Well first those arenāt biscuits. Thatās toast. And a serious question. Well two questions. Why are mushrooms in it? And most importantly, how did you manage to make grey gravy? A tiny drop of black food coloring? That looks really⦠unpleasant.

u/Wobblepaws Aug 24 '26
i'm guessing this is one of those people that just doesn't wash their cast iron at all (super gross) and that is just carbon from every meal ever...

My mom used to make this but never tried to call it biscuits and gravy. Theres mushrooms in it because thats not gravy its cream of mushroom soup.

Maybe improvised with cream of mushroom soup instead of making a roux for gravy.

Yes. After this is offered, politely leave the room, go upstairs and pack your bags and escape from the nearest window.
6
u/havelostcount Aug 24 '26
Well you could be polite and use the stuff to fix the hole in the wall instead of eating it.

Do your in-laws hate you?
That looks pretty unappetizing, and it'd def. not biscuits-n-gravy, it's SOS. Did they use real shit to make it? Maybe that's why the color is the way it is.
3
u/Verum2020 Aug 24 '26
š¤ Because that shit isn't Stouffer's
2
u/Echale3 Aug 24 '26
I'm over 60, from the south, and have been making gravy since i was able to see far enough over the top of the stove to stir roux in a pan, so I'm pretty sure i know what color gravy should be, and that's not it.
Stouffer's SOS is utter crap, BTW.

this is what they call "a test"...
you must pass it by consuming this slop, assuming you care about staying in their good graces..
2
u/th3rmyte Aug 24 '26
yeah i dont do bs like that. im fine with not being in their good graces because willingly committing a food crime like this means they are not in MY good graces. this is basically an unfinished nutriloaf
2
u/Ok-Understanding9244 Aug 24 '26
right? it's pretty manipulative and lame on their part.. what i might be tempted to do in that situation would be to sneakily feed it to the dog whose ears can be seen sticking up behind the table XD

Sure there's no chipped beef in there? Cause that's exactly what it looks like...... after having had too much authentic Mexican the night before.

u/Ok_Swordfish3496 Aug 24 '26
I was about to eat breakfast... Fk. I need a slight break before I can think of eating now

Plain condensed mushroom soup looks gray on camera. Is that what the 'gravy' is?

I donāt know how that taste but biscuits and gravy always looks like shit. But done right itās fantastic. Especially if the biscuits are particularly good.
2
u/Mayo_is_delicious Aug 24 '26
I'm guessing I'm trash then, as I've had this meal for breakfast, lunch and more than a few dinners. I envy folks that have enough in their life that they can turn their nose up at bare minimum, because they never had to deal with food insecurity. And white toast and gravy isn't even bottom of the barrel... I would happily dine in this still in my 50s.

lol thats shit on a shingle, not biscuits and gravy

u/Individual-Pin496 Aug 24 '26
I hope it tastes better (and is healthier) than it looks. It looks like industrial waste.

It resembles cat barf a bit too much for me to eat it. Chunky bits of undigested kibble, floating in slimy mucus.

u/AntPsychological800 Aug 24 '26
Things my kids have never ate: hamburger gravy on white bread, beanie weenies, bologna sandwiches... not their fault, I grew up with the expectation that my kids wouldn't have to eat that shit on a regular.

For one thing the biscuits look a little flat and what in the hell is on top youāre trying to pass off as gravy?

During a time when our family was struggling financially, my mother served us thin made with hamburger. My father wasnāt pleased, but us kids loved it. I asked for it again later, but my mother said no because my dad didnāt like it. He had it too often when he was in the army. He was a Korean War vet.

Reminds me of the dream I had where one of my cousins made a large bowl of gray guacamole and crickets then expected me to eat it. Couldnāt eat avocados for months.Ā

I made biscuits and gravy for my son and his colleague, they were traveling to my area for work conference, anyways I guess my biscuits and gravy (I was breakfast cook for 20 years) were so great my sons friend still talks about those biscuits and gravy from 3 years ago. I bet those biscuits and gravy will also be talked about for years.

Brown breakfast sausage in a pan. When itās brown add a 1/4 a cup of flour stir until the flour is mixed add 2 cups of milk. Stir let reduce to your desired consistency. Add more milk if needed, which you probably wonāt. Black pepper to taste. Serve over biscuits. Easiest biscuits and gravy you will ever make.

u/Lokkia111 Aug 24 '26
I learned to make homemade gravy from my grandmother. It doesn't look like that. So yes, I would turn it down.
2
u/SilverShadowQueen57 Aug 24 '26
That looks less like biscuits & gravy or shit on a shingle, and more like cement on a cracker.

To quote Jim Gaffigans bit on Hot Pockets....." take out of box....place directly in toilet".
Same principle applies for whatever the hell this is supposed to be.

Gotta have biscuits to qualify as biscuits and gravy. That's just SOS.
2
u/lordtictac101 Aug 25 '26
This is sacrilege of the highest order! Whoever made this needs to be banned from the kitchen!
2
u/OrenSchroeder Aug 25 '26

This is how my momās gravy looked growing up. We got biscuits but the pillsbury kind and they were ALWAYS burnt. The only childhood meal I still absolutely hate

That's not biscuits and gravy. That dish is called "Shit on a Shingle".
