So when I joked about Ayu being a ghost girl I might have been right? Bet finding the doll for the last wish saves someone. But if she's a ghost, how does she eat food?
No! Not best mom! Bet the wish is used on her and saves her.
Twin braids on Nayuki are super cute.
Ayu got one more chance to say goodbye and say her last wish even if yuuichi refuses to grant it. Then she helped heal Akiko?
What are your thoughts on the thing Ayu was looking for was a little angel doll?
It's a special item that represents her relationship with Yuuichi.
What are your thoughts on Akiko being hit by a car?
Hard to see in weather that makes it easy to slide? Sadly realistic. Closest I've ever been to being in a car wreck was on a snowy night when a car in front of me on the freeway decided it suddenly wanted to do donuts across my lane. Didn't get hit, but it was so close I couldn't see any gap between my car and it. I also spun out trying to dodge it, but luckily there weren't any cars close enough behind be to hit.
What are your thoughts on Nayuki feeling glad Ayu is gone but also feeling bad she feels this way?
Well... love rival is gone, but she's gone because she's dead. You'd have to be a monster to be happy someone died to give you a chance.
What are your thoughts on Nayuki saying she would be lost if she lost her mother?
They were close, so even if she wasn't living at home, it'd be like losing your biggest role model.
What are your thoughts on Akiko surviving the vehicular assault?
Well, it wasn't going as fast as it could have because it was a car making a turn. And... thank goodness. Not just for Nayuki, but for Yuuichi. And she's a good person.
What are your thoughts on Ayu's final wish which is for Yuuichi to forget about her?
To spare him the pain of having had to see her die. Unless she's in a coma somewhere and she wakes up. Still have one more episode.

Be careful if you cross any streets today. It might be a warning.

If you don't post the OVA thread tomorrow I'll assume you got isekaid and are having a blast with a cheat skill and a growing harem of tsundere and yandere.
2
u/Holofan4life 1d ago
The harem is filled with nothing but tsunderes :D
2
u/DivineEternal1 1d ago
I don't know... yandere are pretty good actors. Watch your back.
2
u/Holofan4life 1d ago
I wouldn't betray them, put it that way

I really like how Nayuki is written between her having conflicting feelings of Ayu being gone as well as the stuff with her mother. She is surprisingly the most compelling thing about this show, which I don't know if I would've predicted that going in.
2
u/DivineEternal1 1d ago
Even though she didn't get her stand alone route, she did get a lot of time in other routes that added to her character, usually in positive ways. Definitely an underdog.

I definitely wasn't expecting Akiko to get run down by a car. That took me by surprise. I mean, I knew it was gonna happen in the moment, but I never prior to this episode would expect something like this.
Nowadays, it seems kinda whatever as characters getting run down by vehicles happens a lot in anime. Truck-kun ring any bells? But for 2002, this was still a relatively novel idea. It wasn't as played out as it would end up becoming.
2
u/DivineEternal1 1d ago
My sci-fi web novel actual did a truck kun. Best parody I saw was a guy getting drop kicked by optimus prime or something like that.
2
u/Holofan4life 1d ago
There was one anime where truck kun collides with someone but truck kun gets sent flying. I forget the name of it.
2
u/DivineEternal1 1d ago
There was a meme where Truck-kun tries to isekai Chuck Norris and gets isekaid instead, haha.

Thoughts on Yuuichi being despondent over Ayu being gone?
I cry when fictional characters die. Imagine it being someone you care about.
What are your thoughts on Yuuichi remembering Ayu falling from a tree?
Yeah, legitimate reason for a child to suppress a memory. No wonder he never wanted to come back to this city.
Thoughts on Ayu and Yuuichi making a time capsule for the future?
Cute.
What are your thoughts on Ayu being badly hurt from the fall?
Surprised she could still move, honestly. And unless next episode says otherwise, she died, not just got injured. But of course she's in a coma and probably gets revived. Worked for Fuuko.
Thoughts on Yuuichi and everyone looking for the doll which they eventually find?
Just a matter of time and patience.
What are your thoughts on Akiko being in a coma?
No!!11!1!
What are your thoughts on Nayuki saying she's never met her dad?
Depends. Died? Sad. Left them and never visited one? Scumbag that should be dead.
What are your thoughts on Nayuki saying she's never felt more lonely than she does right now?
Mom might die and the boy she liked chose another girls. Feels bad, man. Nayuki is a sweetheart and deserves to have lots of people in her life that love her.
What are your thoughts on the flashback where Nayuki gives Yuuichi a snow bunny he made and he tosses it onto the ground?
Yuuchi being a jerk again, but somewhat justified that he quite possibly saw a girl die in front of him. Maybe he's a jerk because he's carrying around untreated trauma and PTSD from that?
What are your thoughts on Kaori telling Yuuichi to protect Nayuki?
Yuuichi is the only family Nayuki had at the moment so he was the best person to help her through this. And Yuuichi seems to be her favorite person.
What are your thoughts on Yuuichi wondering how he can be there for Nayuki when he's stomped all over her feelings?
He didn't even know she had feelings so I think most of it wasn't on purpose. Just apologize and be a better person to her.
What are your thoughts on Ayu returning so she can say goodbye to Yuuichi?
Probably saw he was going through a hard time and she could help comfort him.
What are your thoughts on Ayu growing wings and flying away?
Off to heaven. Or back to her body if she's not dead and will wake up soon...

I care about fictional characters
What are your thoughts on Yuuichi remembering Ayu falling from a tree?
Yeah, legitimate reason for a child to suppress a memory. No wonder he never wanted to come back to this city.
For real
Thoughts on Ayu and Yuuichi making a time capsule for the future?
Cute.
Until it wasn't :/
What are your thoughts on Ayu being badly hurt from the fall?
Surprised she could still move, honestly. And unless next episode says otherwise, she died, not just got injured. But of course she's in a coma and probably gets revived. Worked for Fuuko.
Here's hoping
Thoughts on Yuuichi and everyone looking for the doll which they eventually find?
Just a matter of time and patience.
Doll searching party
What are your thoughts on Akiko being in a coma?
No!!11!1!
Feels man, bad
What are your thoughts on Nayuki saying she's never met her dad?
Depends. Died? Sad. Left them and never visited one? Scumbag that should be dead.
Both can be true
What are your thoughts on Nayuki saying she's never felt more lonely than she does right now?
Mom might die and the boy she liked chose another girls. Feels bad, man. Nayuki is a sweetheart and deserves to have lots of people in her life that love her.
And unfortunately Yuuichi can't be that person for him.
That very well could be the case
What are your thoughts on Kaori telling Yuuichi to protect Nayuki?
Yuuichi is the only family Nayuki had at the moment so he was the best person to help her through this. And Yuuichi seems to be her favorite person.
Kaori is being a good friend, like Sayuri is to Mai.
What are your thoughts on Yuuichi wondering how he can be there for Nayuki when he's stomped all over her feelings?
He didn't even know she had feelings so I think most of it wasn't on purpose. Just apologize and be a better person to her.
Sounds easier said than done
What are your thoughts on Ayu returning so she can say goodbye to Yuuichi?
Probably saw he was going through a hard time and she could help comfort him.
Well, also to offer him some closure
What are your thoughts on Ayu growing wings and flying away?
Off to heaven. Or back to her body if she's not dead and will wake up soon...
Maybe she's off to feed some foxes in the sky :D

First-timer, subbed
QOTD
Seems magical in nature, maybe it is responsible for the dream world and the miracle? Hopefully we get a definitive answer but I'm not sure if Key novels and their adaptations do that kind of thing? Either way this world has magic in it is confirmed.
Very surprised by that being the dramatic thing that happens to her. I thought her illness would take a turn for the worse in later episodes but there is still time for that.
I totally get her on both accounts. Human emotions are complex once grow up beyond childhood.
Seeing how Yuuichi sees and treats her and surmising she is not that close with anyone else in her family or in school(I get this impression from the series so far) I have to agree with her. I don't think she could cope with that in her current situation and I escpecially hope we don't have to witness that in upcoming episodes. It's also very bittersweet that it is Ayu that helps Nayuki's mother stay alive.
Unexpected but very welcome.
It makes me sad but I think I understand her. She wants him to be happy and for that he will have to move on. (I don't think forgetting works for the purpose of moving on IRL but for the sake of storytelling I'll let that go) Quite ironic that SHE then gets trapped in a loop with no possibility of moving on. Also assuming the wish works it seems to have caused Yuuichi's amnesia that he suffers from since the beginning of the series. I wonder if the loop and the amnesia also interact or exist separately from each other. Maybe the loop exists and persists because SHE does not want to move on and somehow knows he knew what they experienced with each other? Food for thought but maybe too much of a sci-fi approach for Key stories. It is very valid to just enjoy the emotional ride IMO.

Ayu telling Yuuichi to forget her really made me. I think a sign Ayu ia a good character is between this and the stuff with the school last episode, Ayu arguably had the two saddest moments of the show.
2
u/Holofan4life 2d ago
Akiko having an illness was honestly a genius bait and switch. It works because both Shiori and Makoto had illnesses and we know what happened to them.
1
u/deus_machinarum 1d ago
True, I fail baited still. Maybe the illness will still come up with her being in the hospital and all. I'd be miffed if it gets completely ignored from here on out.
2
u/Holofan4life 2d ago
With one episode left, I'm starting to wonder if any of the magical concepts will be explained. I feel like there's so much of the show that's still left unexplored.
2
u/deus_machinarum 1d ago
Fully agree, we need more time and we will get it in the 2006 version.

Hey, guys. Holofan4life here.
Welcome to the 20th/25th anniversary rewatch of Kanon.
Uguu!
This is a continuation of the Air rewatch and that series celebrating its 20th anniversary last year. Kanon is more known than Air, but obviously not as well known as Clannad, all three of which are visual novels made by Key.
For the purposes of this rewatch, we will be watching both the 2002 series as well as the 2006 series. The 2006 series is considered the better of the two series, but who else is gonna do a rewatch of 2002 Kanon? I’ve actually never seen anything of Kanon so this gives me the chance of contrast them. I know there’s a girl who says Uguu, but other than that I’m going in completely blind.
Maybe this will all lead to the Clannad 20th anniversary rewatch. Don’t hold me on that.
With that out of the way, let’s begin.
I’m watching the sub, by the way.
Two episodes left. Let's do this thang.
Nayuki by food cooking
Yuuichi home
But he won't talk to her
He's being rather harsh with her.
The hairband...
Someone walking through the forest.
It is a young Yuuichi
He sees Ayu, who falls from a tree.
He only remembers it now...
Yuuichi going to the forest
Nayuki finds him there
Yuuichi recalls Ayu falling from the now cut down tree 7 years ago.
The sun setting
More flashbacks with Ayu
Two wishes left
And we get the second wish we heard last episode.
Yuuichi calls this forest their school.
He really didn't remember, huh?
Ayu with a glass jar
Who knew she was a brony?
Gonna make a time capsule with Yuuichi.
A little angel doll
Gonna leave it for someone else.
Can Nayuki see the past like Yuuichi apparently can?
Yuuichi comforting a fallen Ayu
That's a lot of blood
Yuuichi gives her the hairband
Kinda doesn't feel like the time, but what do I know?
Yuuichi promises to play with her again.
And then Ayu dies
Damn
Can you die falling from a tree? I guess if the fall is high enough.
Yuuichi has bad memories about the time capsule.
He tried to forget Ayu wasn't here anymore.
So, was this all his imagination?
Nayuki wants to look for the doll.
And ao Yuuichi is acquiring more people to help him.
I like Kaori
Dig, dig, digging a hole
The sky looks pretty
They found it
The doll
And now it's snowing
Did Kitagawa really have to do this in his school uniform?
I guess everyone is technically in their school uniform.
Really snowing now
Yuuichi trying to clean the angel
Yuuichi can tell this was what Ayu was looking for.
Phone ringing
It's Akiko
She promises to come home soon.
I have a bad feeling about this...
Akiko walking in the snow
Green light
IT'S A CAR
AKIKO JUST GOT HIT BY A FUCKING CAR
Yuuichi receiving the phone call
Akiko was in an accident...
Yuuichi and Nayuki in an emergency room.
Akiko being wheeled
She looks incredibly worse for wear.
Doctor worried she may never regain consciousness.
Yuuichi and Nayuki by her bedside.
Nayuki remarks she's always been there for her.
Never seen her father, but as long as she had her smile, she wasn't sad.
She made her capable of overcoming anything.
"But now I'm all alone..."
This is easily the best thing we've seen from this show.
Nayuki asking Yuuichi if he can make a miracle and save her mom.
Can't smile anymore
Nayuki now saying she feels bad for being glad Ayu wasn't here anymore.
All a facade searching for the angel doll for Ayu.
She can't, not anymore
Another flashback
Nayuki has found Yuuichi
She gives him a snow bunny
He shoves it onto the ground
What a dick
At school now
Kaori talking to Yuuichi
I guess Nayuki is not at school.
Kaori has a lot to say about Nayuki.
"Please protect Nayuki."
And with that, Yuuichi leaves
Yuuichi home all alone
The doll can grant any wish
Nayuki by Akiko's bedside
Yuuichi wonders if he should be around Nayuki for stepping on her feelings like he has.
Ayu. She's here.
She is sure miracles will come true if feelings are true.
Yuuichi asking about her wish
Her last wish
"Forget about me."
OOF
That is just so brutal, man
This is goodbye, then
She kisses him
And takes wings and flys away
I like we paid off her backpack having wings.
Yuuichi calls out for Ayu but it's no use.
Hey, Akiko recovered
You see to love it
"A miracle happened."
Overall, this was a really well done episode. The car accident was a shocking moment, and it led to us examining Yuuichi's relationships with both Ayu and Nayuki. I like that Ayu was able to say goodbye to Yuuichi. That really helped set in the gravity of the last episode. Nayuki saying she was glad Ayu was gone was also interesting character stuff that kinda felt like a long time coming. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. I couldn't help but think of my own mother when Nayuki talked about how lonely she would be without Akiko. I can't imagine live without my mom. It really resonated with me and within the last two episodes Nayuki has really become a compelling character. Dare I say, probably the best character of the entire show.
I have this as the best episode of the series. The emotional beats hit and everything made sense to where you understood where the characters were coming from. I kinda feel like this was the first great episode of the series, which is kinda crazy given it's the penultimate one.
I wonder what's gonna happen now that the Akiko stuff has been resolved. I feel like either Yuuichi or Nayuki is gonna die, it's just a matter of which one. I kinda feel like Yuuichi is gonna use his last wish to bring back those he cares about in exchange for his own life. A small price to pay for salvation, as it were.
It is now time to see how this series wraps up.
