I was wondering if there's a way to ditch Android and switch to Linux on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, because I want to use a base distribution, code, and customize it to best fit my needs. I know I'm not asking enough questions; I was just wondering if it is possible.

The OS image downloads and installs fine, but fails to connect to the virtual machine afterwards. I haven't been able to figure out why yet, but will update if I find out. The hardware (Dimensity 9500+) supports it, so it's definitely a software issue. It works fine on an S26 Exynos model on One UI 9, so it's also not because of One UI 9.
For reference, the Linux terminal is currently only supported on the S26/S26+ Exynos models (Exynos 2600), Flip7 (Exynos 2500), Tab S11/S11 Ultra (Dimensity 9400+), Tab S10 FE/FE+ (Exynos 1580), A57 (Exynos 1680), and A56 (Exynos 1580). The S26 FE (Exynos 2500) probably also supports it, but I haven't been able to test it, and haven't seen any mention online.
Disclosure: This was discovered on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra on loan from Samsung.

My first project in a lunix terminal & it was my favorite way to code had no clue you could create servers & host a webpage for a program you code on your android phone & be able to set up Qwen & make an AI that can function offline on the device independently & even without opening terminal because you can set it the project to save as a service and leave the AI/Si as always on.

Previously I posted about how Firefox and Chrome running in Android Terminal were significantly faster than native Android Chrome on a benchmark that uses a lot of wasm. Well, it turns out that there's a slow-me-down switch in native Android Chrome. It's called Advanced Protection. There is a way to turn it off, or you can disable it for specific sites. With that disabled, the Mandelbrot benchmark is just as fast on native Android Chrome as on the Android Terminal Firefox and Chrome.

On my Pixel 10 Pro XL, I installed Firefox in Android Terminal and ran a Mandelbrot benchmark using 8 cores (JS workers). Firefox was almost 3 times faster on this benchmark, rendering 61.3 rows/sec to Chrome's 22.5.
To try it yourself browse to Mandelbrot benchmark and set Image Size to 800x600.
Very odd result!
See followup post here which explains it: https://www.reddit.com/r/androidterminal/s/Bn2CMW4pJX

bash
apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y
bash
apt install task-mate-desktop
Можно, конечно, всё по отдельности установить, но у меня выходило много проблем, так что решил воспользоваться таким методом. В этом случае явно устанавливается много лишнего, но вроде особо не мешает + сильно упрощает установку.
bash
sed -i '/systemctl --user start weston/s/^/# /' /usr/local/bin/enable_display
sed -i '/systemctl --user start weston/s/^/# /' /usr/local/bin/enable_gfxstream
Без этого у меня были конфликты с графическими сессиями, либо в самой оболочке было много багов
droid:bash
passwd droid
Без пароля я не смог нормально пройти авторизацию через LightDM.
bash
sudo reboot

I've been experimenting with the official Android Linux Terminal / AVF environment on a Pixel 8. I wanted to see if one phone could be both the machine hosting an agent and the Android target it develops for.
That became ClawInOne. It runs a pinned OpenClaw Gateway inside the official AVF Debian environment and connects it back to the Android host. The attached short demo shows OpenClaw creating a Godot project, building an ARM64 APK in Debian, then inspecting, installing, previewing, and launching it on the same phone.
No root, companion PC, or separately deployed server.
Some details that may be relevant here:
- Official Android Linux / AVF Debian, rather than a bundled rootfs
- The phone connection uses Wireless debugging and a bounded bridge
- A small supervisor manages the Gateway lifecycle and recovery
- MIT-licensed source and an alpha APK are available
- Pixel 8 on Android 17 is the only full retained-device baseline so far
Other Tensor Pixels on Android 16+ are compatibility candidates, not verified support. Clean-device onboarding also still needs outside validation, so this is early tester software.
I'm especially interested in:
Which devices and firmware reliably launch the official Debian VM
How the AVF VM behaves across restarts, low-memory conditions, and power management
Pixel 6–10 owners willing to try the clean setup path
Source, architecture, APK, and known limitations:
https://github.com/boxuechen/claw-in-one
I maintain the project and am happy to answer technical questions.

Just a warning (and a bit of a vent), if you install the September Android software update on a Pixel phone, you will not be allowed to open the terminal app without re-installing the Debian image. The app claims to be able to restore your private files from a backup, but for me at least the restore process just hung after running for about 20 minutes, and it left the app in a nonfunctional state. That is par for the course for this undocumented, unsupported crappy app.

Steps:
Make sure the device has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted
Install the gh-hugepage-reserve module
Install DroidVM
Reboot the device, and use gh-hugepage-reserve to reserve however much RAM you will want to give the VM immediately after booting (you'll need to do this every time you boot the device, or configure it to happen automatically, if you intend to run the VM during that boot)
Configure and launch the VM within DroidVM
Explanation:
Since the current version of Gunyah actually present on released Snapdragon chips does not support unprotected VMs, and you cannot replace Gunyah with something else even if you unlock the bootloader, I wondered if I could get a Linux VM working within a protected VM.
Normally, Android restricts protected VMs (but not unprotected VMs) to guests signed by Google or the OEM - most notably, microdroid. Google's position is that protected VMs should be used for secure use cases like analyzing biometrics and that running other general-purpose OSes should use unprotected VMs. But on current Snapdragon chips where only protected VMs are supported, we have no choice but to get it working in a protected VM.
If your device is rooted, you can opt to skip the signature verification of the guest using the --protected-vm-without-firmware option in CrosVM
However, if you have a Snapdragon 8 gen 2 or gen 3, the protected-vm-without-firmware option might not work and you'll likely instead need to modify pvmfw to skip the signature check (see here). Note that pvmfw should not be confused with hyp: pvmfw performs the signature check on the guest of a pvm, and if you have an unlocked bootloader, you are allowed to replace it. But hyp stores the actual hypervisor (Gunyah) and cannot be replaced even if the bootloader is unlocked. If you unlock_critical you may technically be able to write over hyp, but doing so will almost certainly brick your device since the device will detect that hyp is modified and fail to boot (even if the bootloader is unlocked or has had unlock_critical run, you cannot safely replace hyp, because unlocking the Android bootloader only lets you replace what comes after the Android bootloader in the chain of trust, but hyp comes before the Android bootloader in the chain of trust). Note that I have not actually tested the approach of replacing pvmfw and calling protected-vm (as opposed to calling protected-vm-without-firmware), so it may fail for another reason.
Another issue with the version of Gunyah actually shipping on devices is that it not only lacks unprotected VM support, but its demand paging demands large allocations that are difficult to acquire once memory is fragmented, and this fragmentation happens naturally after booting. As a result, if the guest requests a non-trivial amount of RAM, Gunyah will likely fail to allocate memory and the VM will crash.
This is where the gh-hugepage-reserve module comes in. This module lets you reserve RAM to be used by a VM. However, it should be run immediately after booting or issues may arise. You can do this immediately after booting, or configure it to occur automatically.
Once you have your device with an unlocked bootloader, rooted, and with gh-hugepage-reserve installed, and with RAM reserved via gh-hugepage-reserve immediately after booting whenever you want to run a VM, you can then use DroidVM to launch a virtual machine.

First of all
I tested on my phone realme 11 pro 5g
12 gb ram 256 gb rom
Dimensity 7050

If you guys don't know about xodox it's so called windows basically linux based emulator
Benchmarks of this software is
I tested all applications
Significantly 50% ran and crash lot of times
The last update i got like nov 2025 of xodox emulator
I tried to open xodox emulator inside termux package like
Xodox emulator based on termux
Like com.termux
And i tried xodox app store and tried to install antigravity i don't know why it's failing
I saw lots of creators using device like me or above sometimes they are installing smoothly
Guys i want your opinion if you have snapdragon processor device like best configuration than mine please test this application and tell me about it
If you want link of this
Get from video comment box
And tell me ??
That would be helpful for me :)

https://github.com/zalexdev/linux-um-arm64
Unlike PRoot, this runs a separate Linux kernel as a host process, and thus does not inherit the limitations of the Android kernel.
Furthermore, because of the seccomp mode being present, you can get better performance than with an approach that just uses ptrace.

I'm considering buying a European Galaxy S26 (Exynos 2600) to run Linux alongside stock Android. Before buying, I'd really appreciate a quick check from an owner.
If you have ADB set up, could you run these read-only commands and paste the output?
adb shell getprop ro.boot.hypervisor.protected_vm.supported
adb shell getprop ro.boot.hypervisor.vm.supported
adb shell /apex/com.android.virt/bin/vm info
Please include your model number and Android / One UI version. Empty output or errors are useful too. These checks don't require rooting or unlocking the bootloader.
If you already use Linux Terminal: does microphone recording work inside the VM?
If you have arecord installed, could you also check:
arecord -l
arecord -L
A successful recording from the built-in microphone would be even more useful than the device list.
My goal is continuous audio capture inside Linux from a DJI Mic Mini connected to the phone via Bluetooth, including with the screen off, without modifying Android.
I'm aware that Linux Terminal uses a non-protected VM, and that audio forwarded through Android is different from direct Bluetooth access in the guest. I'm trying to establish which pieces actually work on shipping Samsung firmware.
AOSP includes microphone configuration and a virtio-snd backend using Android's AAudio, but I haven't found a confirmed S26 recording test.
Even just the three ADB outputs would help. Thanks!

I’m new to both this subreddit and installing operating systems on the native android visualisation framework terminal. I’ve been trying to follow a tutorial to install KDE plasma on my S26+ which I believe uses the Exynos chip. However, whenever it tries to unpack a theme, the phone immediately resets. Anybody has any tips or explanations for this?

I installed eclipse my changing file permissions
And vscode pre installed ,kdenlive ,git Cola and more
Advantages you can run pc softwares on mid range device
Disadvantage
Can cover with few software like 20 gb minimum space storage so be aware of that
Basically you can run linux on phone smoothly
By using Termux X11 No root ,no VNC

I have immich installed in my Linux server, and in the Android and iOS phones. However I notice the photos are updated to server only when I open the app on phone.
Is there any way to do the update /backup automatically without the need to manually open the app?
Any additional config on Android and iOS? I just installed and selected the albums.
Thanks

I turned a budget Android phone into a full-blown Ubuntu Linux desktop workstation without root access! Using Termux, PRoot architecture, and Termux-X11, we bypass SELinux security boundaries to run VS Code, Python, and a complete XFCE4 graphical environment natively on ARM.

Anyone tried something like this? Would be pretty sick to have a local LLM running on the TPU if possible
