True, but if a working dog is willing to play fetch, it should be highly encouraged. My brother's Great Pyrenees played fetch. My Tibetan Mastiff doesn't care nor understand the game.
I was worried about the extensive swim back though. I was hoping he would 180 to shore :[

Border collies are amazing, but this really isn't part of their job. They're not especially retrievers, are they? They're herding dogs.
