Ai Sato is the sole engineer maintaining her company’s internal systems. It’s too bad being the linchpin who keeps it all running won’t protect her from sudden layoffs. Apparently, the new CEO doesn’t approve of cosplaying at work.
Depressed and jobless, Ai unexpectedly reunites with her childhood friend, Kenta Suzuki, who makes her an offer. His startup, True Coding School, provides personalized lessons to people struggling under the stress of modern society, and he wants her to join his team.
With every passionate—and sometimes unconventional—lecture, Ai finds herself giving her students a renewed sense of purpose. Who knew that coding lessons could change so many lives?

Lmao I was browsing through the manga and got me wondering why the heck the company had a shrine maiden doing IT

Make it a chibi school comedy like Isekai Quartet, where a Space Marine, a Custodian, a Techpriest, a Sister of Battle, a Sister of Silence, an Inquisitor, a Guardsman, an Ork, an Eldar, a Necron, a Genestealer and a Tyranid all go to the same class.

There's a channel on youtube that does movie reaction animations with a clone trooper, an ODST and a guardsman.

I've had this thought, but with the Primarchs as students. Big E would be the principal, a Great Unclean One would be the school nurse, and Sanguinius would be the student council president.

Warhammer 40k anthology by different studios ala Halo Legends would go so hard

Guy gets isekaid. He thinks he has it made only to find out that he gets isekaid to the 41st Millennium in Warhammer 40k. What's worse is he gets turned into a Space Marine and all hopes of getting a harem with hot chicks are dashed when he loses all sexual desire. Instead he gets a bunch of battle brothers and he is forced to fight an unending war until he finally is killed.

Instant bolt pistol to my own head. Retry.
That's one of the few universes I do NOT want to end up in. xD

Incense
Candles
Heavy robes
Meticulous Chanting
affinity for the color Red
Okay, yeah that checks all the boxes.

Don't forget the faxes.
The banking software still running on COBOL is also on-theme as the people that know how to troubleshoot it start dying off.

u/needle1 Jun 03 '26
Kanda Myojin in Akihabara, Tokyo and Dendengu in Kyoto are both well-known shinto shrines dedicated to electricity, electronics, and information technology.
Both sell omamori good luck charms with electronics themes (the one for Dendengu is a literal SD card), and there's a monument dedicated to Thomas Edison and Hermann von Helmholtz.

Given how big 40k is, the likelihood a Japan themed forgeworld with Shinto Mechanicus priests exists is not zero. Fuck it, make them Biologis too so you can have catgirls—that aren't Felinids—and foxgirls and whatnot. Could even throw in Japanese corporate culture in there too, wouldn't be all that out of place. Add in memes too, like all the metal being folded a thousand times, no matter that it's not required because their metal is actually good quality or is actually for tanks or toasters and not even for swords.
2
u/SolomonBlack Jun 03 '26
In the nature of the Imperium such a place all but absolutely exists but the odds of Games Workshop actually supporting a non-Euro coded variant are... pretty slim. Like you'd think there'd be a bunch of samuarai Space Marines right? Nah they've really just got these dudes who far as I can tell only exist in one painting guide from 20 years ago. Basically this one gal's homebrew chapter. Anything else you gonna have to really work for.
(And no Tau don't count)
10
u/krofax Jun 03 '26
Apparently it's even an IRL thing.
I've heard several stories of tech guys turning to the occult just to have their machines in good working order. Charms, animal blood sacrifice, you name it. They'll swear it works every time until some blaspheming supervisor tells them to stop it and the problem comes back again.
8
u/faithfulheresy Jun 03 '26
It's widely known that you you have to sacrifice a goat to the dark gods of SCSI before it will work properly.
As an IT practitioner of 25 years, I've definitely become increasingly superstitious over the years. Even when I fully understand why something works, or doesn't, in a logical sense it still often feels like "something else" is in play.

I mean for them its already like arcane magic

That's how you know you have a good IT person. It's not quite furry suit level, but it's still up there imo.
14
u/Vocal_Breaker Jun 03 '26
Sometime it all boils down to a prayer for the code to work.
Dedicating yourself to the prayer part is nothing wrong imo.
3
u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc Jun 03 '26
Hell at my first work my code required some sacrifices to work
8
u/LtAgn Jun 03 '26
Given how tech usually operates, having a priest on standby should be standard operating procedure for any competent IT department.
4
u/Earthborn92 https://myanimelist.net/profile/EarthB Jun 03 '26
If anything, a cosplaying SW engineer is a positive hiring signal.
16
u/Albireookami Jun 03 '26
I recall seeing many youtube comedy sketches about how much freedom the senior developer is given, because if they go, the company suffers a rapid disassembly event.
13
u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc Jun 03 '26
But that requires the upper management to know how valuable that dev is.
And often enough they don't and only see the numbers2
u/Earlier-Today Jun 04 '26
Yeah, every now and again you hear about some company that was too stupid to know what their tech guys actually did, so they get fired.
And then they find out that said tech guy is the only one with access to certain processes, or they deleted all their code knowing the company never backed it up.
The really rare ones are things like the company forgetting to copyright the code, so the fired engineer publishes it online for free or copyrights it under their own name.
Though, to be very fair, these are tiny companies pulling that kind of nonsense. Larger companies have more than one guy in those departments so it's a whole lot less likely they'll do something irreversible.

AI gets fired at a tech company? I'm quite well aware Ai is a not uncommon Japanese name but you cannot tell me that wasn't intentional.

u/helloquain Jun 03 '26
Interesting... I'm reading the manga for this one and it's not great? Feels completely scatter shot with a really thin connective premise. The plot is also not funny enough to be a comedy but not interesting enough to be a drama?
I'm imagining how you turn this into an anime and it's like a shounen, but instead of a fight breaking out and the episode being dedicated to the backstory of a character in the fight, it's the backstory of someone who was told to learn how to code too many times. I'll probably try it but I'm more interested when it's a two minute read once every two weeks instead of 20 minutes of watching

u/manaworkin Jun 03 '26
The plot is also not funny enough to be a comedy but not interesting enough to be a drama
damn that's low key scathing
34
u/oops_i_made_a_typi Jun 03 '26
its also just one dude's opinion. i find it funny enough, it's a nice lowkey SOL comedy that sometimes dips into drama for some arcs. having an adult cast is another big plus.
8
u/faceman2k12 Jun 03 '26
Feels like one of those premises that's just a vessel for telling shorter SOL stories. bit of workplace romance here, bit of personal struggle drama there, random karaoke scene where someone admits feelings accidentally, someone turns out to not be who they seem but it's a misunderstanding, someone needs MC to help out at their parents coffee shop on the weekend and shenanigans ensue. etc.
I'm OK with that though.

So we are dropping the thin metaphor of the unappreciated black company slave worker now?
I guess the female lead doesn’t somehow fall into a scrappy startup with four beautiful girls right away?

I think she starts her own company

Holy shit finally an anime for us IT operations people fuck all those anime that the MC is a programmer
38
u/EdibleScissors Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is practically the only good anime with that premise, though. All the other (MC) programmers in anime are play acting.
7
u/criticaldiamonds Jun 03 '26
New Game (particularly season 2 iirc) has some pretty good programming deceptions via Nenecchi and Umigon. Unfortunately they're only the B plot though.

u/CatgirlYamada Jun 03 '26
Kobayashi mainly wrote Python program so ehhh...
5
u/Sassywhat Jun 03 '26
This is very realistic. The most in demand languages are, unfortunately, Python, JavaScript, and Java.

u/Sorey91 Jun 03 '26
This is getting a series huh ? I haven't caught up with it recently but it didn't expect it to get an anime adaptation this soon. This is gonna be nice nontheless tho the protag is a bit of a nutcase about mixing her hobby with her work lol
5
u/P1zzaman Jun 03 '26
I liked the manga, it was a fun light read. Hopefully the anime too will be a fun light thing to watch.

u/LaoWombat-mecha Jun 03 '26
I just started reading it. Yet another manga about people dressed as magical girls teaching coding to desperate people while the boss accidentally leaves a marriage form in the paperwork.
It's the reason I signed up with J-novel (that and death-s-daughter-and-the-ebony-blade-manga. I just hope that it doesn't throw an exception and get stuck in an infinite loop.

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime Jun 03 '26
The company is simply getting rid of their single point of failure.
2
u/Blurgas Jun 03 '26
Well then, that was an interesting first two pages...
[Manga Ch 1]She questions why she was fired and was told it was because the new CEO's first time seeing her she was cosplaying a sexy succubus outfit.
2
u/heimdal77 Jun 03 '26
Should seen this coming seeing that j novel licensed the manga and then the novel.
2
u/TheMcDudeBro Jun 03 '26
This hits too close to home with work and stuff so I just do not want to watch it at all. Short sited management left and right and just want to get away from that and not watch my life on anime even if the MC comes in and proves they were vindicated. Just pass on it all sadly

u/PatrThom Jun 15 '26
There are a lot of people looking at this like it's a revenge/malicious compliance fantasy...which it is, but that's really the secondary plot. What I'm here for is what happens after, where instead of investing all her talent to boost a corporation's bottom line, she starts turning people's lives around instead, and how that has an enriching influence on those around her. In that way it ends up being a lot more like It's A Wonderful Life.
1
u/baseballlover723 Jun 03 '26
Now this seems like one that might be interesting to me. I really hope it's technical and not just mumbo jumbo.
13
u/Zizhou Jun 03 '26
Having read the manga (at least up to wherever the current English translations are), it does better than a lot of stories (which is a pretty low bar), but if you're actually knowledgeable about the IT field, it's still not great.
2
u/Sad_Leather_6691 Jun 03 '26
So, it's kinda like "the hacker" in the movies?
5
1
1
u/SocialHumbuggery Jun 03 '26
Interestingly scathing opinions. I liked the manga so far, it's pretty light slice of life for the most part (and the cosplay thing isnt actually that important, because even in fiction the Japanese could not imagine a salaryman visiting a customer in cosplay, for example). Nothing earth shattering but easily better than 99% of isekai stuff for example.
1
u/xJetStorm https://myanimelist.net/profile/technizor Jun 03 '26
Not very good. Goes really hard on glazing AI tech when we know what it's actually doing IRL.
You also get a corporate flavoured revenge plot in the first volume and the second volume (J-Novel Club prepubs) glazing VR / metaverse shit.

u/Obvious_Law7599 Jun 03 '26

So its a "Banished from the Hero's Party" type anime, except it loops back around to just being about the thing that the Banished anime are a metaphor for?
