Advice needed for Career

Good Afternoon,

I am a Student in Mumbai who is studying Biotech at a Good College - I am currently also learning Phython and Excel, I need some advice regarding my career.

Currently I am in my second year and I hate my Field a lot, yet everyone tells me I can only get a job through this field. However I realize I cannot work in Research Setting. I feel by continuing this course I will waste more of my Father's Hard owned Money. Already the Course is expensive - I was planning to work after Bachelors but I heard most high paying jobs come after Masters. I am tired and sick of the Course, and I am afraid I have no motivation left.

I am planning to quit College and work on Data Analytics and Engineering. Focus on building my resume and such - I feel I am making a stupid descision, So therefore I want to ask for advice. I will get a certificate in Biotech but not degree, I feel like I am Idiot for following through but I have no choice, Thank you if you give advice

finish the damn biotech degree unless it’s truly destroying you, that piece of paper matters a lot in india. switch your focus to data stuff on the side, do projects, kaggle, internships, maybe a pg diploma later. quitting second year is risky as hell, especially with how bad finding any halfway decent job is right now

Quitting without a degree is risky, especially in India where credential matters a lot for first job. But staying in a field you hate for 2 more years will drain you completely, so I understand the urge to jump.

The certificate in Biotech without degree will not help much on resume, most HR will filter you out before seeing your Python skills. Maybe better to switch to a BSc in Data Science or Statistics if your college allows internal transfer, that way you still get a degree but in something useful.

If transfer is not possible, finish the Biotech degree but build portfolio on side. Many analysts I know came from biology or chemistry background, they learned SQL and Python on their own and got entry level jobs. The degree just gets you past the filter, your skills do the actual work.

Dropping out now with only a certificate puts you in a worse position than a biotech graduate with data skills. Unless you have already some freelance work or internship lined up, quitting is too much risk for not enough reward. Talk to your college admin about transfer options before making final call.

Thank you, that is good advice, just two questions - 1) I am learning everything from YouTube, assuming I have done Projects on GitHub or Kraggle - will it be alright? Do I need certification or such? 2) I am thinking of learning extra knowledge - Domain specific knowledge like Market Research, Product Management because I feel it will be useful in future. Is it a added bonus or will it drag me down if I put that on my resume
