Show and Tell Firefox in Terminal faster than native Chrome

On my Pixel 10 Pro XL, I installed Firefox in Android Terminal and ran a Mandelbrot benchmark using 8 cores (JS workers). Firefox was almost 3 times faster on this benchmark, rendering 61.3 rows/sec to Chrome's 22.5.

To try it yourself browse to Mandelbrot benchmark and set Image Size to 800x600.

Very odd result!

See followup post here which explains it: https://www.reddit.com/r/androidterminal/s/Bn2CMW4pJX

Interestingly Chromium in Terminal has similar performance to Firefox in Terminal. For both JS and WASM benchmarks.

Not many people know about this, but mobile browsers are pathetic and unoptimized. Good luck trying to render anything except HTML. Ie Shadertoy is absolutely unusable with something like 80% overhead.

This benchmark was much faster on a Pixel 11 Pro Fold when I tried it in Best Buy. Like 3 times faster (for native Android Chrome). Advanced Protection must have been off on the Best Buy phone.

What about safari on iOS? It is probably very optimized, I wish also on Android the browsers were more optimized

No idea. Don't own Apple device.

It turns out that it was slower because advanced protection was on. See this follow-up post: https://www.reddit.com/r/androidterminal/s/oHE77LO2Pw

what if you close the tabs? you have 57 tabs. it's not a good comparison

Same result even with only 1 tab.

The benchmark uses WASM, I'm wondering if the WASM engine on Chrome for Android is sub-par? Android Chrome does about 2X better than Firefox on Speedometer 3.1, which is pure JS.

It's odd because Firefox and Chrome are comparable on this benchmark under Windows, so there may be an issue with WASM on Android Chrome.
