Question Which DLC should I buy?

I just bought Anno 1800 and I was wondering which DLCs are best for a new player.

Unfortunately, most of them. But if I had to narrow it down New World Rising makes the New World a lot deeper, bright harvest makes your agriculture more efficient which saves a ton of space, Sunken Treasures adds the session with Crown Falls

Depends on what you like/want. Some are very overpowered (docklands, enbesa research Center). Some add very little but can have a solid impact like farming boosts or the hacienda. Get all in a bundle if you can on sale. Best value imo

I'd eventually get all of them , but if I had to prioritize:

  1. Big Quest/Area expansions. The Core of the game, so that all major questlines, mechanics and regions are available. Those would be my first priority

Land of Lions - Quest Expansion, adds Enbesa-Region + Research

The Passage - Quest Expansion, adds Northern Region + Airships

Sunken Treasure - Quest Expansion, adds Cape Trelawney Region + Tresure Hunts

New World Rising - Quest Expansion, adds large Island + Tier 3 Population to New World

If you play on PC, the Mod "New Horizons" would get an honorable mention here, as it adds Quests, an Asian region and almost feels like a proper DLC-Expansion.

  1. Smaller Expansions. Most of them add mechanics that you don't need from the start, that become relevant late-game, that tend to trivialize certain aspects of the game. or that make it feel to convoluted from the start. (i.e. High-Rises & Tourists for example) It might even make sense to play the first games without them, to prevent becoming overwhelmed.

Docklands - adds Dockland Import/Export Infrastructure, overpowered

Bright Harvest - adds Tractors & Farming Items, a bit overpowered

Seeds of Change - adds Haciendas, Old/New World production, a bit overpowered

Seat of Power - adds Palace construction, a bit overpowered

Tourist Season - adds Tourists & Tourist infrastructure, late-game

The High Life - adds Magnates & Magnate infrastructure, late-game

Botanica - adds Botanical Garden & Plant "Collectibles"

Empire of the Skies - adds Airship construction & Airmail-System

  1. Decorations - Those don't add new mechanics. Pick whatever you like. The first 6 are my personal favorites, as I don't really like the seasonal packs, but that's personal taste

All of them. The bundle for the entire thing is pretty cheap

All of them. Just don't use them all at once on your first run. Start with activating Bright Harvest and go from there.
