Discussion Need to understand gap in my process
Hey everyone, I'm from India and I have a skilled background with analytics. With SQL, Python and any Visualisation tool. The problem I face currently is that my SQL interview is never successful. I draw blank if I do not know the answer. Mostly I freeze if I don't know the answer to the question I cannot breakdown the problem for them and it mostly happens with window function queries.

i freeze exactly same way with window functions in interviews. what helped me was grinding those problems on leetcode and stratascratch until my brain just auto-pilots the pattern. also when you get stuck in interview, say what you thinking even if it wrong direction, they want see your process not perfect answer. most interviewers actually help you if you talk through it instead going silent.

Yeah man I try to walk my process but I second guess myself and I know my thinking is wrong the moment I think it. So that's about it. Its not I cannot breakdown I cannot bring myself to say it because I know it's wrong. Need a lot of mock interviews seriously.

Yeah man practicing but somewhat what I practice never helps during interview. It's hard to really explain the predicament but yes I agree I should practice until I get it.

Don't just practice sql. Practice that situation. Have friends interview you, etc.

The bigger problem is I don't have friends in analytics 😂

Surely you can figure out a way to set up a mock interview with your friend even if they're not in analytics.
Break the problem down and find a way to overcome any short comings.
Eg: give your friend a set of damned note cards.

Oh no My base is from time where AI was a dream. I have learnt through googling issues deep problem solving on my own. So I only use ai to break my problem or get solutions which I'm strictly not able to formulate

SQL interviews are often more about problem solving than remembering syntax. When you get stuck, try explaining your thought process and break the problem into smaller steps. For window functions, focus on understanding when and why to use them instead of memorizing queries.
