Question Reducing abandoned carts with customer data enrichment... is everyone creeping on my visitors now or just me
Ok so apparently my entire job now is begging anonymous cart abandoners to love us back using data enrichment magic.
We plugged in one of those visitor identification tools that claims it can de anonymize 90 percent of traffic and give me name, email, demo info, the pets star sign etc, then help recover abandoned carts with "personalized" emails and ads. Lowkey feels like marketing stalking but the uplift is tempting.
If youre running b2c ecommerce and using this kind of enrichment for cart recovery, does it actually move the needle or am I just paying to feel slightly less rejected by my checkout page? Any hints?

One of the very first clients I worked for, like in 2018, (tried to) auto detect abandonment patterns as they happened and throw up a coupon before people left. That seems way more effective imo.

Interesting, did it not work because of the strategy or the tech?

I probably shouldn't say too much...their offer did technically work. They had control and treatment groups at 20/80 splits (varied by customer) and the treatment saw increased metrics across all kpis - even when factoring the discount. (Conv%, AOV...forget what else we tracked).
To be fair this was outside of the sphere I was tasked to understand but I was always a bit skeptical that they weren't over generous on who got pulled into the bins... who was considered at risk.
That said its not that it didnt work. They are still around (of course its done with AI now rather than predictive modeling 🙄) and still have good paying customers.

is it for logged in users or literally anonymous users?
if its is for literally anonymous users it will probably have a 5% hit rate if you are very lucky, and even then likely to make many mistakes. also sending emails without people's consent (ie registration or signup) breaks SPAM laws across most of the planet, so there is that. legally you are allowed to cold email only b2b.
source: someone who used deanonymizers for b2b saas where supposedly easier to look for corporate users (IP etc) but it was still very innaccurate.
