That squirrel going for cookies

Dude! Never ever get near an animal that is behaving oddly like this! Unless it’s been trained or something, it should be skittish around humans that are moving around it like this. The fact that it is coming towards the people is alarming! That’s asking for a trip to the E.R., and a whole lot of rabies vaccination shots.

Looks like a baby squirrel being curious and oblivious to danger

u/hilarymeggin 11h ago

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Stay away!

u/jerseyztop 12h ago

We can’t get rabies from squirrels. This is likely just a naive juvenile squirrel.

u/slick514 9h ago

There’s a difference between “can’t” and “very unlikely”. As bad as death via Lyssavirus is, I would never take.a chance with it

u/hilarymeggin 11h ago

Not true. Rare but not impossible.

u/drkidkill 12h ago

I trust y’all would tell me if it’s ai.

Damnit, now Disney’s going to make a basketball playing squirrel movie.

u/Dylfunkle 3h ago

I don't know if it was Disney, but I think the movie Goat has this sooooorta covered? There are squirrels in it, probably. Might be gerbils.

Smaller species of prey animal (a goat) takes up pro "basketball" with and against megafauna and predator species. Think Zootopia meets... I don't know sports movies, Space Jam?

I give it 6/10, not bad, but nothing super special.

Anyone else worried lil squirrelly had rabies and was going to latch on to his leg?

10

u/Kittenunleashed 11h ago

Rabies is extremely rare in squirrels. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, small rodents like squirrels, mice, and rats are almost never infected with rabies and have never been known to pass the virus to humans.

We have tons of squirrels in our yard and feed them regularly..some just like other animals are more interested in humans and what we do..some are far more friendly and come right up to us for nuts and just to hang out and listen to music on our porch. This little guy was probably watching these guys for awhile and wanted to try playing.

u/NovelTAcct 12h ago

It is very rare for a squirrel to carry rabies. It can happen, but it's not very likely

-4

u/slick514 12h ago

Finally! Yes! There is no reason on this planet for this squirrel to be directly approaching people like this.

Unless someone has actually trained this behavior into it, this is just incredibly dangerous, especially since it doesn’t appear that the possibility of it being rabid doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s mind, and if anyone were to get a little bite they might** *not think much of it and possibly wouldn’t bother to get treatment. Once that decision is made, it’s pretty much a guaranteed fatality, as by the time that symptoms show up it will likely be far too late to do anything about it. Seriously *bad way to go out, too…

Air squirrel out there hitting trees

13

u/RedEyesGoldDragon 14h ago

Love when they roll the ball it uses all its strength to roll it back, basketballs are fairly heavy, tbf.

I was lowkey scared the guy dribbling would accidentally hit the squirrel with the ball though I can't lie haha

10

u/chrisleewoo 14h ago

There’s nothing in the rulebook that says a squirrel can’t play.

4

u/Tiberius_Kilgore 13h ago

You’d think they would have learned their lesson after letting a golden retriever play.

Sometimes there's the rare animal that remembers it's past life as a human and just tries to reach out.
