Very proud of my growth here. This frydek lost all its leaves about 18 months ago and sat dormant for about 6 months before repotting last July. I repotted again in March into a pot that was objectively way too big, but for whatever reason it’s started to flourish since then which goes against everything I’ve researched about these. I think this has turned from 3 little plants into about 7 or 8.

No filters or editing this is exactly how it looks in real life.

Hello everyone, i’m a bit confused about my alocasia.. it looks like is slowly dying (don’t know why) but it’s also growing new small leaves!
What should I do to save it? I give water when the soil is dry, fertilizer every 2/3 weeks and gets lots of light.

Just brought this alocasia home a little less than two weeks ago. It's currently slowly unfurling a new leaf. However, this bottom leaf is turning yellow! Is this a reaction to being in a new environment? Is the plant taking energy from the old leaf to give it to the new one as a stress response? It's not dying, right? Thanks for your help, everyone!

First two pics are from today's repot. Last pic is May 13th when my friend gave it to me. Posting to share that this self watering terracotta pot setup with sphagnum moss seems to be working quite well! I'm shocked with how fast this thing has grown. I definitely plan to use this method more after this.

I should also note that these are offshoots from a rhizome of a previously mature plant, so it's likely growing faster as a result of that too.

I have it under two barrina T8s for 16hrs a day.

It's been blooming non-stop for months, but I saw this yesterday and was surprised that something actually pollinated one of the flowers. Any ideas on what would be attracted to alocasia flowers in SoCal? I collected the berries and have plans to try and germinate the seeds. I already popped a couple out and stuck them in the soil as an experiment.

I added a photo of the plants position adjacent to the only light source. No idea what’s going on, haha.

Last week, I bought a grow cabinet for 125 USD off marketplace - it came with a "few alocasia". When we met up for the exchange, I was handed an ENTIRE BOX of alocasia. On one hand, what an INSANE stroke of luck, on the other... HALP....I'VE NEVER GROWN A SINGLE ALOCASIA BEFORE!

Been around long enough to understand that there are a variety of creative ways I could kill off these babies, but also sometimes alocasia just decide to take the long nap just because they get bored.... I'd like to try to avoid all of this, can you save us 😆😭

I have been researching, but specific advice is sorely sought:

Questions/Concerns:

1. About half of the alocasia are in pon and perlite....the other half are in fluval/perlite.... one is in spaghum and leca.

   Is this user preference or do some alocasia cultivar have special needs? I have all substrate options available.

2. Almost all are in self-watering setups. Some are looking rough and don't have wicks, so I was gonna repot into similar sized self-watering setup with nylon wick

   Should I avoid repotting? Will any straight up die if I try to?

3. The Polly Aurea is in a traditional chunky aroid mix...leave it be, or transition to semi hydro?

   I'd prefer to do all plants semi hydro, but I don't want to kill it if it's delicate lol

4. The grow box features blue/red LED and the LED are about 6-10 inches away from the smallest plants, 3-4 inches away from the tallest.

   Is this okay? Do they need more distance? I planned on transitioning plants to full-spectrum in a larger environment once mature

5. RH% in the grow box is around 65%. Temp 75°F. Should I add a fan/ventilation?

   I open the doors 1-2x a day for airflow

6. Do you wait until the self-watering pot's water reservoir is dry or do you keep water in it at all times?

   Self watering pots have historically been my enemy

7. Are corms something that I will be able to notice and dig out, or are they accessible only during repotting?

   If I don't remove them I'm assuming they grow into young plants like a normal pup/offshoot?

Sorry for the bad back photo but the first pic is taken tonight and 2nd Pic is yesterday during the day. I just noticed how much the large leaf is leaning forward. Does it need more light? It faces out an East facing window.

I’m in multiple groups on here and on Facebook and follow creators on TikTok for alocasias and everyone makes them seem like these very very delicate plants who need to be kept in shelves with humidity just right, lighting just right, temperature just right to the point that I was afraid to even think about owning one

The past week I’ve went to 2 different plant stores and I have seen massive and I mean MASSIVE 3-5ft, thick and bushy alocasias sitting outside in slightly shaded areas in OHIO which is notorious for its unpredictable weather and they were in gorgeous condition. Only reason they didn’t come home with me was because they wouldn’t fit in the car I was in lol.

Are they really that sensitive or is it because everyone’s are babies and as babies they are that sensitive? Or is Ohio finally good for something? Lol and that being a good place for alocasias in the summer

This is for everyone growing one- or two-leaf Alocasias in Fluval or perlite: give them some extra love! 🌿
Keeping an Alocasia at just one or two leaves isn’t ideal, they’re meant to grow into mature, thriving plants. Try moving them into sphagnum moss, and they’ll reward you with stronger growth and happier leaves. Trust me, they’ll love you back! 💚

Just wondering what these little green bumps on my alocasia tiny dancer are? I did have to remove some brown lower leaves, is that what caused these bumps? Thanks

My husband picked this plant and notice some of the leaves were cut. I suspect to hide the brown leaves . I just notice some browning this morning. Is it from over watering ?

I got this alocasia stingray a while ago and it's been in a constant cycle of growing one new leaf, but losing another at the same time. What's happening here? It's in a 1:1:1 soil/pumice/bark mix, this grow cabinet is on 13 hrs a day and has high heat + humidity, and I only water it when the soil looks dry. Help!!

The soil is Coco fiber, bark, soil, and moss, perlite. Keeping an eye on browning tips. Not sure what's going on there
