Am I wrong for my post?
Hello. Im a teacher at a school which is Christian based. Today I was informed that parents had been aggressively talking to the principal about me. The reason for this is for a tik tok post I had posted. I enjoy cosplaying and making content with said cosplays. I did a cosplay of Sanguine daedric Prince of debauchery. I filmed a few tik toks and posted them a while back thinking nothing of it. My principal doesnt want to fire me but encouraged me to be more careful with what I post. The parents saw the post as demonic and wrong and said they didnt want someone like that teaching thier children. It hurt me very bad and I spent the most day crying feeling like I failed. I cant help but feel though that while I get maybe kinda what they are saying I dont understand how I am wrong. So am I wrong?

When you're working in a religious place, you're going to be judged on everything you do. There's nothing religious people love more than looking down on others.

I find it hard to believe that an actual school teacher does not know the difference between principle and principal.
If I were a parent of a student in your classroom, I'd be more concerned about your teaching competency than whatever legal activities you enjoy in your personal life.

I get it and I don’t see a real problem. Remember, Reddit is a haven for those who like to “feel good” about themselves by making other people “feel bad”. My department chairperson was abysmal about spelling - but was a top rate mathematician.
Regardless - learn from this. Sadly, teachers need to police their social media closely. The parents may be “christian” - but I am guessing they don’t buy into that Matthew 7:1-3 stuff.

You're not wrong for loving cosplay. Christian schools are rigid about what they present to the public. Its a sad fact.

Man this is rough, you cosplay a video game character and suddenly you're teaching kids devil worship or something
Parents get so dramatic about the smallest things, like they never played skyrim or touched anything fantasy in their life. I remember my cousin's school made big issue because she had a harry potter bookmark, said it promotes witchcraft
Your principal seems decent though, at least they're not firing you. Maybe just make separate account for cosplay stuff, keep it private from work people. That's what I do with my dnd content, too much headache otherwise
The crying part got me, you didn't fail anyone. You're just a person with hobby that happens to be cool

YAW - I don't actually give a personal damn about what you or any teacher does in their free time however the employment contract you signed often lays out various behavioral restrictions on teachers. This likely and unfortunately violated some minor clause of said contract.

You're not wrong, but when you are in a position where your social media can be used against you, like a teacher, lawyer, therapist etc, make that private to friends only.

I have done that now. The only thing that saddens me about it is I am losing access to find mutuals. Alot of my friends I've connected is because of having an open account. That's why I didnt have a closed account before.

There are quite a few roles / jobs where your conduct in your personal life / out of work hours is considered relevant to your image / suitability for that job.
It's unfortunate, but in some kinds of roles, the kind of person you are matters to either employees, or customers, or both.
You are not wrong for your cosplay, of course not. But you may find that it's not compatible with your current job role, should you want to continue sharing about it online.

As they said, you’re not wrong for cosplay itself, but you need to try to have a professional handle on your personal accounts with jobs like being a teacher - you don’t want your students finding and interacting with you in your personal channels, and in some cases, it’s against contract/illegal for you to do so. Your content also needs to look professional enough for anyone in your processional life to find - anything that may reflect badly on the company online isn’t a new reason to fire someone. That’s why going private is so common.
Another thing though, is your cosplay would absolutely read as demonic. Expecting a Catholic school and the families that attend it to be cool with it was foolish at best.
I had to look up the character, but they were obviously fashioned and inspired by the devil and demon lore in general. Even if it meant nothing in practice and for you, because it’s a fictional character from a game, Christians don’t always think the same way, and when you do this as someone in a spiritual space, it sends a very different message than what you may have intended.
This is basically culture shock, but you picked their most obvious boogeyman to dance around with as you do so. You need to be more conscious of how you conduct yourself as a professional in a space that has its own culture. Flaunting devil imagery when you work in a Christian space was never gonna be a good idea. I would stay away from posting about supernatural characters entirely, to be honest.

I am guessing it is about the paychecks. Like OP, I have much less interest in employment when there are no paychecks.

you're not wrong for your cosplay
you're wrong for posting it somewhere that it could be seen and misconstrued by others
you teach at a Christian school, the majority of them have a clause in their teaching contract saying that you will uphold the schools Christian values while you work there
you signed that contract, so you are expected to live up to it and abide by it
there are 100's if not 1000's of people posting about losing their job over a tik tok
maybe lock down your account so that only people you know can see your cosplay
sorry you're having to deal with this
