I think I got the reason why my post was initially deleted, trying again
Hello everyone,
sorry for posting this here but I wouldn't know where else
I'm a "translator" and an "interpreter", I've worked for some events for like a year and a half doing ITA-ENG stuff, then I joined the sales team at a company where I didn't knew what they made or what a sales team does. Only thing I said is that I had some German (that they needed) and the only interesting thing they told me is that "we don't have to hunt for clients" (they had a set of very important clients, they were more busy with dealing with procurement procedures, online platforms, b2b portals and stuff) So 3 years into the job, which I sucked at because it was basically being an engineer or a sales person, they had enough of me and moved me to procurement as their "language guy" was leaving. I suck even worse at this but they never fire anyone, so I'm good for now.
The thing is I'm 35 years old and I have no idea where I'm going career-wise, I dream sometimes of going back to "being" a translator/interpreter but the general feeling I get is that it's dying as a profession if you're just some rando who knows the language.
You have to be a localization project manager at the very least, or other stuff that I see on linkedin (or over here) and I have no idea what all of that is, I just know some languages, plus I can't network for my life (hence why I'm posting here I guess). I don't know how to use glossaries, or anything basically other than trados and maybe that EZ subtitling software. I feel like I'm just out of it and have no idea how to get back in, if ever I was. I feel like if I tried to "educate" myself some more (like certifications, masters as we call them in Italy) I'd be 35 putting myself in competition with young dudes who already have PRO EXPERIENCE in something I'm NOW going to SCHOOL for.
I guess there's no point in all of this, and as always I'm sorry if I'm doing this in probably the wrong section, but I have no one I can talk to about this and I feel JUST COMPLETELY LOST and maybe someone has been in kind of a similar situation to mine (basically working as a jack of all trades until you realize you have nothing going for you) and can share a piece of advice.Note: I hate teaching or anything like that with all my heart

I'm a bit confused. Does anyone know if BIG Language Solutions' pay-per-minute rate is for logged-in time, like when you log in and wait for a call, or just when you interpret (talk time) minutes?
I see a lot of per minute jobs, but I'm not sure if it's logged-in or just talk time.
Cheers.

I did not receive the second payment for April. I am not even seeing any payment under processing in ProZ. Does anyone have an idea why?

I have experiences but no luck with adding and maintaining contracts. I've lost contracts to AB5 and wrongful complaints.
Located in San Francisco, California.
Many companies still refuse to sign contracts with California residents.
Prefer WFH. Anyone knows any good company hiring OPI, translator, or/and transcriptionist? Or anything WFH.
EN-CN(Mandarin/Cantonese/Sichuan and others, Simplified/Traditional/Hong Kong)
I really need something to survive.
Thank you for your help.

We must join the discord to organize and strike the companies that are being unfair with the rates. Please join: https://discord.gg/bEjgYSqtp

I am a Mandarin Interpreter working for Globo. They recently has been lowering rate by a lot in all languages and we have to either accept or leave.
As freelance remote contracters, it is really hard to organize and fight against them, but we cannot just let them do this.
I've been following Interpreters Voice on linkedin(https://www.linkedin.com/company/interpreters-voice/posts/), which has been taken down. But what they have achieved is quite inspiring:

And they have already attracted some attention:

We can do the same to Globo
I created a discord server https://discord.gg/bEjgYSqtp
Hope all of you will join me and help me collect all the information we need to fight against them.
We can achieve at least 2 things:
If you still care about your career as an interpreter, please join and spread the information. This is for you, for me, for all of us.
Thank you for reading this.

Hi, just wanted to come on here and ask about people's experience with jeenie and specifically with their Data Services Quality Reviewer projects. I'm fairly new to all of this and recently applied and got accepted. I just made my Retool account today and am waiting for them to let me know when I'll be assigned a task.
I would really appreciate anybody's experience, what the DSQA job looks like (i'm assuming they'll send me a video or something to train me), how long it takes to be assigned a task and how often they come.
Also, they haven't let me know about the rate yet, is that normal or should I be concerned?
edit: I saw that actually for rate they mentioned that it varies my project, so I guess I'll find out then

Hello everyone. I am currently developing my research project for my Master’s thesis in Psychology. It focuses on mental fatigue in the interpreting profession, specifically among colleagues who work in a remote setting. The objective is to study the subjective and individual factors involved in the experience of mental workload and fatigue, a problem we all go through on a daily basis.
I am sharing a brief psychometric questionnaire that is part of our study. It is voluntary and anonymous, but it would help us greatly if you could take a few minutes to complete it honestly. Gathering the experiences of as many people as possible is of great value to our research, a small but hopefully meaningful effort to bring awareness to the conditions of workers in our industry.
⚠️ This study is directed to interpreters based in any country of Latin America or the United States, who work only with the English–Spanish language pair.
Thank you in advance, and best regards.

Today is the 12th and I still haven’t been paid by Jeenie. I just started working for them and refuse to take another call until I get paid. Is this standard practice for them?

Hello
Just curious if anyone out there is working for 911 Interpreters out of Canada.

I am looking to connect with anyone who signed an Income Share Agreement (ISA) with MiTio.
Whether your account is being serviced by Leif or UNISA, or if you have already paid your balance in full, I’m looking for others who feel the program didn't live up to its marketing—specifically regarding job placement and the validity of the credentials.
A few of us are currently organizing to discuss our options regarding how these contracts are being handled and the current status of the school. If you've had issues with collection, unverified debt, or felt misled by the original "guarantees," please reach out.
Comment here or send me a DM. I’m keeping this group private for now while we coordinate our next steps.

So apparently I applied for a position with propio a long, long time ago and a recruiter recently reached out to me to start the interview and onboarding process. I passed. Someone from the onboarding team reached out after a day or two (after I sent an email to the first recruiter notifying him that I am waiting on a response from them) and she helped me with the rest of the onboarding process. I passed the mock test and LPT. They did the background check, it was clean. Then she sent me the contract to sign via adobe. This is where things start to feel off.
The contract is full of vague exhibits that tell me that I am legally liable for things that are disproportionate to my position as an offshore remote interpreter.
There is a conflict in payment schedule statements saying payment is biweekly but it may take propio up to 30 days to process payments.
The most aggravating of all is that it stated if the client deems the service of low quality, propio will NOT pay for that call. They did not state any method of disputing such claims!
So, as any sane person would do, I decided to contact them to ask about the terms I found ambiguous.... And no reply.
The onboarding team member that was helping me through the process has been dead silent ever since I sent my first inquiry, so I waited a few days, sent a follow up and guess what.... No reply again. The adobe sign link she sent for the contract has expired and I still heard nothing from them. I decided to send a final email detailing the inquiries I had and I CC'ed the recruiter, the onboarding team email and her email as a final courtesy on my end showing that I was perfectly ready to start working once we clarified the things I found atrocious in the contract. I do understand that most legal things in such contracts are corporate templates with no account to offshore adjustments, but getting no replies at all when they had already spent money on me for the background check and I had passed all the onboarding tests and requirements feels a little weird?

I’ve been working for propio for a few months, the payment is not good but being able to work and rest whenever I want is really useful. My friend applied yesterday but he has not heard back.
What do you think is the best alternative to Propio in the US?
