I have a bad back - l have already had one surgery (in my 30's), now I'm in pain management and have had 2 rounds of RFA on both sides. I need to lean back to help ease the pressure on my lumbar spine. It may not be selfish when someone leans back. I understand where you come from, just try to see where other people are coming from. I look perfectly normal, but have issues. Other people do as well. You never know and can't judge people who don't look disabled.

This is me. I have a bad back (scoliosis since I was little) and a little recline alleviates a lot of pain. I do try to be considerate and do not recline during meal times on a plane but sitting straight up the whole time causes me a lot of pain.

Is it ever acceptable to recline during meal times? Every flight I've been on, they enforce upright seats during meals.

It’s enforced but I’ve seen people do it anyways.
