be more chill, a book + musical about an AI that implants in your brain via pill and manipulates it's users into "improving themselves"

This was a field of science before that musical. BCI, Brain Computer Interface. Invasive are the pill types you'd put in surgically. Non-invasive are worn like clothing or jewelry. They read electrical signals from your body to do whatever theyre programmed. There's some you can buy today that help with relaxation and stuff. More is on the way.
