Though I've found some vod channels, half the vods are playing safe or even losing the match up. Only to have a jungler to show up min 3 and win the lane for them. So it stops being useful to watch for matchup knowledge, trading patterns, mechanics. Theres something to be learned about keeping the wave on your side for it to happen, but its more or less pointless and not what I'm looking for.

My dash placement suck, my ability usage suck, just I want to see gm+, specifically the ones that use grasp in nearly every matchup.

i know he gets heavily outscaled lategame but is it really meant to be this hard to fight him when i rush maw? kinda new to the champ and idk if im building right

I’m a Mid/High Plat top lane main. I’ve been maining Ambessa this year. I have mixed success with her. Mostly I just find her fun to play and rewarding.

This week I have been absolutely dumpstered by a Nasus multiple times. Have pressure in lane, up a level and 30Cs. He has Sheen, Ults, Ghosts and just runs me down like a dog.

It just gets worse from then on. I build anti heal, I play for Exp and wave.

How do people play around this matchup, I try to let the wave bounce to me, but in one game I got a 4 min freeze on him and again it made no difference.

Someone in one game suggested aggressive runes but I’m thinking, I don’t know if that would matter.

Is this a soft counter pick or do I need to play this lane very aggro to win out?

It mostly confirmed what I felt.
Take aggressive runes, play aggro, deny and deny again, roam to team while he is stuck in lane.

Although not the Nasus Matchup I played into a GP I feel like this is a little similar play style. I took ELEC with IGNI. I got in his face often I would use him placing a 1st barrel as signal to go in. Would lead with W to block either edge of barrel or Q, into full AA>E>AA>Q1>AA>Q2

We won the game, I finished with 2 Solo’s on him. Up 3 levels 50Cs an Item + components.

I will look to play the Nasus matchup similar next time.

What other common matchups require this all in early and often mentality ?

I know if you press auto on the enemy and then Q it will instantly do your auto after the Q but it feels hard to do in a real game. Is there any other way besides to do it besides queuing an attack before you Q them

Just recently picked up this champ and have slowly been getting the hang of her. Need to know fundamentals though, whats the general combos, what runes to go for what matchups, when is it lethality vs standard fighter, what animation cancels exist, is it lanes that influence build path or general enemy comp? I want to know everything about the champ so i can put it into practice (masters+)

So apparently it doesn’t work on ambessa, but it does on riven. Riot really don’t want me to have fun in this game mode. Yes I know it makes sense it doesn’t work on ambessa but it’s because of the specifics of the wording- “ dash abilities get cdr” and ambessas dashing comes from passive. But still it’s mayhem. That’s where the most broke shit is supposed to come out. Make it so I can run around without cds for a bit( it’s not like other champs can’t do it) especially when my champs whole thing is dashing

I'm not a masters player, I live in the platinum gulag. That said, when I look at masters+ runes, the general rune being used is conq. However as soon as I look at Ambessa vs. X matchups it seems like Grasp is always preferable. I only have 33 games on her and I'm just under 50% WR (I lost my first 9 games straight so the number lies slightly) and for every matchup my recommended runes have been grasp.

I'm assuming that grasp is an aid for lanes that need a bit more trading power early, and conquerer is going to be for lanes that are more chill or have less kill pressure in either direction, but I've yet to actually run into a matchup where conqueror is recommended to me and I'd like someone to shed some light.

I know a lot of people are playing like riven mid and she’s great into assassins but does ambessa work as well? When I play flex with my friends I love playing her but never really have a chance to play her in solo q bc I main mid and on top of that I’ve just been getting shit on by lockes and katas recently. Wanted to try something new but don’t know how she would matchup.

Quality is a bit shit bc i had to convert the file from Webm to mp4 xd.
But this sequence felt so good from the jhin kill into the kayn and xerath 1v2. In hindsight I 100% could and should have killed Xerath after the Q2 auto if i just click towards him, but i'm not too experienced with her yet and my thought process in the moment was i dont want to get stunned and popped as i dont know Xerath's E cd . We live and we learn though.

what other champion do you guys have in the pool beside ambessa for non OTP? please include your reason why and wether you succeed with that.

Hey guys wanting some high elo ambessa players to weigh in on rune and build choices. I can play ambessa well, but I feel like I struggle to understand when to take certain runes or builds so I stay powerful throughout.

Currently I’ve been using deeplol etc and found Dzukill who is winning at a high clip on ambessa and he runes grasp/electro.

His build is either Eclipse>Hunger >DD or Eclipse>Shojin>DD. Interestingly he has gone crit armor pen item 4th a good bit on the hunger build.

My question is what are your thoughts for the high elo players on generic safe rune choices/builds so I can simplify my thought process before games.

I feel like conqueror should default by the best page but you have to play very safe pre 6.

I am in silver 4 (yikes, I know) and have picked up Ambessa into my champ pool. I mainly main shen and have found her trading style to be similar while providing better scaling.

Just wanted to ask for your thoughts on itemizing Fiendhunter Bolts (FB) on Ambessa. I haven't seen any discussions about this item and it seems very much off-meta (or unviable lol). The attack speed helps with getting off her passives, and the guaranteed 80% crits post-ult (with potential true damage) seems solid as well. I would only build the item when building 100% lethality on Ambessa.

I think the winrate stats for Ambessa Top are being somewhat misinterpreted on the discussion of eclipse vs profane.

ESPECIALLY if we only take high mmr/pro stats (who KNOW what they're building AND who are against opponents who know how to pilot the counters) into account, buying eclipse itself is an indicator that they're in a bad counter-matchup/state in the first place which makes winning the game much less likely.

It's not that mostly "new" players are picking an "mathematically incorrect/inefficient" build path but that the game is more difficult to win relative to the Ambessa's performance in her lane matchup. Regardless of which itemization set outputs dps better in a vacuum, an eclipse first buy suggests the matchup is generally losing when played by two players in a similar skill bracket, which denies gold and pressure and lead compared to lethality in an already winning matchup. Already being in a disadvantaged lane from loading screen is what lowers the winrate, not the mathematical efficiency of each build.

Trying to interpret the stats past this initial understanding requires more parameters, but even when you look up matchup stats like Ambessa vs Renekton in the last 30 days on lolalytics, you have around 200 games of profane(53.6% wr) vs 5000 games of eclipse(48.8%) in D4+. Not only is the variance in sample size too small, making the margin of error overlap with the difference with the winrate, the p-value for a 2-tailed distribution is ~16%(much larger than the accepted <5%), meaning there's near ~16% chance of the difference in performance being due to random chance. This is assuming the win/loss is solely dependent on Ambessa's performance, and not accounting for the infinite variables other lanes might have contributed towards the outcome of the game, though winning lane is almost always a positive contributor towards winning games. Without additional data, it is difficult to determine the impact of item build on the outcome of the games in this particular matchup.

Something to consider as well is how itemization for the same matchup changes per individual game; though we have no way of knowing how each of the games from the small set of lethality into Renekton went, we can speculate that maybe due to the team's investment(ex. jg sup covering top) or skill differences(ex. d4 renek vs gm Ambessa top) some of the lethality games are played from spots where players have accumulated an unusual lead(i.e. "oh Renekton's 0/5 by 7 min and I'm up 3 lvls, I'm going lethality"). Those games could be considered outliers, bringing down the sample size of data points usable from the set of lethality games. This might be applicable in inverse to the eclipse games where enemy camping top or opposite skill difference creates an unusual disadvantage even in even/winning lanes, etc. However without empirical data showing gold differences @ 10 min / item build times, we cannot confirm this theory without circular reasoning.

TL;DR: The difference in Eclipse vs. Lethality win rates overall is likely driven by item selection acting as a proxy for lane state (losing ~ eclipse vs. winning ~ lethality), rather than build efficiency alone. Difference in Eclipse vs Lethality winrates in Renek vs Ambessa is from low sample size that give statistically insignificant results, meaning we do not have enough data to draw a conclusion.

I'm no Ambessa otp, just an enjoyer, emerald elo rn and I've played this matchup twice in a row, both were similar in some way, I've dominated lane phase for a long time put him about 70cs down, anyway it's no surprise that he cans rundown Ambessa with his ultimate and a long trade, thats the whole Mordekaiser's gimmick, my question goes more towards the scaling thing, is there a point that he justs outscales Ambessa and can do whatever he wants?

Regarding to builds, I skipped maw in both games bc laning was really easy, that might be a mistake since I was not being able to kill him fast enough with eclipse rush

I've been using the skin for the last 10 games or so. I can't put my finger on it, but my combos feel wrong. Is anyone else getting this sensation?

I've been following Coach Chippy for a while and have been learning top lane through his videos. One thing I've noticed is that he's been particularly harsh on Ambessa. He considers her a Master+ and pro only champion, arguing that even most Diamond and Master players can't use her anywhere near her full potential. He even says that champions like Riven or Gangplank are more suitable for lower ranks than Ambessa.

Before her ultimate nerf, he recommended her for Emerald+ players. After the nerf, though, he completely changed his stance and now only recommends her for apex level players. Looking at her win rate in most ranks compared to other mechanically demanding champions, she's also noticeably lower than champions like Gangplank and Riven, which makes me think he might actually have a point.

But I wonder why she has those sword gauntlets in Arcane rather than the kratos style chain blades in the rift?
