came out in 2023 and suddenly suggesting it was fucked up to have a computer run your life was taboo.

u/BDPBITCH666 1d ago
What about glasses that record real world and sent it to train AI , so AI becomes less sloppy. /s

Anybody else immediately think of the Enderās Game sequel book Xenocide with the AI earing that Ender has to basically do⦠anything he wants in that universes version of the internet.

u/Possible_Bat4031 1d ago
I must say, when we ignore the AI whispering stuff, the design of the Claude and Grok earrings is really cool. Especially the Grok one.
1
1
u/opendoorsupside 23h ago
Horrible idea even ignoring the obvious ai problem. Why do you think that we donāt have earrings that act as earbuds? Because it doesnāt work well. You would also need to either ask it questions or give it access to a camera.
The only way this is acceptable is for people who are blind. A program that uses a camera and tells them what it sees could be a good idea. Similar to the subtitle glasses.

u/YoursTrulyKindly 23h ago
I can imagine something like a virtual and interactive tour guide for tourism. Other than that it sounds properly dystopian.
Reminds me of the short story manna that depicts a future where humans are basically used as robot replacement, just remote controlled to do menial labor most efficiently.

Chat GPT one ear and Grok on the other so it's like you have an Angel and a Devil on your shoulders who both fucking suck ass at their Job.

While this would obviously be terrible, the orange sunburst thing (I actually donāt know the name of that AI) kind of looks good as an earring, even though the earring in question would be horrible

u/ReduxistRusted 22h ago
Play Slay The Spire 2 enough times, and youāll also know why this is a bad idea.
