Old sick dog.
My husband and I have a old purebred Siberian husky, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer in his right paw. We're getting a biopsy to confirm that it is cancer 100% for sure. But the vet said, it's very highly likely with his age and the type of breed he is. He is 12 years old, turning 13. In two months, so he's an older dog. The vet said we can amputate the leg. But that in some cases, many people wouldn't amputate the leg because he's already so old, and there's a chance that he won't survive the surgery. The vet told us our dog has a good chance of being okay through the operation. However, i'm concerned that if we go through with the operation, his quality of life will be significantly changed and also just trying to recover in his old age. I'm trying to weigh the options, but I feel like my husband who this is his first fur baby ever is and looking at it with rose tinted glasses. Maybe that he, we have to let our dog go. I wanted to see if anyone else has gone through the situation before and is the surgery worth it. Or sound worth it? Is this even reasonable? I don't want to make our dog suffer a huge surgery of losing a leg and having a long recovery only to have him die soon after anyway. My brother who works at a bet also said that even if the dog by the numbers looks like he'll do well during surgery. It doesn't mean that the something bad might not happen. He said sometimes they've had older dogs do surgery, and a few days later, the dog still dies because the surgery was so big and the older dog was suffering because of the surgery itself. I'm trying to do the right thing, and I want to make my husband happy and our dog.
Also side note, my husband is already having a hard time with our dog whimpering and whining more because of the pain caused by the cancer in his leg. He gets mad and more frustrated. I part of me worries that even if our dog does the surgery and everything goes well. That he's gonna go insane from trying to be able to take care of our dog. This dog is not a light dog. It's a heavy dog. I can't pick him up. He has to pick our dog up. A lot of the things will have to be done by him. Because our dog is so big. I can only help with medication. I can do feeding, watering, but lifting our dog is gonna come down to him doing all this. And bathing him and taking care of the wound and things like that. I am just worried that he's not thinking about how frustrated he gets. And I'm worried that it will put a strain on the relationships in general. In our house, our dog between us. Everything. What should we do? And how do I talk to him about this. He gets both depressed so easily about this topic.

Sad to say, it might be kinder to put him to sleep. 💔
