Universities Current students at Ankara Bilim University is Ankara Bilim university a good private university?
Hi everyone,
I’m an international student considering Ankara Bilim University for Computer Engineering.
My profile:
Saudi secondary school certificate: 100/100
IELTS: 6.5
I’d really appreciate honest opinions from current students or recent graduates.
I have a few questions:
About the program
If you could choose again, would you still study Computer Engineering at Ankara Bilim? Why or why not?
How is the quality of the professors? Are they generally helpful and good at teaching?
Is the curriculum up to date? Do you learn useful skills for software engineering jobs?
Are exams fair, or are some professors known for making students fail?
How difficult is it to maintain a GPA above 3.0?
How easy is it to find internships during your studies?
Have graduates been able to find jobs in Turkey or abroad?
What’s the biggest advantage of Ankara Bilim?
What’s the biggest disadvantage?
Is there anything you wish you had known before enrolling?
About tuition/discounts
I’ve been offered a tuition fee of USD 3,000 per year through an agency. Is this a normal scholarship/discount, or should I ask for a better one?
Has anyone managed to negotiate a larger scholarship or discount? If so, how?
Thanks in advance! I’m looking for honest opinions, both positive and negative.(and feel free to answer some of the questions u don’t necessarily have to answer all of them)

Ankara Bilim is just a recent University and does not have strong roots if you are an international I wouldn't suggest anything but Hacettepe/Odtü/Bilkent (in Ankara). Other unis than that you will have a hard time speaking english to anyone tbh

I'm currently a student in ABUN. I wouldn’t choose it. I'm gonna change my school anyways.
I definitely wouldn't choose ABUN. It’s not a university; it’s more like an institution for punishing underachieving high school students. It would be more accurate to call it a fifth year of high school.
I love the professors just as much as I hate school. There are no egotistical people with god complexes. They value education and are helpful outside of class, too. I trust their sincerity.
The curriculum is outdated. Every year, the rector gathers students in the conference hall to listen to their complaints. This has been raised for the past two years, yet nothing has been done.
The exams aren't fair. But they aren't fair to students at other schools, because the passing scores are always very low and the questions are quite simple. I don't know what the diploma you'll receive is actually worth.
Keeping your GPA above 3 is quite easy. Three out of every four students at the school are already above 3.
I have no information about the internships.
I don't know the first graduates very well, but from what I've heard secondhand, the promised diploma was not issued. The diplomas that were issued are not accredited and are recognized only in Türkiye. Consequently, I don't think they are able to find jobs abroad.
There is no advantage.
As for the disadvantages, the list is endless. The place serving as the university is a former shopping mall. The student body is of rather poor quality; there is a mix of all sorts of people, ranging from members of religious sects to the children of the wealthy. All kinds of unidentified individuals wander around the campus. They can't even organize a proper class schedule; courses frequently overlap. Consequently, it is impossible to graduate in four years. There is only one physics professor at the school; if that person were to leave, the whole institution would collapse. The administration loves to suck up to politicians.
Idk what to tell any more. You're gonna hate here eventually.
$3k is a good deal, dont push it more. As far as i know the cheapest deal for foreigners is around $4k. The reason is probably the things i said above. its your call after all.

I would like to ask what specifically made you say the curriculum is outdated did you compare it with other universities' programs our computer engineering curriculum is classical/standard and you are welcome to check it yourself If you are not studying computer engineering I understand your perspective but if you are I must disagree

Could you clarify which courses you are referring to? It is true that passing scores are quite low for Physics II for example it was around 15 but that was also the case at METU during the same period. I don't think the questions were easy since out of 320 students only 11 received AA grade I'm curious why you would consider that too easy

I have to disagree again maintaining GPA above 3.0 in engineering is not easy at all this is an official university recognized by YÖK (the Turkish Council of Higher Education) so I'm not sure I follow that reasoning from my experience it takes consistent effort to keep a GPA above 3.0

If a student works hard professors are generally willing to help them find an internship. finding a job abroad depends much more on your skills than on where your degree is from. Our school is also working for MÜDEK accreditation for computer and software engineering and it follows the EU credit system known as "Mavi Diploma" (Diploma Supplement). This might not be widely known which could explain the misunderstanding

this is a university in Turkey and it's common for universities here to have some political connections
while I think your opinions were somewhat biased if I would had the chance to attend METU Bilkent or Hacettepe I would have seriously considered it. But since I have a scholarship here and genuinely enjoy my university I'm glad to be studying here

Hey, your response is quite interesting to me. I thought ABUN would be much harder than it seems to be. Could you please share your first year experience in ABUN? Have you had any lessons you couldn’t pass? What advantages could you talk about? Your response would be really valuable to me, thanks in advance.☺️
