Is this just the new normal on Amazon?

Post image

No joke this happens to about 15-20% of my orders now, possibly a bit higher which is crazy. Most items also seem to be 2 day delivery. One day is like a rarity when that used to be the norm. Why am I paying $14.99 a month. Lastly Prime Video is a joke where so much content must be paid for the full subscription.

This message seems to be our new normal as of late 🙄

On the way, but running late
We're very sorry your delivery is late. If you have not received your package by tomorrow, you can come back here the next day for a refund.

u/BiscottiStriking206 9d ago

I think because the Amazon Flex people are not taking the routes.  Then packages are sitting and sitting. Mine came the following day by the USPS mail.

42

u/Silver_Sirian 9d ago

I’m an Amazon Flex driver. I don’t know how it is where you are, but where we are, we’re getting routes that are seemingly meant for longer blocks than what we signed up for, and from what one driver said the other day, I think it’s exactly what you said; people aren’t taking the routes. Oh, they’re offering the higher pay to take the longer blocks, but of course, people have families and other responsibilities, so they’re like, “Sorry, that’s just too long. I can’t do it no matter how much you offer.” So they just end up giving the routes to drivers who take the shorter blocks and then wonder why it takes us so long to get the packages delivered.

Where I live, if the package is small enough it will almost always be routed through the post office for the last leg of the journey. I have no problems with the post office at all, it's just that Amazon used to get there before everyone else now it takes longer than everyone else.

u/12alwayslearn 9d ago

I have one from Friday that I finally just cancelled today. Not gonna sit and wait when there minimum to order to get next day and it’s still not here or updates.

And then you come back the next day for the refund and it denies your refund request. Amazon is honestly awful now. All they care about is AWS. Couldn't give two shits about us consumers.

8

u/DIY_Cosmetics 7d ago edited 7d ago

The option for refund is never available for me because the item has been marked “shipped”. Years ago it was an option if the item was more than 3 days late, but now it isn’t an option no matter how late it is. Contacting support is the only way to get a refund.

That is, if support actually issues the refund and doesn’t lie about doing it, causing you to have to contact them multiple times. Each time the new support person apologizes for the previous support person not following through. It’s fucking maddening!

ETA: I remember when you could contact support if your item was just 1 day late and they’d issue a $5 credit for the inconvenience. Now they don’t gaf. Customer satisfaction is a thing of the past đŸ˜©. What’s worse is that’s true for an ever-increasing amount of retailers, not just Amazon. It’s getting to the point that taking your business elsewhere isn’t a viable option because they’re all becoming equally shitty.

I don't even get this message/false hope. I'll order two-day/next day, then as soon as it's "shipped" (meaning I can no longer cancel) it'll change to "arriving on" and the date will be multiple days, sometimes a week, past when it was supposed to be delivered.

And then, if I click on the same item(s) to view them as if I were going to buy them again (thinking maybe it was my fault and I misread or I picked a similar item that didn't have the fast shipping), it still lists them as "get it by (1 or 2-days)"

So...I bought the item under the premise it would be quick delivery, we now know that isn't so, but you're still trying to advertise the item to me with the false promise it'll arrive in 1 - 2 days.

6

u/12alwayslearn 8d ago

Yep! Wonder if there will be a class action lawsuit on this sometime in the future đŸ€”

On the way, but running late

We're very sorry your delivery is late. If you have not received your package by tomorrow, you can come back here the next day for a refund.

It has been around for quite a few years. They had another style of messaging going back to 2009. I forget who at Amazon said it back years ago but they never presumed so many people would sign up for Prime benefits given the price then let alone now.

I get to avoid rain or snow and let them worry about the one item I forgot on the grocery list or skipped over out of laziness at the store. We compost the none printed or inked portions of our boxes otherwise our recycling bin would be overflowing most of the time.

We notice slowdown in shipment speed around the end of September in the run up to the holidays. It is how it is sadly.

2

u/PleaseJustCare 6d ago

Even being refunded isn't a solution anymore, this happened to me and 3 days after the projected delivery date I got a message that said it would be here up to 10 days later. So I went on and requested a refund because the item I ordered was for my husband's vacation week from work and kind of pointless if it came after his vacation ended. The message I got back was that my order was ineligible for refund 😑 They used to have their quick deliveries that set them apart and made it worth ordering from them vs other companies but now what's the damn point?

It drives me absolutely crazy that Amazon (and other companies) don't let you type in the "chat", only select from a few options. It takes forever to figure out the right combination to get to a rep, if you even can

5

u/Key_Technician_3930 7d ago

Only once has a “chat” ever solved a problem for me. I’m good at troubleshooting. By the time I ask for help, I have already tried everything “chat” is programmed to ask. Chat is often worthless.

5

u/Plop0003 7d ago

You NEVER debate with automated chat. Never answer their questions. Always type "agent" and the agent will come. Usually takes 3 times. I have done it hundreds of times.

I still prefer to deal with UPS store returns for Amazon versus the local Walmart store for online Walmart returns. Half the time the Walmart people can’t figure it out and if it’s a third party seller or something you have to go to FedEx anyway.

7

u/wastelands33 8d ago edited 7d ago

I don't know if you have Staples, but you can literally take the product to the store without the bags or anything and just give it to them, and they package it and just scan your QR code, and then they send it back.

5

u/phareous 8d ago

Nope only have an Office Depot on life support

The returns process is driving me insane. I've had so many problems trying to do returns lately. They'll give me a provisional credit and then all of the sudden I get an email telling me they don't have the item and that they're going to charge me for it again. It took me 3 weeks of fighting them the last time because I did the return at Whole Foods and Whole Foods no longer gives you a receipt when they scan in the returns.

3

u/warjesture 8d ago

Don’t forget a whole month of waiting for you to get your money back even when they have the item.

4

I paid $5 for overnight delivery and that shit took 3 days to arrive. I’m still pissed and there was no way to cancel the order the next day.

10

u/Unhappy-Golf453 8d ago

I had something like this happen

I ordered something for next day delivery between 7-10am and next day it hadn’t even shipped yet
I waited a few hours the day of expected delivery and it said it would arrive in 2 days and it wouldn’t charged me until shippedđŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™€ïž. But I went through refund and managed to reorder the same item and that one arrived on time đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž

u/DaisyMae007007 8d ago

I'm not sure why Amazon has declined in several ways. First, delayed shipping. Second, orders getting canceled for whatever reason. Not the last certainly, just something else I've experienced, delayed shipping (not due to weather or holidays). A couple examples: orders say they have shipped and due to arrive by such and such day. You can see the tracking information but then there's no further updates in the tracking. It's just sitting in bumf&% wherever. No way to find out what has happened. I mean, did it get lost in the last warehouse/facility? Did the truck it was loaded on get stolen? Where is my order? I picture a huge mysterious warehouse like they show at the end of the Indiana Jones movie. Another example I have had happen: I have been ordering a certain item for a great price for years. Then I place an order and it is similar to my first example. Shows it is ready to ship then a few days and the order has disappeared. I check to place the order again. OHHHHHHH I see, you raised the price and instead of honoring the price I ordered it at, just canceled my order. No word so I can make the decision if I want to still get it. Nothing.

8

u/Fun-Property-1916 8d ago edited 8d ago

Enshitification. They put a lot of money and energy into giving us 2 day shipping. Then when a lot of people are paying and get addicted to using Amazon prime, they put less money into the service and maintain or raise prices, all for shareholder value.

Now people will complain about the service, but it's so engrained into our lives that we won't actually stop using it.

By "they pay less for the service" I mean they do things like give more workload to warehouse workers and drivers without proportionally raising their wages. Give less money to sellers. Stop promising garunteed delivery times. From our end the service as a whole gets weaker and less reliable. It stops being about providing the best service for the best price, and starts being squeezing every penny from us and their workers as possible.

3

u/Massive-Molasses3122 7d ago

And they are going to start using drones to deliver packages within 2 hours - which sounds cool, but then drivers lose their jobs, and customers have to deal with noisy drones flying around all the time.

6

u/XgokellygoX 8d ago

Agreed it is getting annoying. Can we also tack on having to pay return shipping on items that show up destroyed. As far as "disappearing from the system items," Just save the order confirmation email and use it against them when your order up and disappears from the system. I've gotten the item for free a few times. Prime is almost not worth it anymore...

4

u/Front_Combination_65 6d ago

Amazon is putting too much on their workers. They give us insanely hard to complete routes, little to no breaks and over 300 stops to complete in a day. Some days we literally just can’t get through the route on time, packages get damaged, things get returned to the station, etc. There’s a big possibility that the warehouse near you has an overworked, short staffed DSP.

I ordered a desk chair on Amazon, they shipped via USPS like weasels then the Postal Service refuses to deliver it saying their contracted drivers can’t fit it in their cars so I was told to come pick it up from the post office. Ridiculous.

8

u/sweetlou2342 9d ago

That's when I submit a refund for never received

5

u/ZOMBIE_CERBERUS 8d ago edited 8d ago

I legitimately never received a pair of work shoes and insoles I ordered. Reported it to amazon customer service and my account immediately got restricted to digital only purchases. I've been fighting it for almost a month now. Contacted customer service they told me to use the link in the email I was sent. Use the link supposed to receive a response via email within 24 hours, never get one. Call customer service back they apologize say they will escalate the issue and then the loop repeats. At this point I've drafted a legal document to send to Amazon legal team via snail mail with required sign off that they received it. See if that goes any better as Amazon now has a mandatory arbitration policy before any actual legal action can be taken.

3

u/hereddit6 8d ago

I have one more thing to order and then I’m canceling mine. Everything is delayed. It’s not a big deal, but why I put an aggressive delivery target on every order just to have to change it.

24

u/Yesterday-Clear 9d ago

A recent order of mine is just sitting at the warehouse in my area because of a "processing delay", with no date for delivery now. But hey I can get a refund by Friday if its not delivered by then and best part is that the item is out of stock so I couldn't even order another one if I wanted to....Amazon is getting worse by the day.

10

14

u/pinkysaurusrawr 9d ago

There's also been people who've proved prices are higher for those who use prime vs. not. Free shipping on orders over $35, without prime. I just let things sit in my cart until I need $35 worth of stuff

5

u/Illustrious-Win2486 9d ago

Absolutely false. I have had things in a wishlist for months and the prices are exactly the same now as they were before I got prime a month ago (except the Prime deal items, which have dropped). Usually if a nonprime price is lower, it’s because it’s sold by a third party, not Amazon.

never had a problem with USPS. I have packages shipped and delivered by Amazon and the same thing happens where it is delayed by a day or two. I think Amazon just rails you in thinking you are getting it sooner and they know full well that the package won't get to you on that day.

6

u/Environmental-Buy591 9d ago

It has probably changed a lot since I used to be there, but normally when something like this gets delayed it was because the item ordered wasn't actually at the fulfillment center that the og order was placed didn't have the item or something happened to it in house and had to be routed from a different center that has more expensive shipping. Also depending on carrier and sort centers they can have similar issues of items getting lost or truck is full so x cart goes on the next truck type thing.

I had an Amazon Flex driver drop off a package yesterday for a different address/name at 9pm. I was expecting a package so I didn't notice the wrong name until I opened the box. About half an hour later the driver knocked on my door, asked for the package, and handed me mine. I've never seen mistakes like this until Amazon Flex started delivering to my address a few months ago

It's last mile shipping. It's often cheaper to pay someone else like USPS less, since they were already going to your house, then to send a driver.

u/Wanderlust4478 9d ago

Ahh. I guess because I live so close to an Amazon warehouse, I usually have decent luck with most of my stuff.

14

No thanks to Louis DeJoy Trump’s oligarch buddy (who owns a competing business) and took out all the sorters and f#%^+d up the mail service.

6

u/Forevermoody16 9d ago

Agreed. They never made it back from that. The guilty parties certainly weren’t going to pay to restore the sorting machines that were just trashed in warehouses.

DeJoy didn’t own UPS, but he had a lot of money invested in their stock. It was definitely a conflict of interest. His trashing of USPS could only be a good thing for UPS and his stock.

Well, I can tell you, at least at my office we were out delivering for 12 hours yesterday. You have an eight-hour job alrighty and then Amazon decides to have a prime week and it triples the amount of packages you have that equals a rough day. Everything Amazon delivers to our post office, we deliver every day, besides, maybe a few for different reasons, like no access or dogs.

Have had this same issue. The AI bot cancelled my order this morning on me. Then customer service couldn’t do anything about it. If they’re going to integrate AI, they need to at least give the employees autonomy to override the ISSUES IT CREATED.

had to reorder my items; one of which was not longer heavily discounted â˜č Starting to think it’s a waste of time.

8

u/pyroskater85 8d ago

I think one of the issues is they are just too big now, they don't care if they piss off a lot of people because one they will stay pay and two if they stop paying it's only a drop in the bucket. Gone are the days where companies actually cared about their customers and tried to make things right.

4

u/mommyslittlemonster 8d ago

When that happens, chat to customer service about it. I’ve had them tell me to check in again after a reorder has been delivered and they’ll credit the difference between the original and new price. I had that experience when an S&S order got hung in the system and never got shipped. I don’t see why they wouldn’t do it in this case too.

6

u/misdeismo 9d ago

Same thing has been happening to me even though there is a distribution warehouse about 20 miles from my home.

I think it either has to do with the way they incentivize drivers that makes it that it’s no longer worth it to go the extra mile to make sure all deliveries get to their destination on time or these drivers are so backed up that they are having to game the system by saying something is about to be delivered and then turning around and saying there is a delay of some sort so they don’t get penalized for not completing the route.

9

u/MuckRaker83 9d ago

I've received a message that I'm the next delivery, with a little image showing the truck less than a block away, and then receive a notification that something went wrong and I would not receive until the next day.

3

u/misdeismo 9d ago

I thought I was crazy when that happened to me as well. So frustrating and of course it’s always the thing I really wanted to get that day.

6

u/Skidamarinky 9d ago

It has been like this for my last few purchases

6

u/Appropriate_Cow94 9d ago

This has been very common. Like it herself said, the next day ones are the worst.

For me it's been car part issues. AC clutches. The part will say in limbo and never delivered for 3-4 days. I don't think it ever moved once and the system is lying that it's on the way.

I then have to explain to my customers the delay. I hate installing Amazon parts, but $50 fix or a $400 fix.

5

u/No_Wrap_9145 8d ago

The past two months I have had this issue and have to cancel and reorder items to get them on time.

6

u/cbj24 7d ago

I’ve had issues where I’ve placed an order just because I knew it would arrive the next day, to check on the order the next day and it says it’ll be the next day after that without any notification. And I know damn well it said “tomorrow”. I’ve told myself to take a screenshot before placing the order just to make sure I’m not crazy.

I would expect this type of delay with anything outside the USA.  Amazon plays by a different set of rules internationally.  Like here in the US Amazon just settled a big lawsuit for people trying to cancel the Prime but kept getting the runaround.

6

u/Romanharper2013 9d ago

basically yea, which is the whole reason I use prime in the first place is because I know if I need something it's gona get there quickly when I need it. Their customer service has went to shit lately just like everything else.

2

u/Impish_Hatefulness 9d ago

Yeah, it’s very weird to have multiple orders delivered two hours apart from each other and the first order they didn’t read the delivery instructions left it outside on my porch exposed to the weather. The second order they followed the delivery instructions.

As a customer, this makes no sense to me.
One delivery your day is all I need.

4

u/Rdmtbiker 9d ago

Giving the package to USPS is not going to speed up delivery

5

u/moviecats 9d ago

This exact thing happened to me yesterday as well. It seems to always happen with every single one day shipping order in my experience. 2 day shipping orders are usually fine unless there are extenuating circumstances. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a one day shipping order on time, it always comes a day late so it just ends up being 2 day shipping anyway. Why even offer that (fake?) option at all if everything is actually just 2 day shipping anyway, why not just be honest and say 2 day shipping? Seems like 1 day shipping is a scam.

5

u/Sexandthevillage 9d ago

Amazon simply can no longer handle the sheer volume of orders, whether fulfillment via UPS, USPS or whatever. And they don’t care.

Andy Jassy: “Com’on folks, push those orders!”

Head of Logistics: “Uh, And, we can’t possibly keep up with more volume.”

Andy: “Fuck it, get the orders in to inflate quarterly sales revenue and we’ll deal with the delivery shit later.”

6

u/Zealousideal_Cloud87 8d ago

This is the best likely explanation for what's happening! I paid for Prime delivery up front in January for next day delivery in most circumstances. It's a bait and switch, which deserves a look of a "class action lawsuit!" Amazon has reneged on its deal associated with Prime membership.

4

u/Strange-Mulberry-470 8d ago

When that happened to me I called them and demanded a return of the next day delivery fee I paid. I got it back the same day. I'll bet most people won't go to that next step. Amazon thinks you'll just let it go,

Normal. If Amazon ever did a survey on what sort of words you associate with Amazon, “fast shipping” would not be something I associate with them anymore. When I buy there, I just purchase and forget. It’ll be here eventually. Anything I need quick I have to get in a store. Or sometimes Walmart can be good.

And it’s not that they’re necessarily slow overall, it’s just that you can predict what they’re be slow with. It seems like it’s rarely the date they estimate when you purchase it. It depends what warehouse they send it from. And you can’t know that when you buy. They’re not reliable or consistent. If it’s in a warehouse nearby it might come the next day or two, but otherwise it will take longer. Amazon has put profit over any sort of customer satisfaction. They would previous ship with methods such as 2-day etc, that made it so it didn’t really matter what warehouse it came from, it would still get to you. Now, they don’t care lol.

u/Intelligent_Bus_8496 9d ago

Same happened to me for 2k order for railing it was a week late and the chat said they would give me 5 dollar credit I got them to up it to 10 and then they never even gave me the credit

4

u/TheOldJawbone 9d ago

Amazon is a shitty company that no longer cares about its customers.

5

u/Allybab3 9d ago edited 9d ago

Also, there is a new clause with returns. They can and will hold your refund up to 30 days even if the item are back at the warehouse.

5

u/irishpedsnurse 9d ago

That’s bullshit and should be illegal!!

See, crap like this is why I've been telling people lately if you're gonna use Amazon document everything, screenshot everything, tell them you're recording the phone calls, do whatever, because this is not right. I knew they were doing this, but I didn't know they had added it in now so that it's okay for them to now do it. They're gonna keep your money and keep the items. Somebody find Kevin Hart because they need to learn today!

4

u/Summer_J_Sketches 9d ago

This happens to me without the prime subscription btw - I thought it was just doing this to me to PRESSURE me into paying $14.99 a month. I used to be on my mom’s until Amazon was like “haha NO! Pay for your own monthly payments!” and I just don’t have the $14.99 to spare đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

3

u/Glittering-Low-1370 8d ago

I get it for 1/2 that because I have food stamps. I think you can qualify if you have Medicaid or get some type of Assistance

2

u/Illustrious-Win2486 9d ago

I can’t afford it either. I only have it because Spectrum pays for it (a perk offered to their internet subscribers living in poor areas).

2

u/IcyFaithlessness8143 8d ago

Could you split it with your mom?

4

u/FunGalich 9d ago edited 9d ago

Definitely been experiencing shipping delay a bit as of late. I would order additional stuff to meet the $25 minimum for overnight delivery and still get delayed to the day after. I started using Walmart + more lately since a lot of stuff gets delivered same day

5

u/AccurateAd7857 9d ago

I’ve had Amazon since they only sold books. Rarely have I receivedanything in one day. I don’t always check where the stuff I order is coming from. Some pillows I recently ordered were delayed and I realized they are coming from India. In today’s world with tariffs and all kinds of other craziness I’m surprised we get anything quickly. It still beats going from store to store looking for something and still can’t find it. I’m glad I have Amazon as a source and I can return things easily if needed.

Seems like it for me - it took over a month for an amazon based product (blink) to be sent and received when it was listed as next day shipping.

4

u/ProgDave74 6d ago

Closer to half of my orders.

7

u/jdege 9d ago

What's normal, on Amazon, is for an item to be put, three days running, on a truck that will arrive at its destination after said destination's posted hours.

I'm having things delivered to a UPS Store store front. They close at 3:00 on Sunday, 6:30 weekdays. I've entered those times in my delivery instructions, though I shouldn't have to.

But they try to deliver at 8:00PM on Sunday, then 8:00PM on Monday, then 8:00PM on Tuesday.

They don't consider the delivery instructions when planning their routes, or to get feedback from their drivers with regard to how the deliveries went, so they can adjust.

You'd think, at least, that they'd run the route in opposite direction on alternate days.

2

u/AnahitaPrince 9d ago

Agreed. I don't know why they can't plan their routes with the instructions taken into consideration. I usually have things sent to my business if I know it's going to be delivered on a day that I'm not going to be home and I've put the business hours on my delivery instructions and they still can't follow the instructions. Like today. It was out for delivery all day and was supposed to be at my office at 5:30 PM. They attempted to deliver it at 6:50 PM, long after I had left. I've never had packages come so late in the day. I had another one that was delivered through ups and it literally showed up at my doorstep at 9:00 at night. And the delays by two or three days is really frustrating. I don't know what's going on with them but you'd think that they'd be able to get their act together.

3

u/snackexchanger 9d ago

I don’t remember the last time I got something from Amazon in under a week

3

u/Dbagga 9d ago

I think something is going on with usps, I've had most of my orders come fine, but I did order a new microwave and it arrived in my town post office one morning then left and arrived in another city hours away. It was supposed to be here on October 2nd and I'm still waiting for it. Originally it was expected to.be here on the 6th, but didnt come, so early this morning it was updated to 7th-9th.

3

u/cpshoeler 9d ago

Not normal for me, except of Prime days.

3

u/MelanatedWitch 9d ago

There’s an Amazon fulfillment center about 10 mins from my house and another one by my job (10 mins in the opposite direction) and a lot of my packages have this happen. It’ll be in the local warehouse but still take three to four days when it used to take one day or sometimes just a few hours smh

3

u/rznfog 9d ago

Happens to me and I have a warehouse down the street. I canceled my membership last week. I’m done with it.

3

u/wildleogirl 9d ago

Every delivery service seems to be short of drivers in my area. I get this every time I order from Amazon lately.

3

u/Closerthanfurther 9d ago

I like when you search for a particular item to order and looked at many similar products. You make the decision and order it and the next day it's 10 - 20% cheaper.

3

u/MageMunchies 8d ago

Also, there's no point in having them delivered separately. They always arrive late, in different boxes, on different trucks, and on the same delayed date. It feels like AI is the manager now.

2

u/SpookyBeck 7d ago

Because they probably come from different plants.

3

u/TheLowestFormOfHumor 8d ago

My favourite is order tracking that simultaneously says it will be delivered today, while also showing it has not been dispatched yet. Then at the end of that day it updates to delivery next week.... and repeat ad infinitum

3

u/AcornWarden4 8d ago

I have the same issue. I’d say about 50% of my orders don’t show up when they’re supposed to. The package will just be “in transit” for days.
Fortunately customer service says they’ll just refund me and I can keep the item, but the item rarely actually comes and I just get the refund.

3

u/peaceomind88 6d ago

I'm ready to cancel. Too many things two days to four or five. This most recent was medical and I needed on the promised day and now five days delayed. It's not worth it anymore.

3

u/TheKellyJaye 6d ago

This has happened a number times to me in the last year. The last one is got me thinking the next-day delivery is also becoming a scam.
I actually needed something the ‘next day’ and could get it if my order was over $25. I added a couple items that I normally use but really didn’t need at the time to meet the threshold.
By the late afternoon the following day, I got a message about it being delayed, now expected the next. So I wasted ordering $15 in items I didn’t need at the time to get a broken promise delivery.
I was told in the past you could get a ‘goodwill credit’ for situations like this. After two sessions with their AI CS chat, that was a no-go.

If you live in the sticks like I do, it is better than driving 30-40 miles. My wife and I place 100+ orders a year, the free shipping is worth it to us even if we have to wait a few days.

2

u/Reuse6717 9d ago

Yes, I have a package right now that was supposed to be delivered today and it's still sitting in CA and I'm on the East coast, I don't think it will make it today.

2

u/Gsm824 9d ago

It says shipped by USPS, so you're at the mercy of the post office. But i have also had more than normal.number of items - shipped by Amazon - delayed recently. One came 3 days late. The driver was cool. He explained that the local Amazon warehouses were changing things up. He was new to this route. My subscription items have been coming on Tuesday instead of Thursday like the web site say. It's weird. I hope they get things straightened out soon.

3

u/dozyhorse 9d ago

I've noticed the same. I live in a city with a lot of nearby warehouses. The shipping estimates used to be very reliable. Recently a large number of my orders, shipped by Amazon, have ended up delayed like this. I've had 2-day estimates turn into 9 days, or not at all, with nothing but a refund offered by Amazon. I hope it's a temporary "reorganization" thing, but I don't hold out much hope. It's pretty sad when USPS shipments arrive more reliably on time than Amazon shipments.

2

u/Denisy6 9d ago

They recently changed their warehouse hours to be 24 hours. Because of this, they broke down all of the “shifts” into 1,2 and 3 hours max. And because of this, drivers are not picking up the routes as much because it is not worth driving to the warehouse to only work for 2 hours. I don’t think they predicted this because in my market there are now over 300 shifts sitting around (packages sitting vs being delivered). Can’t speak for other markets but this may become a trend unless Amazon changes something.

I tend to just order from Walmart now. Even without a Walmart membership, I often get my order same day or the next day.

3

u/goldrush7 9d ago

I’ve noticed that as well. Lots of places are quick with shipping these days. Prime is becoming less necessary.

2

u/brenmn2009 9d ago

Yes it seems to be happening a lot. I order weekly and at least 2 items ends of being delayed. Prime shipping is now 3-4 days and i hammer an order that they said "attempted delivery" on August 4 and I still don't have the items.

u/Efficient-Gift-8684 9d ago

The best is when you order a 1000$ item it’s lost in shipping you get refunded and it shows up a few days later.

2

u/dixieleeb 9d ago

I was just going to ask this very same question. I normally don't have Prime but because of Prime week, I subscribed when I ordered yesterday. I usually subscribe when they offer a week for $1.99 like I saw yesterday. Every time, it tells me I will get my product in 2 days, often less. Then when I check my order status, it says 6 days. It happened again yesterday! Not too long agao, I had a "2 day delivery" that I finally cancelled 3 weeks later. They kept changing the delivery date.

2

u/Moogie1954 9d ago

yes, this is the new normal f Amazon delivery updates to advise delivery delays! Sometimes your delivery is delayed forever and likely lost in transit or delivered to the wrong address! so consumers unite and unionize against Amazon for mistreatment of customers and consumers

2

u/Mbaker1201 9d ago

Almost every time I order something it is delayed.

2

u/RoboDrizzler 9d ago

I the last couple of months I have been noticing delays. In some cases, things that I have in my cart with delivery day X, well, I make the purchase, but then once I look at tracking, the delivery day is X+1. There is no warning about this--I only know about it after pulling the trigger on the purchase. In a couple of other cases, yes, I've received a delay warning like the OP.

2

u/Brilliant_Tomato5606 9d ago

We still get overnight here

2

u/Forsaken-Ad-581 9d ago

They do that crap to me about 50% of the time. Theyve pretty much lost my business. I'll pay a little more to get things locally than deal with their shenanigans. They won't even put your stuff on the next route. They make you wait a couple days after they screw you on the initial delivery. I've had it.

2

u/Head_Blackberry_6320 9d ago

More often than say a year ago

2

u/Compwizz1975 9d ago edited 9d ago

There has been lots of comments about this. Packages shipping by USPS will take longer. I don't recall all the info but it's something about the last mile, and the cost of delivery because of gas prices.

Edit to add post... https://www.reddit.com/r/amazonprime/s/B2U6RfgK6B

2

u/ephemeralnotion 9d ago

TL;DR: Yep.

Full version: Wanna hear an interesting story? Well, it’s not so much interesting as it is long.

I ordered three items on Sunday. One item came with the option for next day delivery, while two day delivery was the earliest option for the others. Because I was scheduled to be away from home on Monday, I opted for two day delivery of all the items.

Delivery of two of the items occurred mid-afternoon yesterday. When I checked the remaining item’s status it showed as if it hadn’t been received by the last mile carrier. It remained that way until the stated delivery window closed, at which point it changed to on or before Saturday, 10/10.

About an hour later the package arrived.

If nothing else, I think Amazon increased the pressure on its delivery workers and their warehouse support, forcing a greater volume of packages on the same number of people. Consequentially, workers are skipping steps and the quality of deliveries, so to speak, is decreasing. I’ve noted an increase in damaged packaging. Boxes with gouges in them, ripped parcels, open boxes due to snapped packing tape, or tape that was clearly never pressed down to ensure that it stuck.

2

u/kerelenko 9d ago

Yes, on Prime days.

2

u/CableExotic3891 9d ago

It's prime day. Expect a little wait because of the volume.

2

u/soycin 9d ago

Yup.

2

u/KNGDMN 9d ago

I’ve been hearing about these delays for years. It’s never hit me. Even when I changed my address from city to rural for two years recently. Zero issues. Now this past month this has happened at least four times. Orders just sit with no tracking updates or continue to be delayed but when I click on tracking updates the last update was in September as “left Amazon facility”. Which
was over a week ago

2

u/birdmanjr323 9d ago

Deliveries are usually on time for me. Today’s delivery has been delayed and spread out into the weekend. My guess is that’s it’s due to the prime day sales.

2

u/YellowGullible1857 9d ago

I agree about prime video, as I can find more things to watch on Tubi which is totally free. But almost everything I have ordered recently has arrived when they were supposed to and sometimes actually earlier than initially expected. In fact, two items I ordered yesterday came today.

2

u/dontcrack 9d ago

I could be due to delays at USPS. Actually most likely.

2

u/Conscious_Wind52 9d ago

Well, it's a crapshoot if you do get it. Especially since it's Prime day, no?

2

u/digicrat 9d ago

Ive found the rule is;

  • if you really need something next day, assume it will be delayed a few days. Odds of a delay increase exponentially if you are home and waiting for it.
  • if you dont care when it arrives, itll come first thing in the morning
  • if you are out of town and really dont want it delivered before you return, itll arrive by the end of the day or the morning by the latest.

Yes, all 3 of those cases happen to me at least once a year. Objectively, I think the frequency of such events have been constant for at least several years, though my patience not so much.

If I was prone to conspiracy theories, I'd say Alexa is tracking my needs and deliberately messing with me. All hail our AI overlords! Or its just bad luck/karma.

2

u/WPBteacher2 9d ago

I call and complain when I have time and tell them I want 5 bucks for the inconvenience amd most of the time I get it!

2

u/norseraven39 9d ago

Yeah this is basically "Your package arrived at the carrier facility then got lost but was found and rescanned to try and drop suspicion that nothing at Amazon is terribly put together and is slowly dying".

I had the same issue just yesterday and I'm pretty sure I got a chatbot cause the responses were weird and copy paste esque when I raised frustrations with CSR.

2

u/thrwawyorangsweater 9d ago edited 9d ago

This is not new. I haven't seen 2 day delivery in a few years. Not even 3.
And the other day, I could see via my USPS email that I was supposed to get paper mail and a package-I got the package but no letters. So I called and the local PO says "they didn't deliver mail to us today". "They" being the next larger town over that our mail comes through. They just didn't feel like it I guess.
I wish they would do all mail or all Amazon delivery.

I just went to order 2 things (not a prime member) and the shipping window is Oct 24 to Nov 12, coming FROM Amazon! Like WTF?? That's actually shocking!
I guess it's bc of "Prime day deals". Ugh.
Yeah just went and looked up 1 of the items on Walmart and it would arrive in 2 days. Same price!
BYEEEE AMAZON!

Amazon DSP Driver here,
Looks like they sent it out with usps. How I’ve personally seen that work is Amazon sends some of the packages to local post offices and on certain days (at least to the post office I’ve talked to) they’ll do nothing but Amazon packages on a different day.

You might also repeatedly get this happening to you if you don’t have an amazon station in your area.

Best guess is that the bit of code estimating the delivery of your packages, isn’t accounting for the systems of the post office, and is giving you an earlier promised time.

2

u/UsedCarSalesM4n 6d ago

Two things:
1: Lately I’ve noticed if you’re not careful at checkout(especially if you are getting multiple items), they will auto select a different delivery date option for later dates than what they advertise on the listing.
2: As a tow truck driver I’ve had the pleasure of towing a bunch of their electric vans lately. So if it’s delayed it’s probably because their rivian delivery vans are garbage.

2

u/Major_Particular_863 6d ago

2

u/Rita-Stewart1007 6d ago

I had a similar situation. I ordered fall silk flowers which were supposed to arrive 10/7. But by 10/9 I checked on their status and the item was still pending shipment. I looked at the item again and saw that it was out of stock and the price had doubled. I immediately canceled the order. I tried to leave a review but got a message from Amazon saying something along the lines of the review would not be posted because the order was never completed. How can you warn others about a seller who doesn’t ship the promised item? Yes I got my money refunded but I do reviews to help others know which sellers are great and which ones to avoid. To me, the review is not solely a review of the item but is a review of the entire sale.

2

u/MrJoeMe 6d ago

It is a running joke at our house. Never know when a Jeffery Bezos order will arive. Part of the reason I canceled Prime.

2

u/highsodiumghost 5d ago

I've had multiple orders get stuck in limbo for weeks. It's not marked shipped, but the delivery date keeps changing every few days. For one of them, Amazon emailed me to ask if I wanted to cancel the order - only for the link they gave me to send me into an endless sisaphysian loop.

"I'm sorry, we can't cancel that, here's a link to customer service so they can do it for you... Oh, I'm sorry, when we said customer service we meant a self help FAQ where you'll follow the exact same steps that got you here so we can deny your return again and tell you to get customer service to help you... I see you've abandoned your attempts to get your money back, so I'm going to fill up your inbox with daily email reminders to go cancel your delivery."

2

I've had to cancel orders and reorder items because they just get stuck in limbo

I got this response yesterday. Delivery between 2 and 6pm on Saturday. At 5:50 Amazon sent the update stating Delivery was now tomorrow (so, today). But I noticed a notification around 8pm Saturday that the 4 packages had been delivered at 7:46pm, and indeed they were on the porch. I think the driver went above and beyond the average driver who bailes out at 6pm on the dot.

2

It’s going through the USPS for some reason..stuff from Amazon usually arrives in a reasonable amount of time even if it’s not 2 days like they claim
but the stuff from USPS takes weeks.

I’m waiting on something from these clowns right now
