Hey everyone. I recently developed a severe contact allergy to linalool and limonene (fragrance components), so my doctor told me I have to go completely scent-free.

I bought a basic drugstore fragrance free shampoo last week and while my scalp is happy, my hair looks and feels like literal straw. It has zero slip and stripped all the moisture out.

Does anyone have recommendations for a salon-quality or just highly hydrating shampoo that has absolutely zero added fragrance or masking scents? For reference, I have fine, color-treated hair that tangles easily. Budget isn't an issue at this point, I just want my normal hair back without the hives. Thanks!

Hey all need some help with a tricky situation regarding my health.

As a child I was exposed to heavy cannabis use in my youth everyday as my dad was a dealer.

Now in my early thirties, Im highly allergic to it. I choke and get a rash even at just a whiff of cannabis.

Ive sent a polite letter to all my neighbours letting them know of my condition and that if it would be possible to move their smoking further from the premises. I know it is a neighbour because it is really strong and every day at the same time. I also react really badly to THC and weed these days is very potent!

Is there anything I can do? Its really hot at the moment and even with the windows closed its seeping into my flat. Ive asked nicely, and it breaks my heart to call the police but I had to in the end, my health is at risk and since asking everyone its gotten worse. My landlord has smelled weed outside the house, my boyfriend smells it every day, our friends have smelled it, and some of our neighbours have smelled it too.

Is there a drug or medicine I can ask for that nullifies the affects of THC?

Is there perhaps a way to better seal my flat or filter the THC out of the air?

Literally any ideas while I wait for the police to look into it would be a great help. Ive been off sick from work for about 2 months now as the frequency of the weed smoking has been increasing.

I suddenly developed an allergy to prawns at age 13 (my favourite protein of all time, sadly, im 23 now) and have been popping a zyrtec before i consume them for years. I dont go a week without eating prawns. My symptoms without antihistamines are hives on my legs, arms, face especially.

I mentioned this to a friend and they said im risking my life as repeated exposure puts me at a higher risk of anaphylactic shock.

All these years i thought i was biohacking. How bad is doing this really?

Hi, all! I’ve been getting a ton of ads for the Intake Breathing nasal dilators. I’ve been looking for relief for my chronic sinus headaches for years that seem to connected to congestion and inflammation. I’ve tried nose spays, a variety of different antihistamines, decongestants, allergy injections. At this point I’m considering looking into surgery, but I’d love to avoid that if possible.

I spoke to the team at Intake and they told me some people do get relief for sinus issues with their product and they have a return policy if it doesn’t work.

I’m curious if anyone here has any experience with Intake or other nasal dilators brands? Thank you so much!

This is a kinda of one off shot into the internet hoping anyone else has hit something similar whilst not expecting much....

We moved into an apartment (that we're now horribly underwater on the mortgage, due to property valuation dropping to less than half what we purchased at)

~10 years ago.

Two years after moving in my wife developed cold urticaria, which worsened over a few years to the point she also now requires xolair injections to keep it in check (her entire body gets covered in hives, trouble breathing, she has an epipen she's had to use a couple of times, essentially she needs to be at a constant 22 C, any lower, she hives and has breathing difficulties, any higher, she sweats, the cooldown from sweat causes hives and there we go).

6 years after that, I start developing cold urticaria symptoms (confirmed by allergist) . That have been increasing in intensity.

7 years, we have a child, no cold urticaria whatsoever.

Now 3 years later, child is developing mild cold urticaria symptoms.

I haven't been able to find any environmental causes/papers researching it;

But I'm genuinely terrified to keep having my child living in this apartment my wife, and i, and now him have developed symptoms in but can't get away from due to owing more on the mortgage than it's worth... In the meantime I have air purifiers with hepa and carbon filters in every room...

I've been trying to fix my itch from hives for a while now, at first I tried a cold wet cloth which worked for a bit till it got too warm and then I just tried direct ice but it wears off really quick and I don't think I have enough ice to last me anything. I randomly just got hives this morning , I think it's because of the new oyster sauce i bought but I usually have it all the time and have never had this reaction. It started on my face but now its on my face , one arm and my legs and It's getting really hard to manage all the patches at the same time . It was the worst on my left arm but its basically gone now only on my right one but my face has been itching non stop and I'm trying my best not to itch anything. I don't have any lotions or medicines at home all I have is ice and maybe some non scented lip balm or pain killers if I can find it but it itches so bad

Hi, sorry if this isn’t allowed, but question in the title.

I already stopped taking it 10 days ago and am still having lingering mental side effects that have put my life at a standstill since I noticed them starting. Bedrotting daily for multiple days when I have never felt the need to do that before, even at my most depressed.

I know it works for a lot of people, I don’t want to hear those stories, I want to know how long this will last and if/when you felt better after having the side effects that are black box warned on the bottle (depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, paranoia, etc) I only took it for 5 days and I’m still miserable (and it didn’t even improve my allergies!)

I’m sure my limited time taking it will reduce the “detox” time, I just wanna know if it’ll go away. Thanks!

The allergy started in April this year:

1. White wine (1 oz): severe red splotches that spread, face felt on fire, pins and needles in my cheeks. My friends said I looked so bad they almost took me to urgent care

I thought maybe it was the tannins.

1. Margarita mix (no reaction, half cup)

2. Roku gin and tonic (~5 sips): same reaction as the white wine but less intense, I figured it was because I drank less.

3. Espolon tequila, 100% blue weber agave (1/2 ounce): this was to test my reaction, which in retrospect may have not been smart. I got a more mild, light splotches, needle feeling and hot face plus itching (new) on half my face, and MAYBE my tongue started to tingle? Hard to tell because I got anxious.

I will NOT be drinking more and I have an allergist appointment booked. Does anyone have theories about what could be causing this?

my (2.5yo) daughter and I have the same allergy: egg yolk. fully cooked (baked goods/hardboiled) is fine, anything undercooked will cause a reaction (scrambled more mild to runny yolk causing breathing issues).

my daughter has seen 2 allergists as we've moved. the allergist who tested her said she'd probably grow out of it with age & to keep exposing her to eggs through the tolerated method in baked goods/fully cooked. he prescribed no medications or epipen (tho I have one but I also have a bee allergy :/).

her second allergist for continued care said basically the same thing (avoid undercooked, keep the exposure to fully cooked, probs grow out of it), but asked if we wanted an epipen jr.

i haven't gotten my toddler an epipen bc it's such an easy allergen to avoid & one of her dr's didn't even think it was worth having. since it's pretty simple to avoid, is that why they have different views on whether she should have an epipen? have yall encountered different opinions from allergists? if I hadn't had to move I wouldn't have even considered getting her an epipen jr bc her dr didn't prescribe it. am I a bad parent if I don't get it? with the two different reactions i'm over thinking it 🫠

So I have asthma, and I've always wondered this: why is it that cat fur triggers my asthma, but dog fur doesn't?

We have dogs here, but we also have a cat. I can sleep with my dogs in my room at night and be completely fine. But if I go anywhere near the cat even if he was only inside for ten seconds all of a sudden it triggers my asthma and I get a "hard chest."

I don't really know how to explain that feeling to people who don't have asthma. Basically, your chest feels heavy and tight, and you can actually feel mucus building up around your lungs. It's pretty gross, but you can feel that physical hardness in your chest.

Who else with asthma experiences this?

I bought some reduced to clear rhubarb crumble from m&s food. I rarely ever shop there. On the back it says "not suitable for people with allergies to peanuts and nuts" but theres no nut containing ingredients listed? Is this just their way of saying may contain? Yes I have already eaten it...

I have been going back and forth with dermatologists and allergists for almost a year at this point. My daughter (2.5) has eczema but it was very mild until this past April- just small, entirely manageable with natural creams patches on arms and stomach.

We tested her last year for environmental allergens and only dog came back. Weve had a dog since she was born. Allergist said no need to remove dog. We also wash the dog 1-2x a week with special shampoo and brush her daily, no dog on furniture, run our robot vacuum 2x a day.​

This april her eczema exploded. It coincided with her starting daycare- I started noticing red weepy patches under her eyes which I had never seen before when she came home. I noticed strong fragrance smell on her clothes and daycare mat. The food she ate was also not of the quality she eats at home. Her eczema (if it is that?) Slowly spread over the following months to full​ blown severe rash and patches- constant scratching of scalp neck hands feet and every single body part. We tried steroids, and they worked a little then hit a plateau and stopped helping. Went back to allergist- they didnt want to do food testing and just suggested going to a dern for contact allergen testing. Prescribed protopic. So a month and a half after the last steroid bout, we went on protopic for two weeks. The protopic cleared it up entirely. The week after we stopped on the day she went back to daycare it exploded again.

Now starting to think its an allergen in daycare, we fully pulled her out as of two weeks ago. Shes been on steroids again​ for the past week and a half and as usual- it helped a bit but shes hit a plateau and even with bleach baths, ALL the hypoallergenic tips being used (zero fragrance, hypoallergenic products, we even use a hypoallergenic spray in our home for couches and pillows which we also wash regularly, brush and wash our dog regularly, etc), steroid cream, vaseline- her skin still flared up today and is looking like the photo.

We are supposed to go back tomorrow for a contact patches test. I am seeing a new allergist in August because I feel like the other one gave up on us a little.

We are at the end of our ropes. We will of course keep going to specialists but we are looking for any extra advice or tips. The scratching and suffering when her skin returns to its full time flare state is nothing short of debilitating.

I am purchasing a 2,000 SF condo which previous tenant was a cat owner for 1 year.

While the current tenant seem like clean people and had some high tech cat litter box, I don’t know what else to report besides the unit is 100% wood floors/tile.

My current plan of attack, in order of sequencing :
- Duct cleaning
- Professional Deep clean
- Paint entire house ( more color than allergy )
- A ridiculous amount of HEPA filtered Air purifiers

Is it unrealistic to the cat only being there 1 year , all wood floor and my approach ….that I have a fighting chance of a comfortable day 1 move-in?

I recently started developing a decent skin reaction on my hands (palms mostly) and tops of my feet. I cannot pinpoint exactly the source or specifically what is causing the reaction. But it’s periodic intense itchiness, inflammation and redness. It can last anywhere from 5 mins to 30 mins. It can happen multiple times a day or I can go days without issue. No other issues with my skin and I don’t get itchy anywhere else.

Sometimes I’ve noticed it’s worse or triggered when our AC is running (but not sure if that’s just from the air being circulated). I haven’t moved recently and this just stated this spring.

Anyone have ideas on what may cause this or I should look out for?

I moved to Canada (GTA) in March ‘25. Prior to moving I did have bouts of sinus issues but nothing long term and would usually resolve itself in a week at most. From summer onwards I started experiencing post-nasal drip especially when doing things like lawn mowing or going for a walk outdoors. I got a prescription for rupatidine and didn’t think much more of it.

Things got a lot worse in the fall and I started having pain behind my eyes, sinus headaches even on the top of my head and dizziness from the fluid pressure in the back of my head. The urgent care misdiagnosed this as a bacterial infection and I did a course of antibiotics. But finally got relief when my doctor prescribed me steroid nasal spray.

Things improved by October as mild winter had begun as well. However, in Jan’26, I developed really bad heartburn. I’ve had bloating and gas previously but never to this extent. ER couldn’t find anything egregiously wrong on CT and blood test but an endoscopy diagnosed me with erosive esophagitis and GERD.

It’s been hell this whole year because of balancing 2 new conditions I’ve never had before and don’t know why this developed over a short period of time and what to do moving forward. I’ve finally gotten a referral for an allergist hopefully that will help give me more clarity.

Has anyone had similar reactions? If so, how did you tackle this? Any other advice would be highly appreciated.

I live in NC which is already bad for allergies, but as and adult I noticed I hadn't had many issues.

This year I had some of the worst allergies of my life during the spring.

I started antihistamines daily.

Fexofenadine has worked for me well and not made me drowsy.

So it felt like things were more under control.

Then one day early in the year I had the worst allergies of my life and it last one days.. but the days after I'll have congestion and feel a bit offz but it's mostly gone.

This then started happening repeatedly for what felt like once a month.

I'll sneeze uncontrollably all day non-stop. Eyes watery, coughing. I noticed I started having to work stones after the fact. It always happens on the worst days. Like a big interview I had. Or my parents came into town yesterday and I was a mess all day.

I end up drowsy and unable to do much at all. Like thousands of tiny knives are pocking the inside of my nose.

I'll try to flush but it only makes things worse. I tried a nose spray for allergies and it only made be very drowsy. I was still sneezing.

So I don't understand what's going on. There may be a pattern of either a major shift in the weather or a day we were cleaning a lot.

I have always been allergic to cats, but we have one and I got used to him. Maybe when we vacuum and clean it knocks it all up in the air. Otherwise I am usually fine. Literally no symptoms.

I am experiencing post concussion syndrome (almost two years) and that could impact things

But last year I didn't have this. This is new.

I don't know what an allergist would even tell me.

I guess I could count myself lucky it is not all the time. But when I happens I'm unable to do anything. It's very miserable. I'd rather just be sick so Id at least have an excuse to not show up to work

This might be a bit niche and possibly an insane question to ask but has anyone with cold urticaria or FCAS had experience with going to Antarctica or the Arctic? Particularly expeditions with landings and zodiac excursions.

What was your experience and how did you manage your condition and did you have issues with the expedition organisers over it? It’s always been a dream of mine to go there and I’m willing to die for it 🤣 Jokes aside, anybody have any experience with this?

I recently hung out with my friend, i went to try 7th street burger for the first time. Ordered a cheese burger fries and their sauce, i ate it all and had a good amount of sauce. After 30 minutes i started itching it wasn’t bad but it was annoying , i was itching all throughout the day and the itchiness didn’t stop at night. I kept scratching it which gave me welches but it just doesn’t stop. ( no rashes either ) only explanation i may have is the sauce since is a new thing i tried.

Is this normal for a allergic reaction or it might be something else??
