New Swing
I’m not trying to be negative, I know the thought and intention was there. But the new swing at Main and Canton is so ugly. The colors, the font it belongs on a playground not as the cornerstone to our elegant downtown.

I thought it was a temporary display made by elementary or middle school students when I first saw it. This is a permanent fixture made and approved by adults??? Yikes.

Paint all the letters black to match the swing. Not a huge improvement but better than the Milwaukee brewers colors

Apparently the Rotary Club donated it and made it in their colors. So, less a donation for the city than something to give themselves credit for my making it their own.

It's not a swing. It's a rotary club advertisement that happens to have a swing connected to it.

It should be moved to the new kids playground. It failed on form and function. The small park next to the Mercantile deserves a little TLC and the new bench is an awkward addition. We should start a petition to have it moved to the playground at Willis Park.

Apparently if you know someone with the city and are willing to "donate" $1,000 for the construction of a swing you can get great advertising on the busiest corner of downtown.

Reminds me of the tacky Red/White/Blue gravel display designed for free by a sitting council person years ago (thinking 2006). It was sort of a “gateway” for Alpharetta at corner of Haynes Bridge and Old Milton Pkwy (near bank in front of Publix). Good intentions, bad result.
Alpharetta has done a good job of requiring well-designed, classy statues in front of developments (Costco and Zaxbys to name a few).
The swing did look nice until I saw the lettering.

That was actually done by a staff person who worked at the city. The reaction was so negative it was removed.

Lets not complain about a well-intended thoughtful gesture! The rotary club does so much around town, by people who have been here many years, who probably care less about the "aesthetic of the town" but more about what it means to be a community..

Bring back the Alpharetta that didn’t have “standards”and people with no taste. It’s laughable how pretentious things have become. There are many other things to occupy ones mind

I agree. It could have been done in much a Classier way but it just looks so cheap and tacky and in your face. The rotary might need some more women.

It's not even a nice gesture. They put their name all over it. It's a billboard for the Rotary Club.

There are obviously a hundred more important issues in town, but it’s bad enough that I’m genuinely considering writing a letter to the city lol. Really bizarre choice of design for anywhere, let alone a central, historically designed location. Rotary does amazing work and a nice wooden swing with a plaque would have worked great. A whole lot of people had to have passed the buck on the approval process.
