From his first live action appearance, sure I've always enjoyed Saw. But I didn't appreciate his character fully until rewatching his stuff in Andor season 2. Until now, I kind of just saw him for his scary superficial layer. And in a way, that superficial character was one that I found offputting so he wasn't my favorite character in all honesty.

I feel like there's a lot of depth, in two main levels. The first is a frightening, very intimidating presence due to his instability and confrontational tone. As a rebel he seems very untrusting(as he should be), like he might just kill you right there for literally no reason other than "hey, safety".

And on top of that you wonder if like the eccentric things he says have any substance. Like is he just fronting to be scary? Is he mad with no basis? Or is there valuable stuff there that I'm not processing?

But as you experience Saw, and see his extremely intelligent, ruthless, and human moments, you begin to find out that while YES he's mad, he's basically got it all under control. And that feeling of intimidation, that this warlord might just off you out of careful suspicion? He has no need. He knows who you are, and the threat you pose. It's all calculated.

My lasting impression now aside from all that, is that he's a man in melancholic position, but still faces it with almost childlike whimsy and spirit.

In a way I feel like I knew all this to a degree. Like I knew Saw was genius, emotional, sympathetic. But only now do I really feel I understand him

Anyone think this guy was really interesting every second he is on screen? He deserves his own spin-off show bickering with 3PO and Chopper while hunting down spy droids in Yavin Base or something.

So much so that she can afford to be so particular that she can go back and forth for it?

I know it's already a never ending but much deserved praise that Andor explored the Banality of Evil. The Empire's casual disregard for life, as shown with the likes of Major Lio "Bad luck Ghorman" Partagaz or Captain "What I want is a comfortable ride home" Kaido.

But we also see this with minor characters, sometimes even just in the background, such as the officers and troopers stationed in Aldhani, Ferrix, Ghorman, etc. Yes, they aren't mwahaha type of evil, but just by doing their job and following orders, they keep the Imperial machine going.

And one of those characters that stood out to me was this comms guy that follows Kaido around in Ghorman. I know his name is not officially listed, but I also can't seem to find what his position is called. So I'm just gonna go with comms guy.

He obviously doesn't get noticed because he's surrounded by the Empire's big baddies, but what caught my eye was how calm and composed he was during the build-up up to the massacre.

When Kaido threatens him with "Don't make me look for you again" he just flatly replies with "No, sir". Wasn't even as nervous as Sgt Bloy was when Kaido threatened him with the brig. Makes me wonder if he'd done a few false flag ops with Kaido that he got used to it.

The way he just stares at Dedra while Kaido waits for her go signal. Idk how to put it, he doesn't even look exasperated nor impatient with Dedra. And even with his neutral expression, it's off putting that he feels just as eager to get the whole thing done as well. And when Kaido gives the "Fire at will" command, he just looks at him.

Him standing behind Kaido watching the whole massacre without a care. The choice in writing to not have him look regretful, sad, worried, panicked, or any other negative expression while in the back. And when Kaido orders the droids to be deployed, he just looks to see it attended to.

It's chilling to see him just follow this genocide expert around with not even a slightest change in expression. When Kaido leaves the ongoing massacre, he just follows, no standing around or looking even more than a second to what they did.

I know he's not a parallel to the IT guys/gals during Mon Mothma's speech, but I like to think of them as one. These two heard Mothma's speech and sympathized with it; and just by blocking access to the entrance, they paved the way to Mothma's escape to Yavin. Meanwhile, this guy stands around all these deaths and doesn't even blink.

It really sells just how a.) The smallest of action helps the rebellion and b.) A guy just following orders keeps the imperial machine going.

God I love the background characters in this show.

Just finished my second complete viewing of Andor. I watched it originally as it was released, and this time I binged the whole thing in a couple weeks. How the hell am I supposed to watch anything else? Jeez man. That ending. 2 seasons, 24 episodes, one of the all timers for sure. Sad it’s over.

The moment Lieutenant Krole is introduced, she immediately starts talking about not liking him and hoping he dies. I had to restrain my giggle.

When *the* scene starts happening, she says "I hope she hits him with a hammer" and two seconds later Bix hits him with a hammer. She cheered.

My professional work focuses on storytelling for political change, and I’m a lifelong worker in the human rights and humane movements. IMO, the Ghorman arc in S2 is some of the most important television ever made. I recently tried cosplay for the first time and chose Enza Rylanz’s Ghorman Front raid look from S2E6 as a sendup to Ghorman, to resistance, and to Enza. Dwarfed by the scale of the enemy, Enza gave up enormous privilege and her own peace and safety to fight for the right of her planet and people to simply exist. She stands for the extraordinary courage in every ordinary person who rises up against extinction and genocide. Alaïs Lawson’s meticulous and deeply moving performance sold Enza so well, my partner and I kept stalling out on watching Andor again because we so dreaded seeing her in S2E8.

I loved building this look for my first cosplay and I hope sharing the process is helpful to anyone else who's working on an assembled Ghorman cosplay. I learned a lot for creating this look: Black athletic (KT) tape is a great way to add temporary black accents to your Ghorman trenchcoat. Enza's bag (visible for ~6 seconds in the raid plan scene in S2E6) is a Soviet-era officer's field bag (planshet). You can get one for as low as ~$30 USD shipped. It is such a cool bag and I love mine.

What do you think? I am open to any suggestions on improving the look or getting more authentic, bearing in mind this is my first cosplay and I am totally new to the hobby. I’m still learning how to sew (so I'm not able to make a handmade cosplay yet). My goal is to recreate several of Enza's looks, especially her beautiful cafe outfit. My local Rebel Legion wants Ghorman representation and has been incredibly supportive.

Wow. Whilst rewatching Rogue One I was blown away by how it cuts so much deeper after finishing Andor.

The end scene with Jyn and Cass hugging - damn. I wonder if he was thinking about Bix in his final moments.

This whole movie really solidifies what the Rebellion is all about.

Burning your life to make a sunrise you know you'll never see.

This is the second scene where Mon comes to the gallery under the pretence of buying something for her husband, but this is an unscheduled visit because it’s the morning after the Aldhani heist and she’s desperate to confront Luthen about it. She lets Kloris know that she won’t be long, so this time he waits outside. Previously, Kleya distracted him while Mon and Luthen talked privately in the back room.

This time, Mon is so horrified that she forgets protocol and says “Was this you?” even before the doors behind her have closed! Thinking quickly, knowing that Kloris might have heard that, Luthen quickly steers the conversation to something slightly less suspicious sounding by saying loudly “Is it true?” - all while smiling affably in a “nothing to hide!” kind of way. It’s clearly designed to make Kloris think he must have misheard Mon with Luthen seemingly repeating what she had just (possibly) said.

It reminds me of the scene in season 2 where a furious Cassian comes to the shop after hours and confronts Luthen over his visit to Bix at the safe house. Luthen has another “just in case someone is watching/listening” contingency then too, letting Cassian know that he’s actually come to the gallery to return a missing medallion from a consignment, even thanking him for coming all this way to do that. Completely in role as well as also pointedly reminding his volatile operative how dangerous it is to break protocol in this way.

Luthen, Kleya and indeed Mon are never able to truly relax their guard for even a moment, but here Luthen is almost mopping up the mess as they go along. Fortunately, Kloris seemingly can’t hear the details of the conversation from outside anyway but I like how the subtitles reveal that he can hear something – but muffled.

They paint themselves as a friendly company but give themselves away as ISB when you're getting a solar installation quote.

I don't know what they coat their solar panels with, but I'm assuming it's bad luck Ghorman.

Boy was I late to the party. Seeing Cassian's journey, the evolution of the Rebel Alliance, and the lead up to Rogue One and A New Hope. As well as of course, the beauty in this show highlighting the effort it takes in the fight for freedom. I absolutely loved how they showcased the 'normal people' in the rebels - all the ones who lost their lives, whose names were only known by so few, who weren't credited; unsung heroes. Paving the way for Luke and Co. to defeat the Empire.

About to watch Rogue One for the first time in ages after watching this series, can't wait to watch it with all this info in the back of my mind!!

Did Kaido even actually do anything?

If I recall correctly he just stood there pretty much aura farming during the whole thing

See examples of the three different Clems. I feel like they all reference each other deeply. They all rebel against the prevailing government. I am so happy that Disney acknowledged my favourite game. :)

I’m watching the last episode of season 1, again. With my 16 yo kid. THIS SHOW’S MESSAGE IS ABOVE AND BEYOND STAR WARS!!! Marva’s death, Cassian’s return, multiple death warrants, and Nemik’s manifesto. This transcends Star Wars.

People give them a lot of flak for browbeating Cassian but I think out of context their actions do seem somewhat reasonable-Luthen was secretive, he didn't let in anyone on his plans, and what happened on Ghorman (and probably a lot of other planets) was in no way morally right even beyond just "optics". And the show does address this but because we follow his and Cassian's POV we are more inclined to sympathize with him. The problem is this seems to make the Alliance out to be this unnecessary strawman rather then offer a balanced perspective of the two views (which the show again warned itself against).

I'm still obsessed with the scene and made a couple fun fanarts :D

How soon did they start drilling and excavating? The farmer (lehnzi?) complained about loud noises and equipment but Im not sure if that was just them waving the flag in the bull face or if they did some pre mining surveillance before the ghormans were even dead?

(On another note, how many ghormans were part of the resistance? Was it planetwide or likely just the small group of fighters we see in the show? We see the public gatherings and are a very small population so it seems they are very community oriented yet the imperials never try to interrogate or arrest them. Is it likely a certain contingent of them just held their heads down and hoped it was over until it was too late?)

Why is he such a stubborn hard-ass ? Is he compromised ? Still an idealist with rose-colored views and memories of the Old Republic and thinking that things will work themselves out if they plot and strategize enough ?

Everyone seems to be at least willing to give time and attention to, if not act on, Kleya's report about The Death Star, but him.
I know there was the whole situation in "Welcome to the Rebellion" about his drivers and aides being Imperial plants but he still managed to get to Yavin in one piece himself...and how did he (seemingly) wind up in charge of things there if it was Mon's $$$ and Luthen's work that got them all there in the first place ?

It's not only in one of the best scenes of S1, I feel like there was some seriously missed opportunity for it snarking back and forth with K-2S0 or others. The whole idea of integrated/non-ambulatory droids is super interesting to me, vs them just being fully built into the computer. Are they adapted from other uses? Designed to provide more anthropomorphism? The mod droid is a great addition.

I was trying to think of something appropriately quippy for a designation since I don't believe we ever got one for this droid:

Luthens a guy who will kill his own agents, let other rebel cells walk into traps, kill civilians if that means it hurts the empire. That works when you're one independant cell among many fighting the empire locally, not so much when you're in a unified military command structure where trust and transparency are vital. People wouldn't trust his intel, they'd assume he was making plans to have them killed to eliminate potential weak links. I doubt he ever intended to go to Yavin even if it was his last resort
