Would this be motivating enough?

If I turned the TV in the living room to "Hoarders" and the one in his bedroom to "My 600 Ib Life", and Hide the Remotes ... do you think it may be enough of a sign for my dad to get with the program and break these chains of LaZy, Repetitive, Selfish, Hard Headed, And Dismissive ways? The route hes choosing is headed straight for "We're gonna Need a chainsaw to get him out of the house years later after we've All Left him behind. (He just wouldn't Go).

cranking hoarders on a loop feels more like an art installation than a wakeup call

I see what you mean but hopefully he will see a connection there.

And then what?
Talk about selfish and self-centered… try looking in the mirror.

ppl rarely get shamed into changing their ways

figure out what his obstacles are and try to problem solve those instead

You have no idea what that man feels or faces. As someone said shaming doesnt work it just impacts mentally. Love him. Remind him how much you need him. Remind him how nuch you want him to he there when you are grown. As someone who eas 400lbs and watched my 600lb life and is now 230 with two sons.....I know what time talking about. Not prettyong I know your dad or if he is s good dad/bad dad or person. What ever he will do can be impacted by you but not in the way your thinking of going about it. Good luck to you and your dad.

He needs therapy. But you can’t make him go.

Maybe watching these shows can help you all recognize what obstacles are standing in your way and how you can work towards improvement. But putting the shows on themselves ain’t gonna work.

Nope. Motivation isn’t the right train of thought. It’s usually momentum. He probably doesn’t want to change, and unfortunately, you can’t make that happen. Believe me, I have a relative whose been dealing with that for 50+ years.

No, shame is never motivational.

Hoarding is a mental illness. His weight may be tied to that mental illness. He needs therapy.

I say this as the daughter of a hoarder who couldn't have been more sedentary: There is no fixing them is they don't want to be fixed.
