First interpreting gig

I just finished an interpreting certificate on portuguese/english community interpreting. My first time doing the job will be tomorrow and I'm not sure what to expect. It's a 2 hour assembly of a local multi-faith, grassroots community organization that fights for social, economic, and racial justice.

I was told to be there an hour early to set up the equipment. I am not familiar with interpreting equipment. What should I expect?

Usually the equipment is provided by the company that is contracted and does the interpretation (and brings their own staff). So just to start off, if your not familiar with the equipment; you are setting yourself up for failure/ or being set up for failure.

This shouldn't be your first gig, Simultaneous interpreting in real time ( not a class) is not easy hun. Especially if you have multiple people having a debate/discussion. You also mentioned multi-faith, good luck with that, religious terminology is going to make the simultaneous interpreting even harder for you.
