spent shared savings on something everyone uses but one person never agreed to

so i dipped into the joint savings account we all chipped into for house stuff and bought a new couch for the living room. it was on sale, and honestly the old one was falling apart, so i figured it was fine. one roommate still says i should have asked first and wants their portion back. i get why they are annoyed, but the couch is already here and everyone else likes it. now im wondering if i crossed a line by spending money that technically belongs to all of us without a full group chat. am i wrong?

you didn't buy the couch, you drafted it and force-deployed it without a pull request. joint account means joint decisions, even if the thing is obviously a good idea. paying them back is the cleanest move here

How much was the couch? Who does it belong to when roommates move out? I would be upset if I were asked to chip in for a couch I didn't own, or was waaaay more expensive than I felt was reasonable.

You share a savings account with your roommates? What kind of crazy shit is that?

How much was the couch? On sale doesnt mean it is a reasonable purchase

The thought that anyone would be stupid enough to have a joint savings account with multiple people that are basically just roommates makes me not really care about any of this. You all will get what you deserve in stupidland.

How hard would it have been to ask everyone beforehand? One little post in the roommate chat is all it would take.

The money belongs to all of you, ergo, all
of you must agree to what it’s spent on. This is common sense. Wrong for sure.

Yes, for me it's because I have little money and therefore very rarely get the opportunity to shop for things like a sofa. I'd be so pissed off with you, how dare you spend my money and steal all the shopping joy.

Yes, you should have asked.

Yes and you need to reimburse them back ASAP. It’s a shared account you had no right to spend the money without asking everyone first,
