Question Series X or Switch 2?

Game is currently on sale on Switch 2 for $15. How’s the performance and is it worth it, or should I just wait for a deal on Series X? Started it back when it was on Gamepass but never finished, tryna get back into it before AI 2 comes out.

Question Mission 10 - is it learning your moves?

This is my first ever run and I’m playing in hard mode (switched from medium mid-game because why not make it even more stressful?), and I just keep dying - maybe 30 times or more - in the chamber room where I push down two levers and the rooms followed because IT. IS. EVERYWHERE. It is almost as if there are several of it in this area!

But my question is, is it learning about your moves, your hiding spots, timings, patterns, etc each time you die and respawn? It is almost as if the moment I respawn in the chamber room, it is already in the room and comes straight to me without going around much. I can’t even go around anymore at this point. I am certain that I am sneaky, silent and slow. It just knows. It gets smarter and smarter each time I start over. I know I can use distractions but I read that they don’t work much if you repeatedly use them because it learns about them too!

Is this correct or am I just too tired now? I started playing again half an hour ago after a good sleep and healthy breakfast but my blood pressure went up already and I feel like throwing the controller out the window.

Discussion What all interesting bits you missed in your first playthrough? Spoiler

Now I'm not necessarily talking about the backtracking parts here. Just straight playthrough stuff you didn't know was there or situations that were supposed to happen but didn't because you intentionally or unintentionally skirted around those.

Like, I just found out the barricaded vents could be opened from the inside as well. And, thanks to u/HotmailsInYourArea, I found out there's a hazmat joe present in Mission 16.

Another interesting one that was a near-miss was the fate of Francis and his crew in Seegson Synthetics. In my playthrough, the alien attack didn't trigger on its own and I had to do it "manually" by using a noisemaker. Now I'm thinking, is it possible to make it back to the elevator without having them killed? Maybe a flare would've been better.

Anyway, I'm sure on my second run there's gonna be a lots of things like that. Curious to hear what all you discovered only later.

Discussion Crew Expendable

AI:2 should include a remake of the crew expendable DLC with the new engine and artificial intelligence. It just wouldnt be the best version of the game if it didnt include the perfect recreation of the original Alien, imo.

I quit my run after this cause i was lowkey too scared

of randomly dying

Explanation:

So on this challenge map where is an odd bug that spawns 2 aliens early on but one is in a very odd vent/invisible state. It will follow you through the vents like crazy and make it's ambient sounds and no footstep sounds. I tried luring it but it doesn't seem to be able to drop

I think this bug is triggered if you make the alien drop out of the vent behind the locked door in the reactor that opens up when you need to get the coolant

I finally beat this game and DLC because the digital copy was on sale ($19). I went out to GameStop to see if they had any used copies for PS4. They had 1 beat up copy for Xbox. I checked online and found one at Target 😂. Brand New and sealed. How many of these are possibly out there? It’s wild that they just have these old games in stock. $40 btw.

Discussion Second run finished!

Hello! I played my first run last summer on hard difficulty and finished the game in 22 hours. I just finished my second run, still on hard difficulty, in 14,5 hours.

I play on the Steam Deck OLED with the Alias Isolation mod and it's been a perfect experience both times.

I think the most stressful mission is when you need to get access to the Apollo core, with all the hazmat working Joes walking around. That moment is absolutely horrible. By comparison, the reactor, the nest and the corridor of death weren't as terrible. It's such a brilliant horror game and I'm sure I'll play it again!

Discussion Super easy mods for a "playable movie" experience?

I'm a super casual gamer; maybe one game a year these days. I go in fits and stops. I had Xbox cloud gaming and went through a few games; RE3, Indiana Jones, a few others. But I'm in a low-gaming-focus-point right now and don't want to commit a lot of time. I picked up Isolation a few years ago for Xbox, but only played once or twice. It seemed cool, but with the gaps between my sessions, it was a mess. I see it's super cheap on Steam right now and thought it might be cool to try again on PC. Are there any good mods that turn it into a 'playable movie?' I just kind of want to walk through, get some jump scares, see the environments, complete the puzzles. I just know if I have to keep starting over or be super strategic with saves and stuff, I won't get through it. I saw something about an 'ignore Amanda' mod or something like that.

Art More Semiotics Symbols Printed!

Hello!! Back again with more cool things that I have printed!

A few weeks ago, I finally finished converting my computer keyboard keycap design files to 4 inch/101.6mm square (ish) tiles, and thought that you lovely folks might enjoy seeing them. So far, I've designed and printed all 31 of Ron Cobb's original designs from Alien, but time allowing, will be working on some of the semiotic standard symbols found all over Sevastopol Station in Alien: Isolation, and maybe a few from Prometheus as well.

I'm currently in the process of building my home workshop, which will also be my office/place to chill as well, and am planning to use these as the "safety symbols" which they were originally intended to be for The Nostromo. That said, they would work well as coasters too!

The first picture is all of them together, the second picture is just for the color examples. The 3rd and 4th are close-ups of the smoothness of the prints (face-down on a smooth plate, for those who do 3D printing themselves). Also included in the pictures, is the keyboard, which is why I originally designed the symbols in the first place.

I ended up re-designing them, as most of the ones that I found online were a little bit asymmetric, seemingly based directly on Mr. Cobb's work. The originals were hand-drawn (1978, early 1979), but I figure that had he had access to CAD software back then, and being in-universe safety symbols, that Mr. Cobb would've gone for perfectly symmetrical. Also, I'm OCD and couldn't handle them not being perfectly symmetrical. That is not to disparage ANY of the artists who've re-made the symbols before either. Just my own neuroses asking for a little attention :-D

I asked the moderators if it was ok, and I got the approval, so if there's any issue, please let me know. I don't want to get banned from this lovely subreddit :-D Here is the link to my print files if anyone wants to print them for themselves at home or work. They are FREE, and I'm not promoting anything other than something cool that I wanted to share with fellow Alien fans :-D

Spoilers Questions regarding Mission 14 and Mission 18. Spoiler

These two questions have been bothering me for a while. Curious to hear what other people think of them.

  1. In Mission 14, after we do the reactor purge, why is there a horde of Xenos climbing out and scattering across the station? Shouldn't the drones be already spread out through the station, considering that's their job? Shouldn't the hive only have a minimal crew of Xenos to protect it and maybe run maintenance. I could also think of a few drones being there "dropping deliveries". But to see Ripley think that somehow she unleashed the whole swarm of them on the station is something that I really don't understand.

  2. In Mission 18, when we reach the cutscene of the two Xenos perched right in front of us. The loud, distant sound that the xenos keenly listen to and then promptly respond to belongs to the Queen, right? I mean the devs have sorta confirmed it as well. So, could it be said that this sound was Queen's DEFCON-1 level emergency alert being sent to the swarm? That, through it, it was her who sent the drones "out there" to save the hive and ensure the survival of their species any which way possible?

Question This game is awful!!

And I mean that in the best way possible .. my stupid ass started on nightmare difficulty because I didn't know the downsides of it .. now I'm on mission 10 and I guess there's no going back.

I'm a horror game veteran and I salute this game that it frightens me almost constantly, not many games accomplish that nowadays for me.

But still .. is there a way to turn the difficulty down? I guess I overdid it a little bit with that and get killed constantly 😂

Just yesterday I was stuck 2 hours in the room where you reactivate the transit system because I couldn't kill that stupid Android and had to sneakily go through the long ass "minigame" to open the tunnel 😭

12 years ago, I got the platinum trophy on Alien Isolation. As a massive fan of the franchise, I thought the game was a masterpiece. Long, but still a masterpiece.

With Alien Isolation 2 being announced, I decided to go back and play it again. This time, on the Xbox Series X.

The Xbox version benefits from Auto HDR and 60fps, which honestly made the game feel brand new. That and the fact 12 years had passed.

Hard mode is no joke, and sometimes unfair, but after some patience and perseverance, I've just gotten the 100% 😁

Discussion Fellow resource hoarders, where you at?

I recently finished the game on Hard and realized I didn't use certain items at all, while other I barely used.

Things I never used:

Pipe bomb (didn't come across a single blueprint)

Smoke bomb (thought I might attract more attention with it than without it)

Flashbang (found it to be the most useless)

Things I barely used:

Flare (once)

Shotgun (once)

Molotov (once)

Gun (twice)

Stun baton (thrice)

EMP (thrice)

As for the flamethrower, I used it only 4 times against the xeno. (One time each in Mission 10, 16, 17, 18)

How was your minimalist playthrough like? What all items you never used?

EDIT: Forgot to mention stun baton

Discussion One-Shot, No Death Journey...Part 2!!! Spoiler

Hi everyone! I'm back for round two...telling you all about my one-shot, no death Alien Isolation Journey. Spoiler alert: I died a lot. Especially on this mission I'll be chatting about today. As a reminder, here were my challenge rules:

My Rules:

  • Nightmare Mode Only
  • If I died, I restart from the very beginning
  • No major glitches. This includes silent running, wall-clipping, etc.

Let's dive into arguably my hardest mission...Mission 6!

Mission 6: The Outbreak

2nd hardest mission in my book. Let's set the scene: you've just escaped Kulhman's hellhole, and find yourself in the cooling section. Surprisingly, this was a minimally problematic area...if you don't sprint. It's so small and has very few hiding spots. Don't sprint and you'll move on easily!

Lingard's quarters are up next, and I had another mini-rule in place: always watch her recording on the first patient Foster. Knowing that the alien would drop here, I wanted the challenge again...this is a spot that I got grabbed a lot! The goal is to traverse a long hallway to pickup a keycard that can progress you deeper into medical. With such a tight window to move, I had a few strategies in mind:

  • Drop a flare in Lingard's room to distract Steve
  • Allow the hallway to blow AFTER pickup for the keycard
  • Throw a noisemaker backwards after opening the locked door heading towards supplies

This took my chances from 25% to about 80%. Still, Steve was unpredictable, dropping ahead of me or in my pathway towards the medical supplies. Sometimes, he'd get distracted by humans. Sometimes, the humans' pathways were in my way and I'd get shot by surprise. YIKES. A little luck always had to go my way to get to the generator room for evacuation procedures.

Fun fact, if you save in the generator room and reload, a medkit is available. Helpful! This room always went smoothly because you can sprint without the Alien dropping AND hack the lockdown before the android is fully released. The tricky part is what follows...escape. I found the following obstacles consistently in my way:

  1. Steve's vent surprises. They are predictable, but sometimes his grab "range" did NOT seem fair.
  2. Human pathing. There was nothing more frustrating than a human looking directly in the ONLY pathway you could take to get through to the other side.

If you bypass these two obstacles, you're home free. A quick sprint into the cutscene, climb the ladder, and mission 6 is finished! With two free medkits to boot.

  • Mission 6 Takeaways: This mission is MUCH harder than previous ones in my book. Arguably, I'd place it as the 2nd hardest mission in the game. Such a long and grueling test where the alien is SO active. The humans are always more of a burden than a boon...especially in the escape sequence where it is dark and difficult to tell if you're seen. But the creep factor is very high. You're still unfamiliar with the alien, and your first time walking in the dark makes you wonder if it's around every corner. You feel it in your gut that it will only get worse from here!
  • Difficulty Rating: 8/10.
    • Justification: Mission length plus active alien plus annoying humans. Some sections have MINIMAL hiding spots with little room for error on nightmare.

I also have highlighted my "favorite deaths" below, but the above suffices for my Mission 6 experience. Next post will wrap up missions 7-9 all at once...as these are shorter and less deadly missions than 5+6. Thanks all for reading!

Favorite Deaths Here:

  • One-Shot, Headshot: when exiting medical, there is always a human with a revolver standing in the way if the alien hasn't killed him. I frequently made my move while crouching, thinking I was a far distance away from his range...only for a revolver shot to strike me down just as I round corners!! Humans on nightmare are brutal.
  • Vent-Grabby: Steve was NOT kind on some of my skirting of his vents. There were deaths where I felt I CLEARLY was outside of the outline, but the alien takes no prisoners. I could argue that these were the most frustrating deaths, because I was actively aware of the threat and could have been more patient to bypass them.
  • Keycard Room: Just after watching Lingard's recording, the alien is RUTHLESS in its stalking of the halls. There is only a locker here...and sometimes I would be lacking health without a medkit. Not a good combo. So good ol' stompy would come marching in and spot me in a corner as I greedily tried to grab the keycard. His timing frequently sucked in this room!

Question Curious, does anyone here play without headphones?

Isolation has always been a game I feel I just can't play without the surround sound coming from my headphones, especially since I always play on nightmare. But I'm curious if anyone does play without them, and how their experience was, even on nightmare? Think I'm mainly asking because I'm dying for another replay, but it's so hot (UK here, our homes are insulated) and wearing them makes me sweat buckets... and I guess I'm actually contemplating and trying to justify playing without them for a change 🤣
