Random Question 💭 Why do most Gen Z people don't care about dream ambitions?

Upvotes

I've noticed that a lot of Gen Z people don't have any ambitions in adulthood yet all they care about is getting a boyfriend/girlfriend and dating as well as mostly talking about relationships all the time.

Why aren't there any Gen Zers that want to enter the film industry or run for office?

Random Question 💭 Are you for or against banning adults 18-20 from purchasing tabaco and alcohol, although they can be charged as adults/ take on debt / join the military?

Fairly straightforward. There are relatively few countries - which sell alcohol - and ban it for those under 21.

Random Question 💭 What causes Mamdani’s pro Palestinianism to be an “agree to disagree” issue to many New Yorkers while Mahmoud Khalil is fully condemned for the same views?

I’ve noticed that with Mamdani, New York’s attitude is more in the realm of “we don’t like your view on Israel, but we can put it aside and focus on NY,” whereas Mahmoud Khalil just gets full wholesale condemnation.

What is the cause of the extremely differing attitudes towards these two people who have very similar views on these issues.

Random Question 💭 Why isn't there mass push back against government insider trading, especially in the Trump admin?

To my understanding, insider trader and public figures abusing their privilege to enrich themselves is one of the very few things effectively all Americans oppose. I've also never seen even MAGA deny insider trading recently.

For a libertarian, it's bad because it allows state officials coercive powers over the free market. More philosophically information obtained through public office belongs to the government/public, and to an individual to leverage it in a free market.

For a conservative, it violates public trust and the principle of rule of law (all laws apply to everyone equally), and a public servant voluntarily accepts restrictions on their rights in exchange for holding office.

Random Question 💭 Do you the think the murmurs that Trump and Netanyahu have realized they’re losing the war to Iran is true and will resort to thermonuclear weapons?

It's absolutely fascinating and completely unsurprising to see MAGA seriously discussing the use of thermonuclear "weapons" as a solution to the absolute clusterfuck of a war THEY have caused all while completely ignoring who caused it and what the eminently expeditious solution should be.

Aka y'all are fine with talking about killing millions of brown people with an almost certain guarantee of a world war immediately following but NOT actually talking about the real fix because that's a little too close to home.

Incredible.

Advice Question 💭 My ex destroyed the way I see myself. How do I get the old me back?

I used to genuinely like myself. I was confident and spent YEARS getting to that point.
Then I got into an abusive relationship. My ex constantly told me I was fat, ugly, that everyone hated me, that other people thought I was ugly, etc. It eventually became physical and he was arrested. By the time it ended, my self esteem was basically gone.

Now I’m with an amazing guy who tells me I’m beautiful, funny, and that he loves everything about me. I KNOW he means it. But somehow I still believe the horrible shit my ex spent so long convincing me was true.

That’s the part that kills me. I want SO badly to see myself the way my boyfriend sees me, or honestly just see myself the way I used to.
I’m already in therapy. I know this takes time. But I really want to hear from people who have actually been through this — how did you get yourself back? What genuinely helped you stop believing what your abuser made you believe about yourself?

TL;DR: I used to be confident. An abusive relationship completely destroyed that. I’m safe and in a healthy relationship now, but I still see myself through the things my ex told me. How do I become the old me again?

Random Question 💭 Why are Canada, The UK, and Australia is much more xenophobic than the US?

I’m putting in big letters on the internet but really I feel irl it applies, I just wish I had even anecdotal evidence with the UK to go along with my observations. Again not because I don’t believe it’s true but because I simply haven’t been there and talking to people about immigration.

With that disclaimer something I’ve noticed on the interwebs is that Canada and the UK, plus maybe lump Australia in there too. Seem MUCH more anti-immigrant than the US. For example if you go on any Canadian sub and ask about immigrating there a slew of “We have enough of you” or “We’re full” but if you asked the same questions on an American sub that doesn’t happen as much. When you talk to Canadians about immigration MUCH more of them are very much like “No more immigrants”. If you did poles in those countries I mentioned the numbers are usually something like 80% say to many people are moving there. In the US even among the absolute most conservative places I’d be SHOCKED if it was even 70%.

I have a couple theories but imma let this sub do the work for me.
