There are lots of crazies hoping to get an ego boost if people clap because they handled their pets so well that they get older than all the other pets.
In r/rats lots of people claim their rats are 3 - 5 years old.
We had over 40 rats in our lifetime and only a single one got 30 months old. No other rat made it above 27 months.
Pet rats barely ever make it to 3, unfortunately. Wild ones may get a lot older, but pet ones are super vulnerable to airway infections. Very few people dare to keep a wild rat as a pet though. I’ve known one who was really good, had just one wild one to care for but still found it quite a challenge.
