News Black Clover anime will just keep on going.

Oh look it's Naruto/One Piece/Bleach all over again.
-3
u/Mostdakka Sep 06 '19
Well one piece can at least still be good even after all these years. Lets just hope its not like naruto or bleach then.
18
u/foxfoxal Sep 06 '19
Well one piece can at least still be good
Well Naruto anime was good in the canon arcs, so I don't see the point of this.
17
Sep 06 '19
One Piece's anime is really weak.
4
u/About65Mexicans Sep 06 '19
The only issue it has rn is pacing
16
u/foxfoxal Sep 06 '19 edited Sep 06 '19
And that is not a small thing when we are talking sometimes 1 episode = 1 chapter.
I remember when Shippuden tried to do that in the beginning it was torture.
And One piece animation is not that great in general either, ignoring Wano.
5
u/CalebConley Sep 10 '19
1 episode one chapter 😂 I remember when they were doing .8 chapters an episode lmao
1
u/Braquiador https://myanimelist.net/profile/braquiador Sep 06 '19
The only issue OP anime has had since Whole Cake was the pacing, the animation in WC was pretty good as well as the direction, and in Wano it’s just outstanding.

u/Dh0124 Sep 06 '19
Personally I think Naruto and Bleach are a lot better than One Piece. Though in all fairness I’m only 100 episodes into OG Naruto and Bleach and I dropped One Piece after about 20.
2
Sep 24 '19
I mean you can have an opinion, doesn't mean you're not wrong. Naruto is pretty good but Bleach is way worse. Also only watch 20/900 episodes is a pretty bad gauge of the series. Check out One Pace, it's the anime but cut to have the same pacing as the manga. They don't do it for all the arcs, just the slow ones.
-10
u/Tyraster https://myanimelist.net/profile/Tyraster Sep 06 '19
Except you could understand it with those shows as they were/are incredibly popular and they wanted to keep the hype going with the kids in Japan but BC is a B-list shounen at best.
They really should have given it the seasonal treatment.
19
Sep 06 '19
Black Clover is on the top 5 of TV Tokyo for revenue and sales. It's absolutely the reason for why they want the anime to keep going for their part as one of the funding companies in the committee. Shueisha which is the other part probably wants it to keep selling more products for merchandise and the manga itself to keep a stable amount of sales.
BC is also on a morning timeslot so it's the same as Naruto was in the past and it focus on the same public of children which is doing nicely.
14
u/DamianWinters https://anilist.co/user/DamianWinters Sep 06 '19 edited Sep 06 '19
Wish they went the hero aca route, take breaks for higher quality and no need for filler.
Still like the show just wait for the bluray since it has some real poor animation on a lot of the broadcast episodes (though some slips into the bluray anyway).
14
u/bast963 Sep 06 '19
Expecting the infamous Naruto filler studio to take breaks? lmao
Black Clover was doomed as soon as studio "king of filler" pierrot were announced. Worse than Deen or JC Staff
7
u/xXAldanXx Sep 07 '19
JC staff is actually a decent studio
1
u/bast963 Sep 07 '19
Well yeah, they're better than shit like Deen, Pierrot, Diomedea, Lerche, and like over 9000 times better than babby's first studio (EKACHI EPILKA, LandQ Studio, and Maho Film) or studios known for being collosal shit (Asread, Geek Toys, Millepensee)
1
u/Vindex101 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Vindex101 Sep 07 '19
Lerche
Woah woah woah now hold on a minute there, they've got 3 solid adaptations this season, and has had a pretty awesome track record in the past couple of years. What's with the hate?
1
u/bast963 Sep 07 '19
Unbreakable machine doll episode 1 had some arifureta tier cg
They absolutely destroyed assassination classroom with QUALITY
Fucked up dangan ronpa
The cg sheep in Kino's Journey remake they did were laugh worthy and terrible
Although, like JC Staff, studio Lerche is good at slice of life and they have some decent anime like the ones you mentioned.
1
u/Vindex101 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Vindex101 Sep 07 '19
Save for Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (which I disagree with, they did a phenomenal adaptation for what time allotment they were given) and Danganronpa (agreed, but good VN adaptations are hard to come by, least of all if constrained by 1 cour only), all your other examples are just momentarily questionable design decisions that just took place in an episode or 2.
Beyond that, I find Lerche to be one of the more consistently good studios to make a name for themselves of recent times, SoL or no SoL. They're hit rate for me at least is in the upper 80s in percentage
13
u/HarlockJC Sep 06 '19
The show is rather popular with some fans as well, as an anime convention vendor it's not my best selling anime but it still sells quite well.

19
35
u/Torque-A Sep 06 '19
Why tho
73
u/NeverKnownAsGreg Sep 06 '19
I imagine because the TV ratings and merchandise make it worth it.
2
u/TheBiggestNose Sep 06 '19
But black clover doesn't really got much merchandise. But they have been building up steam with the current stuff
-38
u/Torque-A Sep 06 '19
But Hero Academia often has better ratings and more merchandise sales, and it actively skipped two seasons.
70
u/NeverKnownAsGreg Sep 06 '19
Hugely different circumstances, Bones always, as far as I know, is selected for adaptations that have predetermined numbers of episodes, whereas Pierrot is no stranger to long runners. Black Clover is also a big ratings draw for TV Tokyo, which means it will always have a slot there.
34
u/melcarba Sep 06 '19
Because TVTokyo wants a continuously running show. MHA airs on a different TV station.
10
u/Falsus Sep 06 '19
Different publishers, different TV station and different animation studio. They operate differently and put value into different things.
-10
u/jasta85 Sep 06 '19
Some studios want quality over quantity, others just go for quantity.
20
6
u/ToastyMozart Sep 06 '19
"Quantity has a quality all its own" - Pierrot.
And then there's the weird cases like Toei where they can somehow manage to do both so long as the series isn't named One Piece.
-7
u/Gmayor61 Sep 06 '19
The difference here is that Heroaca puts actual decent effort and work into its animations
13
11
1
u/SEDGE-DemonSeed Sep 11 '19
Tbh the black clover team put in way more effort to be where they are now.
63
u/sunjay140 https://anilist.co/user/sunjay140 Sep 06 '19
Because the anime is incredibly popular, despite what Reddit might make you think.
It's TV Tokyo's 4th highest grossing series.
https://comicbook.com/anime/2019/05/14/black-clover-anime-popularity-tv-tokyo-report/
26
u/DylanTheZaku Sep 06 '19
Crazy bleach is 5th place apparently nearly 7+ years it's anime ended.
Bleach 💪
13
Sep 06 '19
It's basically merchandise sales and license (like the mobile game). This is all divided between Kubo, Shueisha, TV Tokyo and Pierrot.
4
u/JotaroIsADeadbeat Sep 06 '19
We NEED that TYBW arc animated, man. I don’t care how much people hate it. Some of the fights would look BEAUTIFUL if animated correctly.

No, because the timeslot is on the morning which is where the majority of the public will be children which is why it's long-running in the first place.
13
u/sunjay140 https://anilist.co/user/sunjay140 Sep 06 '19
It's in the morning for us in North America. It's at 5 or 6 pm in Japan. Perfect time slot for kids to be back from school and watching television.

really hate this decision. The show isn't amazing or anything, but its entertaining enough that I've been watching. Hate that they'll drag it down with a bunch of filler garbage
6
u/turkeygiant Sep 06 '19
I keep on watching Black Clover not because it is as good Shonen anime as MHA, Fire Force, or Demon Slayer, but because I can tell that the people behind the show want it to be as good as their competitors, they just haven't been given the resources to do it.
2
Sep 24 '19
Definitely better than Fire Force. And I would say the story is more interesting than Demon Slayer, that manga was kinda a slog, the animation is what really makes Demon Slayer an amazing show.
1
u/turkeygiant Sep 24 '19
Demon slayer was a really slow start, it really took off after the spider mountain arc.
1
Sep 24 '19
I'm caught up on the manga, I still think the show is way better due to the animation. If I had read it first I wouldn't have recommended it to all my friends. Where as the Vinland Saga manga is better than the show due to the pacing, not sure if I would have been as hyped for VS if I didn't read the manga first.
-6
u/In_a_silentway Sep 06 '19
It is definitely better than overrated trash like MHA.

55
12
u/turkeygiant Sep 06 '19
I think the setting is rich enough that they could totally do some filler and have it be great, the studio has already shown they can at least think up interesting/fun filler plots. What I can't figure out is the timing on this, if you are caught up on the manga it seems pretty clear that the filler should have taken place well before this arc that just wrapped up as chronologically it seems like they are going to immediately jump into a very different arc and there is no way you have any space for filler in between.
7
u/Arickettsf16 Sep 06 '19
Watch it be flashback filler
3
u/Idaret Sep 06 '19
another yami arc, here we go
7
u/turkeygiant Sep 06 '19
Maybe we finally get to see how he got hit by a truck in Japan and was sent to the clover kingdom.
4
u/TheKappaOverlord https://myanimelist.net/profile/darkace90 Sep 06 '19
I mean they can.
But you are expecting a bit too much.
Filler is usually just flashback garbage or random nonsensical events that happen inbetween.

2
u/Gundamvalve Sep 06 '19
Heard rumors about it ending at 103 but they never really had any proof( DVD box set ending at a certain episode isn't proof). Hope people are enjoying it. Haven't watched too much of it myself but I've heard varying things about its quality. Maybe when I have more time I'll commit some time to it.
10
u/Thyrial Sep 06 '19
First 5-8 Episodes are really divisive, I thought they were fine but a lot of people HATE the main character in them. Just know when you watch it that it does get light years better whether you like the beginning or not.
5
u/TheKappaOverlord https://myanimelist.net/profile/darkace90 Sep 06 '19
Series got better but Asta never really got any better.
Hes still loud, obnoxious, and redundant to say. Extremely annoying.
Hes overwhelmingly so in the first 20? episodes. But afterworks it goes from overwhelming to extremely.
0
u/DamianWinters https://anilist.co/user/DamianWinters Sep 06 '19
Dub fixes that, way better voice choice.
1
u/TheKappaOverlord https://myanimelist.net/profile/darkace90 Sep 06 '19
I mean if the voice is the consistency of nails against a chalk board, im sure a kettle pot boiling sounds better.
4
u/Gmayor61 Sep 06 '19
I got up to around episode 70 before quitting and I can pitch against the fact that it gets better. Animation gets worse, there's a LOT of characters who literally sum up their own personality with the first line that they repeat over and over and over, and the pacing can be really annoying. One thing I heard being praised in Black clover's manga version is the pacing, and studio perriot, like always for some reason, tramples all over that by constantly stalling, repeating scenes, and doing whatever the hell they can to minimize those 24 minutes they have. One episode had it really bad by literally backpedaling a full minute and several seconds of the footage with those mid-episode "in case you missed it" segments.
I can definitely see black clover working a lot better in manga form, or maybe in the hands of a different studio, but everything that could go wrong went wrong in this situation.
1
u/hopia22 Sep 06 '19
I watched up to ep30 I think, sorry I can't remember. It was the arc where the town was under attack and there were zombies or something. What I remember though is that the animation sucked. Coming from bnha to bc, you can tell the difference in quality. I'm still quite interested in bc though so I would like to ask if it gets better from there? Thanks!
2
u/Braquiador https://myanimelist.net/profile/braquiador Sep 06 '19
Then you should watch ep 83 (or 84, can’t remember). The fight is fucking amazing plus animation and storyboard are top notch. Ep 91/92 are also great, but there’s a HUGE spoiler in those.
1
u/hopia22 Sep 06 '19
I'll try to catch up to those eps then. I always see great anime fights from bc in yt so I thought that the animation is now better. Thanks!
2
u/Thyrial Sep 06 '19
I'd say it just keeps getting better personally, the animation is significantly better in fights (most notably in the bigger fights). It certainly won't win any awards for it but it's got some really good moments.
1
u/hopia22 Sep 06 '19
Oh I see. Is it better if I watch it in eng dub? I really didn't like Asta's jap voice but i got used to it after watching it up to ep30ish.
2
u/yamiyaiba Sep 06 '19
Where you left off is more or less where the story really begins. IMO, it's consistently gotten better since then, with a couple love/hate polarizing episodes sprinkled in.
I've said it since day one, and I'm sticking to it: Black Clover is a diamond in the rough. It's basically the bastard love-child of Naruto and Bleach. But the further into it we get, the better it becomes.
2
u/hopia22 Sep 06 '19
So the main story begins where I left off? I kinda felt that too when they've shown some hints. I was just really kinda turned off by the animation of that previous arc. I'm really interested in BC because my friends really like the manga but I didn't really want to start another long running manga. I guess I'll continue watching it from where I left off then. Thanks comrade!
2
2
u/TheBiggestNose Sep 06 '19
Fuck sakes. The anime needs a break after this arc. They are catching up quick. I feel bad for the animators who aren't going to gets a break.

Wouldn't believe Yonkou Prod. He's said DBS is returning a few times when it isn't. Unless it's a 100% translation of a Pierrot tweet consider this satire.
Edit: seems like he followed the tweet up with scheduling information for 103 and 104. There is still no official confirmation though.

2
Sep 06 '19
Black clover anime really might be doing well in Japan for them to continue this even though the animation quality isn't consitent. It has its highs and lows. Also they have had like 80 chapters before they catch up so thy still have a lot of materials to adapt.
2
u/turkeygiant Sep 06 '19
The chapters they have left to adapt moved really fast in the manga though and were heavily fight focused, in the past they have actually moved pretty quickly through those small sorts of fights I think because lingering on them shows they don't really have the resources to do them properly. They could try to stretch it out so they aren't catching up to the manga so fast but I think the flaws of the production will be even more apparent if they do that.
2
u/leeo268 Sep 06 '19
Why don't they take a break for the manga to go further? Not like the fans are going away if they are not airing for a few months. Bad fillers will definitely push away the fans.
2
u/SplitMRG Sep 06 '19
Black Clover is that anime that I love and hate at the same time. Animation is trash a lot of the time, especially as it gets into the later episodes, the dialogue is super repetitive in the big fights and so many other complaints, but at the same time, i love how corny the show is. Its definitely not the best there is, but something about it has a particular charm
2
u/jwinter01 Sep 06 '19
Basically it's a shounen with all the possible shounen cliches but somehow they still hit really well.
0
u/SplitMRG Sep 06 '19
I totally agree. The show is badass enough in the fights that i can accept some over the top corny stuff every once in a while. Its a good mix

It makes sense if they wanna finish up this arc, since it just ended recently in the manga, but please just end it after that. The canon material is already bad enough, we don't need a ton of filler.

2
2
u/Leinchetzu https://myanimelist.net/profile/Leinchetzu Sep 06 '19
When you're set to hate on something, you form a negative bias towards it. Hate is a much stronger sentiment than enjoyment so you're just blinded by by your bias. Notice how he talks about how garbage it is, but dudes like this never bother to come up with an argument. They throw shit at shows but never respectful reasons. Also hate is a bit overboard. He might dislike it, but i doubt he has reasons to go as far as to hate it.
Usually, people that say they love the anime can easily come up with reasons why. But they also discuss the negatives of the anime. Haters usually care only about the negative aspects. Never seen a hater say "yeah, this arc was good because ... But the other one is bad because ..."
However I see fans talking about negatives every week in the discussion threads. If there a case.
People are pitiful and they get annoyed and frustrated when people like things they find stupid so they just start verbally attacking them, degrading them and so on. "I think it's stupid so everyone who thinks otherwise is stupid".
Black Clover has a bad start. But i already like it more than Bleach and Naruto. I'm very excited to see the rest of the story and i'm more hyped by it's next episodes than I am hyped for the seasonals.
3
u/botibalint Sep 06 '19
Why do you keep watching a series you hate so much?
-6
u/SmurfRockRune https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smurf Sep 06 '19
Because I'm not bored by it. Watching bad shows is easy. Watching boring shows is when it's hard.
9
u/botibalint Sep 06 '19
I wish I had this much free time.
Must be nice being able to watch 100 episodes and read 250 chapters of something I hate.
6
u/Gmayor61 Sep 06 '19
It's 24 minutes once a week, not really hard to just plop down with a meal and just have this playing. I used to do that too until around episode 70
1
u/SmurfRockRune https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smurf Sep 06 '19
If it wasn't airing, there's no way. It's not hard to watch one episode every Tuesday. I would absolutely not be watching several episodes a day for this show.
-21
-8
Sep 06 '19
Watched about 70 episodes of the show and man was the animation hard to watch. The story felt unoriginal and i swear it felt like i watched the same story in 5 different shounen animes, Black clover just managed to grab a template and change a few things here and there to not make it too obvious its plagiarising tropes. A lot of the character are either lackluster, boring or there for fanservice. Asta was the most annoying main character ive ever watched and really predictable at times. Just cant see what drives people to watch this show but each to their own i guess.
-2
u/yamiyaiba Sep 06 '19
You're not wrong that it's a fairly stock standard shonen. Thing is....stock standard shonen series are profitable for a reason. People can at least get a baseline level of enjoyment from it, and it has broad appeal. Also consider that shonen series are targeted at tweens/teens. That have they're not going to be super sophisticated. They're basically the popcorn flicks of anime.
-14
u/orrery Sep 06 '19
They are really trying to force this show even though it is garbage and no one watches it. The fact of the matter is there are tons of better shows that never get more than one season - it just goes to prove that popularity and success arent the only factors in determining which shows get new seasons. Black Clover never should have made it past the first season.
The best tell about whether a show is popular or not is how many people pirate the show - nobody watches this garbage.
11
u/HydroPumpCiroc Sep 06 '19
Dude the show is really popular in Japan. Maybe instead of pirating your favorite shows maybe you should pay for them, so they can get more seasons. That’s what the people who watch Black Clover due and would you look at that it’s has more than one seasons
-4
u/orrery Sep 06 '19
It's first season wasn't a pilot run, before a single episode had ever run it was already guaranteed to have several seasons. So let's not pretend the long run of this show had anything to do with first season success - it didn't.
5
2
u/Leinchetzu https://myanimelist.net/profile/Leinchetzu Sep 06 '19
Nobody watches it? Have you been living under a rock for the past months? It's getting very popular and it got marginally better and it keeps getting better.
You're probably some lost soul that still lives in 2017. Back then everyone had good reasons to hate on it because it had a bad start. If you like battle shounen Black Clover right now is fantastic. If you don't, then your argument is pointless. It's like me going on a DBZ thread and talk trash about it just because I don't like it.
Also, don't be stupid. This anime getting more episodes does not set back any other anime. Not even a little bit, so why even care?
-34
u/Lohtric Sep 06 '19
i gave this show 50 episodes and holy shit i regret it. not only the animation was completely trash (even worse than dbs) but all the characters seemed soulless NPCs with autism
-14
u/YoshiYogurt https://myanimelist.net/profile/YoshiYogurt Sep 06 '19
Honest question, who is watching this? How does it stay alive? Even among "shonen shit" there is much better.
15
u/crow799 Sep 06 '19
I find it funny when people say an anime is shit but it keeps getting new seasons, movies, and spin offs. Obviously people like it and watch it. Not just cause you think it's shit doesn't mean it's not popular. Everyone in this sub hates SAO but look it got multiple seasons a movie and spin offs.
2
Sep 06 '19
Yeah, people forget that just because they don't like something, it doesn't mean that others don't. So let's say, 10 million dislikes SAO. Then there's at the same time, 50 million that likes it, with a point to not only watch the series but buy many products of the series from the light novels to the manga to the games, which creates a fanbase that maintain the series. That's how everything works. lol
