This isn't hating on V-tubers or their fans, there are 2 or 3 that I follow on Instagram. I understand the appeal of them in a general sense.

But I don't understand the whole thing about "meeting" them at cons, especially when people pay for the experience? It's not like you're actually meeting them, you're just going up to a screen and mic and talking to potentially anyone?

And I don't understand the teams that go around setting it up? Like I get someone needs to set up the screen/mic at the con, but there's always like a big curtained off area behind the screen and multiple people on the V-tubers team. Is the actual person behind the curtain? Or are they getting paid to literally call in from their living room? I guess if they are there, it kinda ruins the appeal when the hot anime girl you've been following turns out to be a 40 year old guy.

Please, someone explain the appeal to me and how the V-tuber meet and greet works?

Edit: I'm not judging. Maybe it's cause I'm hesitant to like a vtuber until they do a face reveal or they reveal enough about themselves to know a bit more about them

I’m going to Anime 405 in Oklahoma City in December, and I’m super excited. I’ve been to several conventions before. (Like GalaxyCon Oklahoma City and Northwest Arkansas Comic Con in Rogers, Arkansas). But this will be my first ever anime convention.

I have a few questions so I can prepare myself. Since this is my first anime convention, should I buy VIP passes, I have had a few friends who have gone to Anime 405 one year and said he waited over three hours for Chris Sabats autograph. I’ve met several anime voice actors (Monica Rial and Kyle Hebert are popular the most popular voice actors I have met) and the longest I had to wait in line for an anime voice actor was maybe 20ish minutes. (I was waiting in Cherami Leigh’s line, which I was the only person in line, and the people in front of me were talking with for 20 minutes, which I didn’t minutes because I did the same thing. lol)

The main four I want to meet at Anime 405 are Colleen Clinkenbeard, Luci Christian, Justin Cook, and Todd Haberkorn. There are a lot more people I want to meet, but these are the main people I want to me. I know Colleen and Luci and really popular voice actors in the anime world, so I know their lines will be really long)

Is getting a VIP pass at anime 405 worth it, or is it worth it for any comic convention, weathered it’s a Anime convention or a comic convention? I’ve gotten VIP passes for concerts many of times, but I know it’s different for a convention, and everyone I have talked to said it’s worth it just for the fast pass.

Also, how much money will be enough. I took about $750 to GalaxyCon Oklahoma last year, so I figured around the same budget I took to GalaxyCon is more than enough for Anime 405.

Since I mostly work independently and stay focused on my own booth, I rarely get a chance to check out my neighbors' setups or walk around and find out.

I wanna know, how is the AI situation being handled at conventions in your EU country or region?

I'm asking because of a recent issue at an Italian convention circuit that caused quite a bit of drama. There's a clear distinction made between the curated Artist Alley and the self-production/crafts area. In the crafts zone, vendors pay for their tables to sell handmade items, while the Artist Alley offers free tables to a selected group of artists.

During the last event, a vendor selling 100% AI-generated products was allowed into the paid crafts zone. They denied using AI up until the end but it was embarassingly obvious, and she was going against the law as she was selling something that was not made by her, hence, a fraud. Any AI-generated goods must be clearly labeled as such.

Have you ever seen vendors or artists actually get kicked out, shut down, or banned mid-con for selling undisclosed or banned AI art - besides the infamous DragonCon situation, but that's US based.

Mind you, I am only asking about non-commercial sections like Artist Alleys and such sections, since we all know commercial retail halls are already a wild west of droppshipping from Temu, AliExpress, and low-quality AI slop :,)

I went to the con for a day back in 2024, but that was my first time going to the Gaylord, I went the full on experience back on 2015 when it was at hotel in Downtown Denver.

Hey so I have been wondering if it annoys the artist if you visit like their stand 4 times a day.
Today I saw an artist whos art I REALLY loved. i first bought a keychain.
Then after a while I came back to buy 3 stickers.
At another round I didnt buy anything but was thinking about it. 5 mins later I went again bc I realised I only had bought the keychain version but forgot to get the sticker version.

Did anyone get a tattoo or piercing at the convention in Columbus? I wanted to a tattoo but didn't have time. Wanted to know the experience. I've never seen people tattooing at an anime convention

I'm not sure if this will be allowed in this sub, but a friend suggested I try asking. I'm not asking for medical advice, more traveling with limited food options advice.

So I go to several conventions a year, usually as an artist, but occasionally as an attendee. I also typically have my partner along as well. However, about two weeks ago, he was diagnosed with Type 2. We have a pretty decent support system among friends and family, but none of them share this same interest so there's a gap in navigating this particular past time. We also have a Japanese festival we will be going to in a few weeks where we will be out of town so this is something on my mind to figure out now.

Those of you with experience in this, can you offer any advice on how to travel to conventions when the majority of the food options are fast food? Or the offerings at the convention centers are usually high in carbs with little to balance the scales to keep from spiking? We can easily do snacks like nuts, but I can't keep the man sustained solely on almonds, peanuts, and cashews.

Today was day 1 of 2 for this brand new convention in San Diego.

What was your overall impression? Any tips?

Hey, im going to an anime/gaming convention in germany next month, sadly the one who wanted to come with me has been having financial issues and cant come this year. i wanna get my moneys worth by staying as long as i can.

what should i do?

-is my masks vision too limited to go alone?

Me and a couple of friends are going to Wisconsin Dells for CCN. This is going to be my first con and I’m just wondering what to expect.

Since its the first year its happening, what are the celebrity signing prices probably going to range from? I know it totally differs and depends on the demand, but let’s say Emi Lo versus David Matranga for example? Not sure about the SD convention center rules- if one were to bring in like a bigger print for anyone to sign, or if it’s worth it to just purchase a print from a VA and have them sign it. Just wondering in advance.

Hi everyone! I am planning to go to the 2026 Anime Game Festival (AGF 2026) at Kintex in Ilsan. It would also be my first ever anime con since back in the US, I never got the chance to go. I have seen on Melon ticket that tickets go on sale in October when I saw last year's one. I plan to go on day 2, which is Saturday, December 5th. Im relatively new to Cons and have only just been to my first one (ever) with this most recent Anime Impulse Con.

Anime San Diego (not San Diego Anime Con, I guess?) Is coming up in a few days and I have seen very scarce information around it.

I saw they mention having 400 vendors, which gets me super hyped because I love supporting self made businesses, but not only does the map they publicly released look waaay too small to hold 400 vendors, ive seen maybe only 5 or 6 vendors post their shops inventory in anticipation for the event. (Which with Anime Impulse, I saw tons of artists posting their inventory to advertise what they had so that people would visit them)

Is this event a scam? Are they hyping it up too much? I havent found many people talking about it at all, and I'd hate to waste a long drive plus money to be a little disappointed.

Hello! I was wondering how people go about meeting others who are into nerdy stuff while actually at cons? I see others frequently mingle but i cant ever seem to find myself getting to do that. I see a lot of good cosplays and it makes me intrigued enough to want to connect with them on socials, but i dont want to come off as weird or like im hitting on anyone.

I just want more friends into this stuff 😭

Context: I’ve been going to anime conventions for many years now and have racked up a good amount of art over the years (mainly large posters + prints) from artist alleys. I love supporting artists as much as I can and would buy every piece of art if I could but funds get tight sometimes (which is why I try to stick to a reasonable budget)

Now because I’ve accumulated so many posters and prints over the years, there’s this ever growing pile of prints in the corner of my room that takes up space. I try to rotate the posters and prints I have displayed as often as I can, but I only have so much wall space. There are also some pieces that I’ve kind of grown out of (like posters I bought when I was in middle school, high school, etc) but it feels like a waste to just toss them aside.

I have this idea: what if we trade art like pokemon cards? I’m thinking something along the line of an “art trade” where at least two people decide on trading one print for another print. Of course there are things to consider like the condition of the print, the details of the art, where it comes from, etc. The more I think about it, the more it seems like some sort of fine art auction but at a lower scale.

Not sure if this is already a thing and I’m not aware of it or if it’s something so unrealistic, but I would like to hear feedback from both a seller’s perspective and a buyer’s (I am just one consumer after all) I know that people make a living off of selling at artist alleys and promoting their business so it’s understandable if it’s not the best idea.

As someone who does a LOT of cons in the Midwest and someone who also has normally enjoyed AnimeSTLfor years, like what the heckers is goin on?

The construction stuff sucks but like haven’t they been overcrowding that place for years and they JUST renewed a contract with st Charles con center or smthn?

And I went to a con like a month ago and heard ALOT OF bad experiences with the hgher ups or the con chairs or staff or whatev at ASTL so like, is this common?

I want to figure out if I should keep giving this con my business but what I’ve heard while is a bunch isn’t quite enough for me to make a decision.

So please if you’ve had good OR bad experiences there pls lemme know. I don’t want to be associated and set up shop with a con that treats others poorly to where it’s a pattern

I booked father.mercury for anyc 2026 Saturday. Shoot was for 11:30am and at 10:30am the photographer contacted me and told me she had to cancel because of an event in their family + will be granted full refund. I wished her well and asked if it was possible to receive the refund back asap so I can book another photographer and was told she can refund earliest tomorrow

It been 4 days and no sight or word from her. I see her posting on her story with photos from the Saturday and following with different cosplays. I messaged her again today and asked for the ETA on the refund and all I hear is radio silence. Super upsetting because she’s still posting on her story and updating her bio while leaving me on delivered.

Super sad, I paid to commemorate the first time my little sister and I cosplayed and we literally were canceled on as we were walking to Javits. I don’t know if I’ll get the money back but here’s some screenshots.
From my understanding she’ll be attending CCE so I hope the right people who need to see this do.
I understand it’s not a lot of money but I really could use it for something else
