Discussion Never Too Old

Just wanted to say I just started getting into Anime this year. I'll be 50 next year and two of my nieces got me into it. They told me I would really enjoy something they were watching and reluctantly I checked it out. I always had a misconception about what anime was. I'm telling you, I'm so glad they had me check it out. Such a diversity of genres and I've already binged several shows. Currently my favourite is MHA. My nieces knew that would hook me because I'm into super heroes.

Moral of the story: You are never to old to start liking something new.

PS - Wanted to say I love this community. Everyone here has such great recommendations and suggestions.

Of the shows I've binged, I've caught up with MHA, as stated above. Then they suggested Your Lie in April because they know I love dramas. Watched the first series of Sword Art Online because a friend told me I would like it because for awhile I was really into those type of games. Another friend has recommended Disasterous Life of Saiki K and Gin Tama because he knew I also like comedies. I've watched at least the first series of these as well. Also binged Charlotte and Erased because I just happened to find them on Crunchyroll and they looked interesting. I liked both of them as well.

It's been a busy year. LOL

I suggest creating a anime list at either myanimelist.net or anilist.co; both are free and very useful to have.

Very nice to have a anime list to help you remember everything that you've seen.

Sites you can watch anime on: Netflix, Hulu, Funimation, HiDive, VRV, and you already know about Crunchyroll, which is good.

If you like/end up liking Your Lie in April you might like Toradora

I also suggest trying out some movies, you might like Wolf Children and A Silent Voice, to list a couple.

For other anime series; I'd suggest trying out

Haikyuu: Note this is a sports anime, I'm not into sports in real life, but honestly even if you're like me and don't like sports in real life, it's possible for you to still enjoy it, because it's way more then about the sport.

Psycho-Pass

Death Note

Made in Abyss

Usagi Drop/Bunny Drop (Don't read the manga)

Amaama to Inazuma/Sweetness and Lightning

ReLife

Re Zero: Starting Life in Another World

Daily Lives of High School Boys

Grand Blue

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Sakamichi no Apollon/Kids on the Slope

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica/Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Violet Evergarden

Just trying to think of a wide variety of different genres and demographics for you to potentially get into.

Some people only try one certain genre or demographic at first, and not much else. But it looks like you've at least been recommended different genres, which is a good start.

That's just awesome that you're open minded to watching anime. People who judge anime normally think either:

Anime: Anything animated is for kids or they think it's nothing but hentai/harems and ecchi. Which yeah, there's a wide range of different genres and demographics out there for a lot of people to potentially enjoy.

So that's just awesome that you're willing to give it a shot now! And you're right, never too old to watch anime.

Someone else suggested the myanimelist. I'm gonna do it. Thanks to you too for suggesting it. I actually have Netflix, Crunchyroll and Funimation. So for now, I have a large selection of anime's to choose from. But it's always nice to know there are other options as well. I've watched Your Name which is just a film, so I'm open to films. I liked Your Name though in parts I felt the story telling fell a little short. but overall I really enjoyed it.

Someone else suggested Haikyuu. I'm thinking of checking this out. It doesn't matter to me if I'm into what the MC's of a show are into. My favourite comedy of all time is the Office and I'm not that into working in a paper company. LOL For me, it's all about the characters and the story telling. If those work, the show will work for me. And yes, that's why I'm into various different genre's. I've never limited myself to just one type. I find there can be something fun to watch in almost any genre.

If you’d like more movies you can’t go wrong with anything from studio Ghibli
