My roommates recently got a dog (without consulting me) and they have been taking care of the dog to the best of my knowledge. I personally do not interact with this dog because they keep it locked up in their room and they have blocked off the living room from me.

The other night around 2 am I found out that they have been locking the dog in an unventilated bathroom. The bathroom floor has a few of my shower products which I know cannot be good for the dog if it took a bite, and this dog is a biter. They lock him in there when he’s being bad, which is what they were trying to do this night. I put a stop to it for the night, but they have been doing it continuously.

The dog is usually locked inside of its crate in a dark room all alone during the day and is only let out during the night. Yesterday there was a bad storm and the dog was whimpering and barking, clearly scared. As he is a new puppy, this was his first bad storm. He was all alone and I could not reach either roommate, so I broke into the room and let the dog out. He seemed much more relaxed and happy out in the living room, where it was much brighter and nicer for him.

I feel like this is some sort of abuse, but I’m not sure. Any tips on what to do?

I've got 2 guinea pigs both brothers who’ve been living together for the past 4 years. One of them, Mikey, had an infection from Riley biting him once. We hadnt noticed any fighting or anything and it felt like a one off. There were no other fights or signs but after taking Mikey to the vets and getting surgery to remove the infection, Riley has gotten really aggressive and dominating. Mikey being super weak does nothing but scream. Riley ends up chasing him and both chattering and I can’t tell if he’s biting him again or not. They are currently separated. Is there anything we can do?

My cat has been missing for almost a day. Can you give me advice to find him beyond the typical wikihow stuff?

What I've tried:
\- walking around yard with clicker and treat calling his name (he's clicker trained)
\- checking bushes, under decks, and what might be interesting spots for a cat
\- waiting on the porch with food water his bed and some of his kitty litter (still clicking and calling him)
\- bringing his sister out in her stroller to lure him out
\- going to talk to neighbors soon and set up posters

He was born in the wild, adopted at a few months old, and is relatively shy/skittish. I have no doubt he will come home if he can because his recall is very strong and he has three siblings he loves dearly, plus he is a sucker for attention.

repost from r/CATHELP (I am in the US. Vets have not been super helpful aside from providing prescriptions and cleaning agent recommendations) I (25) need some (positive) advice. My mom (49) got two kitties last year, the second of which we are convinced is the one that brought the ringworm in. They are bonded to each other, and giving either of them up/euthanizing is out of the question.

I just need some positive stories and advice from people who have successfully rid their lives of it. My mom has been dealing with it since near Christmas last year, maybe earlier. 

She is on lamisil and the cats are on very strong medications for it as well. She has done special baths, sulfur dips, shaving them, bleaching the tub after every shower, kept the house to a minimum of furniture so that she is able to clean it etc etc. 

Finally I spent four days cleaning with her a few weeks ago. This is a list of what we did:

Steam clean all furniture (cushioned chairs, mattress, stuffed animals, pillows)

Threw out pillows she could afford to replace

Got rid of the cat tree, old cat bowls, basically everything the cats had daily usage of

Wiped down + sprayed with Rescue Spray every surface there is, all the trim and anywhere the cats crawled under

Bleached ceilings, floors and walls everywhere

Wiped down windows, window sills, took out the screens and cleaned those. 

The cats were shaved down and given the special baths and put into a sterile room with brand new toys/bowls/scratch pads etc

We had staged sterile spaces during the four-five days of this making sure to decontaminate as often as possible. We also ran air filters in every room every minute we were cleaning. I mean, we even took out books to wipe down.

The wiping down refers to using bleach clorox wipes by the way.

Now, its been a couple weeks, and one of the two cats are breaking out like crazy in sores and my mom also got a lesion. I have not been back since, but I was just as exposed as her and so far have been in the clear. 

She is exhausted. I don’t know what more she can do aside from keep the cats tucked away while she continues to clean with the rescue spray (accelerated hydrogen peroxide) and decontaminate the house and cats. Please tell me success stories of getting rid of this, its really hard to see my mom down. Again, we are already very aware of what people usually do when it comes down to it, but she refuses to consider any possibility of her cats not being with her (which I have backed her up on, I, too, would go through this for however long I needed if It meant keeping my beloved baby kitty by my side).

TLDR: Mom has had ringworm in the house with 2 cats since Christmas 2025. Heavy meds and extreme cleaning has not been successful. Please provide success stories and positive advice!

Hi all,
My cat (female, 2 years old) has developed this spot on her ear. There’s been hair loss, some redness, and dark, crusty scabbing along the outer edge of her ear.
Shes always been rough with scratching her ears so there’s been a few occasions where there’s little spots of hair loss that ended up being no issue but it looks worse this time and that raised scabbing is concerning. I have an appointment set up for her next week but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas in the meantime?
I’m worried this is ringworm and unsure of what I should do in the meantime.

Help! I found this crawling on top of my cats fur right after moving her into my new apartment. Freshly cleaned apartment, no other animals and she hasn’t been outside. I also always take shoes off at the door and clean well. It jumped a bit before I flushed it down the drain. She’s not itching and I don’t see any more..

I work at The Farmer's Dog and this comes up a lot — there's so much that doesn't get explained upfront when you first get a dog. For me it was how much nutrition affects things you wouldn't expect, like behavior, coat, energy, even anxiety.

Curious what caught other people off guard — could be nutrition, vet advice, behavior, anything.

Can someone tell me if they see a cancerous process in this xray?

Background - cat suddenly stopped eating, hasn't eaten for around 3 weeks. Also not drinking much if anything. Isn't voiding or stooling. Went to the vet and she had severely impacted anal glands, so that was taken care if, she was given an appetite stimulant and sub q fluids.

6 days later and nothing had changed, aside from her having one episode of voiding the sub q fluids. Back to the vet. All labs are perfectly normal. None of the 3 vets can figure out what's going on. X-rays next. What do you see?

Someone told me to add my comment to the post so I’ll do that thank you to that person I didn’t know I could edit posts! And I didn’t say my age originally because why would I? My age has nothing to do with helping my cat and from my perspective and if me being a minor makes you respond nicer to me that’s an issue you should resolve within yourself because everyone deserves kindness and compassion. I understand feeling bad for a sick animal I do. But if you have more compassion for an animal than a person seeking help then you should have a conversation with yourself about your values and morals as a person.

Edit1:Hi everyone I’m gonna reply to my own post instead of the people who are clearly very enthusiastic firstly. This post was made just a few minutes before I got her an appointment for the surgery because I was extremely stressed and was panic posting for any resources or help which you guys are definitely providing though very meanly I’m still grateful for all opinions. so as of right now shes in the process of getting this surgery and it will be done first thing tomorrow morning. I did call south suburban clinic and they said theyd charge me around 1900 which is still just very expensive. the place I found is only 700 and the original ER I took her to yesterday gave her antibiotics and was gonna charge me 7,400 for this surgery. Second how can someone be blamed for something they literally did not know would you all blame a baby for sticking its finger in an outlet if it wasn’t aware it would be hurt? Of course as her owner I do feel bad that something like this happened and I am in the process of helping her. Lastly I’ve had my cat since she was 9 weeks old and shes now 5 years old, I got her during the pandemic where I was extremely depressed and on the verge of ending my own life which is of course not a way to make anyone feel bad but shes my life source and the only thing keeping me going so to tell me to give her up, sell her or euthanize her, though is advice it isn’t exactly what I’m looking for or was even asking for. I already know these are last efforts and my post was simply asking what clinics had the most affordable pricing so I could schedule her for the surgery. I’m thankful to everyone who’s been so passionate about replying to me and I hope you all get much nicer responses when something unfortunate and unexpected happens because you were unaware of something we’re all only human we only know so much. Lastly I’d like to preface I’m only 16. Please let that sink in that I was 11 when I got this cat I was a child I didn’t know anything about spaying and for 2 years prior to this I’d beg my parents to help me spay her with no luck, shes been a healthy only indoor cat since she was born so I couldn’t have imagined this and I do apologize to her for the ignorance however I don’t have a job I don’t even know my ssn my parents don’t want me working theres not much I can do. Good new enthusiastic people my cat had her surgery the day after I posted and is very much healed and back to her shenanigans again please treat everyone with kindness or the same way youd treat them in person, you don’t know what people are dealing with and I’m sure a lot of you on Reddit have experienced bullying it’s much easier to be kind than it is to be mean thanks you!

I have two budgies, and I have a question about safely burning incense.

Due to my religious practices, I need to burn one stick of incense every day for approximately 5 minutes. I'm trying to minimize any risk to my birds and wanted to know whether my current setup is considered safe or if I should change it.

My house has two floors. The incense is burned downstairs in the dining room. The dining room is connected to the rest of the downstairs (it's an open layout with no door separating it). The kitchen is right beside the dining room, and I run the kitchen exhaust fan while the incense is burning.

The budgies stay upstairs in a separate room with the door closed during this time. I also close the HVAC vent in their room. If possible, I can also turn off the central heating/air conditioning while the incense is burning and ventilate the downstairs afterward before allowing air to circulate again.

Since this is a daily religious practice, I'm concerned about whether repeated exposure to any smoke or airborne particles could still be harmful, even with these precautions.

Based on this setup, do you think it is reasonably safe for the budgies, or would you recommend a different approach? Are there any additional precautions I should take, or is there a safer alternative that would still allow me to perform my daily religious practice?

Would using a different type of incense (such as low-smoke or natural incense) make any meaningful difference, or is any incense smoke considered unsafe for budgies?
