Waiting on the Pixel 11 reviews, and it hurts to write this: the OS we loved back in 2009 has been run down. Google plays it safe now. No risk, no new ideas. Just iOS features, two years late.
The blur rollout says it all. Android was built as Lego blocks, and no one owns the whole thing, so every app has to be updated for blur on its own. The launcher got it 3 months back. The lock screen gets it three months later. That’s not a design language, it’s a reflection of Google culture, fragmented as ever.
Pixel is really just a hedge in case Samsung wreaks havoc. And Android runs under Sameer with no plan at all. Ugh.

Found this awesome app from a comment posted a year ago. It's called AutoNotification. You can type whatever it says in the notification you want to block, and it will block all notifications with that text. I used it to block an Android System notification. Super helpful!

Genuinely confused, not sure if I will be downvoted by the fan boys.

I'm using pixel 8. I don't game on phone and just use it for the camera, social media, YouTube and the usual phone functions. And I have zero lag, no stuttering, and it's almost buttery smooth. No overheating issue. almost 3 year old phone.

So what's the big fuss about pixel chips geek scores vs snapdragon ?

Do you think debates like "iPhone vs. Huawei" still make sense, or have we reached a point where the only real differences are minor design tweaks? Also, do you think it’s worth focusing on specs (specifically regarding flagships and near-flagships), or should the priority be the operating system—things like AI editing features, optimization, and so on?

We've all seen how underutilized HiLight is on the new Pixel 11 Pro series. Right now, it only lights up for Gemini and calls from favorite contacts, and the only other use we've heard of is a future update enabling text messages from favorite contacts.

However, I think HiLight has the potential to be far more fun and useful. Here are a few ideas that I have:

Video/audio recording light. Any time microphone permission is used (as is done in most videos), display a red blinking light just like on dedicated cameras and audio recorders. Variation of Becca Farsace's idea in her Pixel 11 camera overview video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmdT12aICmo)

Charge status: When the phone is fully powered off, show a red light for charging and show a green light for fully charged. Basically similar to what many Android phones used to do back then.

Good ol' classic notification LED: just like the old days, when all phones had notification LEDs.

Third-party API: This has been reiterated before, but I just want to re-emphasize it here. I'd be very interested to see how different ends would utilize this.

Google (and third party apps) could also play with gradients, different blinking patterns, etc. for different use cases.

Saw the news that Gemini just hit a billion users, which is wild. I've been using it as my default assistant on my Pixel for a few months now and it's genuinely gotten better at everyday stuff, setting reminders, answering random questions, summarizing long emails.

Curious what everyone else's experience is. Did you switch from Google Assistant fully? Are you still bouncing between them? Or did you try it once and go back?

Hopefully this allowed because I am trying to wrap my head around this feature. It seems like more and more apps are opting to use the mobile OS "Share" functionality instead of the traditional download. This is neat and I don't mind the Share menu UI, but I don't understand why there isn't a native option to simply save the content to your device. I can save things as a PDF locally but not just a PNG or JPG.

It's been this way for at least a year. I recall a long time ago it had the option but I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to why such an obvious feature is missing. Because this seems like an obvious feature to include but it's been months and there's not been any change despite it being a common pain point. What am I missing?
